  1. You're up early working hard this morning. It's an exciting day for sure. Jasper sure could add to that with a HUGE upset tonight. It's gonna be fun to listen to the webcast on KJAS and follow the boards tonight as well. Go Dawgs...

  3. Ben Bronson was amazing when he was in Jasper and was probably the best athlete to come out of there in the early 90's, but Zack had more success than any Jasper athlete ever has in professional sports. John and Terence Davis both played in the NFL also and were from Ben's '91 class. Watch out for Sean Weatherspoon. He's one of the best LB's in the country at Missouri and should go in the middle of the first round in the draft next year. It would be cool to see him with Red Bryant here in Seattle, but the Seahawks are stacked at linebacker.
  4. I like what they're doing. It looks like they're working hard and getting through to the kids in a very positive way so that they'll learn and hopefully execute.
  5. I also remember giving up 49 points against Gilmer and not being able to stop LH. I like the idea of building our team around defense. Agree completely. Jasper has always been a better all-around team when we could stop our opponents. There's not a more helpless feeling than watching a defense that can't stop anybody. You can't win consistently over the long term if you can't keep points off the board. Go into Jasper's historical records from 1977 through 1996. Coach Walkoviak's teams always played good defense and he won close to 80% of his games there. Maybe I'm living in the past here, but he proved over the long haul that that kind of football works in Jasper. Look at Newton and WOS. They have won that way consistently for 30 years.
  6. Dude...shut up. You're making us Jasper fans look bad. We have enough issues with our own team without talking smack to everybody else.
  7. It's still dust in Jasper. We haven't graduated to rubber pellets yet.
  8. It's probably THE toughest. Bickham has his work cut out for him...that's for sure. It's very possible that Jasper will be sitting at 2-3 or worse going into district play. By the end of the season, the Dawgs should be a very good football team.
  9. I like the aggressive scheduling. If they can find a way to get through the first half of the schedule at 3-2, the Dawgs will be in great shape going into district. Carthage is the favorite going in, but Jasper could very well be right there with them if everything comes together.
  10. That's my logic in calling for a close game. Jasper's got pretty solid backs, so the key will be the QB Alvis making the right decisions with the ball and the line blocking well.
  11. I saw an article that mentioned that we were going to the triple option. It's the same thing that Georgia Tech went to last year that gave the ACC fits.
  12. Most schools run the same offense at every level. From what I've read, we're not running the spread anymore. Hopefully that means less turnovers and longer drives.
  13. Hmm...expectations were high for Jasper going into the Gilmer game last year after the Dawgs looked great in their scrimmages. Gilmer doubled us up 56-28 because the defense couldn't get off the field. This year, the game looks intriguing because we're going away from the spread and back to old-school option football and the re-emphasis on defense. It's hard to say how long it will take for the offense to be effective, but when it is the defense should be fresher and a lot more effective just because moving the chains on offense eats a lot of clock and shortens the game. That was our bread and butter for a long time... Will it work against Gilmer? It's probably too big of a test too soon, but it should be a much better game. I'll say Gilmer wins a close one...21-14.
  14. It probably won't be Alvis at Jasper. The Dawgs are running this year...
  15. How many kids are on varsity that are capable of starting? It all depends on depth....
  16. Defense used to win the Bulldogs a lot of football games. It'd be good to see that side of the ball dominate games like it used to.
  17. Someone posted that the '04 Jasper team was its best ever. I think there are a few teams from the old days ('80, '82, '83, '86) that were a lot better defensively and more physical in general. Those teams all lost out to very strong 4A teams either in the playoffs or to get there ('80 Hebert won the district in a tiebreaker when only the champ qualified, but Jasper was 8-0-2). The '04 team deserves a lot of credit for getting farther than those teams, but to say that it was the best is questionable.
  18. It was on this morning between 12 and 3am and I turned it on about 15 minutes before the 76ers took Tommy Sewell. They had some really good footage from the old Civic Center (home games vs. La. Tech and McNeese) and #44 was shooting the lights out like he always did. I completely forgot that he went in the first round that year, but he was immediately traded to the Bullets. The downside is that USA Network was coming out of a commercial when he was picked and either they or NBA TV inexplicably went mute, so I didn't hear a thing about him from the commentators (Al Albert and Louie Carnesecca). Seeing that still put a huge grin on my face. Tommy was my favorite Cardinal from those days... ;D
  19. I remember them well. They didn't last long and had some really good talent on that team (Benito Santiago, Jimmy Jones, etc).
  20. I believe you and in my opinion, the best baseball in the minor leagues is probably played at the AA level. Those rosters are mostly filled with an organization's best young prospects and AAA has a bunch of players that can play, but aren't true prospects that will play regularly at the MLB level.
  21. He will be missed. As much as I've always hated Philadelphia's fan base (Eagles mostly), I can't imagine how they must feel right now. RIP, Harry...
  22. Not trying to be mean but coach Qucik needs to replaced. They'll get it figured out. The more I hear about Bickham, the better I feel about things. He'll do fine...
  23. He wasn't fired. He resigned from Carthage on December 12, 2006 per the link below, which is after that football season ended. It may have been forced (doesn't say in the small portion that mentions him), but please do your homework before you post a question inferring something that isn't true. He finished 7-3 that year and 14-8 in his two seasons there. [Hidden Content]
  24. How has it been screwed up? ??? I don't think it has been screwed up at all. They're just taking their time to make sure they get the right guy.
