1. Most have already deemed the Gilmer vs Jasper rematch in the Bi-District round of the the 3A Division 1 Playoffs, but there is one setback to this... Tyler Chapel Hill beat Bullard 62-0 tonight in their District 17-3A contest. Other scores in 17-3A tonight are Gilmer 62 - Gladewater 12 and Tatum 56 - Longview Spring Hill 23. This gives Gladewater a 2-2 record, Tyler Chapel Hill a 1-3 record, and Longview Spring Hill a 1-3 record. Because of tiebreaker rules if Tyler Chapel Hill wins at home against Gladewater by at least 6 points, Tyler Chapel Hill would go to the playoffs as the 3rd place team, with a record of 2-3, as the Division 1 representative (because of enrollment), sending Gilmer to Division 2, and face Jasper in the first round of the playoffs... I think this should make Jasper one of the favorites in Division 1... Any thoughts?!?
2. I agree! Mijares has been solid for the Dogs and gives the team the 3rd dimension of a championship team... Offense, Defense, Special Teams...
3. X-Factor: Game will be played in Jasper Carthage 21 Jasper 27 This game will decide the 18-3A District Championship! Go Dogs!!!
4. Michael Webb #6 DB Jasper Bulldogs 7 Tackles, 2 INT's, 45yd INT return for TD
5. This would setup a Jasper vs Gilmer rematch in the Bi-District round if Chapel Hill doesnt make the playoffs.
6. I agree that this has been a successful year so far... the Dogs have won 2 of 3 games, all games against top 5 State ranked opponents, including the #1, #2, & #3 ranked teams in 3A and the #4 ranked team in 2A on their schedule. Most coaches and AD's should run from this kind of schedule. The Jasper Bulldogs are one half away from being the #1 ranked team in 3A if not for the letdown against Gilmer. And they are a COMPLETE team offensively, defensively, and in special teams. But the key to this team going deep into the playoffs is taking one game at a time. The worst thing this group can do is become overconfident and overlook teams in their district like Diboll, Rusk, and Center. They will get their true test against their district foe and defending State Champion Carthage on October 23 in Jasper. If they can stay focused, healthy, and eligible (academics are most important), we will know for sure if these Dogs will go DEEP into the playoffs. Lets take care of Hamshire-Fannett first... GO DOGS!!!
7. I dont know alot about Hamshire-Fannett... How will they fare against the Bulldogs???
8. Absolutely!!!! They should both be State ranked by then... Cant wait!!!
9. WO-S will most definitely make it out of their district...
10. Jasper 23 - #3 WO-S 13 First I'd like to start differently by tipping my hat to the West Orange-Stark Mustangs for a great game. Those guys are very talented and will be extremely tough come playoff time. The Jasper Bulldogs, to those who have watched both games versus Gilmer and Kirbyville, did not do anything surprising tonight. This win was expected because of solid defensive play and a great offensive scheme. Jasper showed a lot of heart tonight in their home opener and they began the game with a lot of emotion, but unlike the Gilmer game, there was no letdown in the second half. This is a talented group of young men with a Guru for a coach whose passion for the game is reflected by his players. This was a great win and should get the State's attention. And to the doubters... THE DOGS ARE FOR REAL THIS YEAR!!! Celebrate tonight. Lets gets focused on Hamshire-Fannett next week. One game at a time.... ALL THE WAY DOGS!!!
11. Well blackflag... as much as I would love to say the Dogs, I was actually thinking WO-S. There linebacking group is by far the best in the area... if not the state... 4A - Central 3A - WOS But after Jasper beats WO-S in Week 3, they will take the top defensive spot...
12. Well blackflag... as much as I would love to say the Dogs, I was actually thinking WO-S. There linebacking group is by far the best in the area... if not the state...
13. Jasper Bulldogs Offense - C+ - They have to eliminate the fumbles and minimize the costly penalties. The offense is improving and showing some versatility. Great Job Coach Bickham! Defense - B- - The new defensive scheme has confused everyone so far this year (including Gilmer). Defense kept us in the game versus Gilmer in the first half, but ran of of gas the second. Defense played a big part of the Kirbyville win including McGill's 3 INT's. Still lots of room for improvement. Special Teams - C - One of the bright spots of the special teams is the kicker #98 Juan Mijarez. Jasper hasn't had a true kicker since the '01 season and it has given the team that other dimension that it most desperately needed. He play a big part of the field position game and he solidified the win against Kirbyville with a 32yd field goal. Special teams personnel doesn't seem to be on the same page at times. Tighten up Dogs! Overall - C+ - The Jasper Bulldogs will get better each week as stated by first year coach Mike Bickham. He has the Dogs on a path success and will truly be a team to watch as the season progress. Go Dogs!!!
14. Who has the best DEFENSE in Southeast Texas so far this year?
