I hear they might send in a complaint against the UIL for taunting...
Bd92, Why do you keep dissin on us man?
LOL...to be really honest, I didn't know anyone would really be offended and I'll stop. I know you guys have it tough over there and hope that the Red Devils (and Diboll) can improve because every team needs to be competitive in such a small district.
It's gotta be tough to be a Lumberton fan these days and you deserve credit for not wearing the proverbial paper bag over your head. This was normal for the Raiders when I was a kid in Jasper and it was nice to see you guys have some success in recent years. I hope things get better soon...
 4.
WO-S and Newton:  The 2 most consistant programs in SE Texas........
I don't think anyone would disagree with that. There's not even a close third that I can think of over the past 30 years or so that WOS has been around. Frankly, the biggest underachiever over that same time period is Jasper. There might not be a close second and it kills me to say that...

Jasper 32 Carthge 17
I doubt when the game is over there will be a number as small as 17 beside Carthage's name on their "small" scoreboard.  They are too good on offense.  Just check the last 5 years results.
We're not talking about the last 5 years, I thought we were talking about Friday Night. ::)
I kinda think this is gonna be a low-scoring game. Jasper is as good as any defense Carthage has seen, if not the best. I'll take Jasper by a milkbone, 14-13. It's gonna be a good one...

It's kind of sacriligious for a Jasper fan to heap praise on you guys, but it's hard not to have a lot of respect for the success that WO-S has had. We've had it in stretches and have dominated a lot of series with a lot of schools, but there are two that stand out as teams that have been really good against us: you guys and Hebert. The Mustangs are a huge part of what makes SETX football what it is and I'm hoping Jasper can continue to build and make our rivalry even more intense. See you guys in the playoffs...
I can tell you as a longtime Mustang fan, we view Jasper as our #1 rival.  It's been that way since we started playing in '86.
I'm sure some Jasper fans older than I am would put Silsbee as the #1 for us because we've been playing them since God created the 5th day, but I was in middle school in '86 and I agree with you 100%. Things were at a fever pitch from the first night we went down there and from Walkoviak and Hooks all the way down to the youngest fans. This is the strongest rivalry of all my life as a sports fan and there really isn't a close #2.

 8.
Hate the 4 teams advancing particularly in districts that have 6 teams or less. Heck, if this starts next season, then 4 of the 5 teams in 20-3A (Carthage, Center, Diboll, Huntington and Jasper) will advance to playoffs. That's ridiculous!! Also saw where they will be voting on limiting basketball and baseball to 2 tourneys (not 3) and 21 total games played before playoffs. Do not like that and not sure coaches will like that as well.
Poor Huntington. They still can't catch a break...
 9. Jasper is built on speed throughout their system and traditionally has a really strong 8-9 win freshman team that beats who they should beat . I would expect no different and Tatum will have its hands full.
 10. 68-0 final. I know there's talk of playing Cohen again next year, but that was as bad a mismatch as I can remember. Barbay needs to be on the horn to Silsbee and that game has got to come back.
 11.

Jasper showed no class on this site all week so take your lumps and eat your crow. Wos killed there on drives with penalties. Jasper fought all the way through. That's the best I can say about them. When a team show some class and respect before the game, they will get it back.
True, some Jasper fans may have been overly exuberant, but certainly no more so than some WO-S fans.  And not all the "pro Jasper" posts were from folks with any apparent connection whatsoever to Jasper; just as was probably to case for WO-S.  Jasper fans who were not there were just asking honest questions to gauge how to interpret the implications for their future games.  And Jasper did not have drives killed by penalties?  Peddle that story somewhere else. I am hereby eating my crow for picking Jasper to win by one I think it was.  Now, let's see if all those posters that said WO-S was going to blow Jasper out of the stadium come by for theirs.
Funny. I just posted basically the same thing on the game thread. I don't think we would have been that bitter if we would have won. It's pointless.

I don't know what game you guys were watching, but it was obvious by how silent you all were on that side. You knew you couldn't penetrate this defense. Yes you were out classed. Your guys body language told that they felt it too.
This has nothing to do with "class".  WO-S outplayed Jasper, but their fans for the most part have not showed a lack of class.
I don't mean class as in being disrespectful. I mean Wos proved that they had far more talent. Usually I don't talk trash to fans, but they had diarrhea of the mouth all week and we had to hear it.
That happens on both sides of every rivalry because some fans would rather talk trash than talk football. It's really not worth bringing up because the trash talk is just that. Trash. Let the scoreboard and pride in your school stand out, not bitterness toward so-called "fans" from Jasper or anywhere else that just talk to hear their own voices. A vast majority of Bulldog fans respect you guys and I know for a fact that it works both ways. Celebrate. Enjoy your victory. We'll see you in the playoffs with both teams at full strength. Can't wait...
 13.

If he gave him Jasper and 10 then the WOS kid lost. We would have had to win by 11.
I hope he bet the $200 then.  ;)  Just kidding. I thought the wild predictions on both sides were kind of unrealistic knowing the history of how these two teams play.  The thing that surprised me was Jasper's scoring late, rather than early.  I read where Coach Thompson was counting on Jasper being tired toward the end of the fourth quarter and WO-S winning the game then.  Of course it did not play out that way.  Did WO-S put in reserves at the end; or could it have been WO-S getting worn down?  It seemed to me that Jasper got most of its yards in the second half.  I guess that Jasper had gotten better used to WO-S speed and made some adjustments?
Jasper's defensive coaching staff has been outstanding at halftime all season long. They don't give up much after that...
 14.
Thanks for the work out wo-s we needed that to get us ready for district  good luck on the rest of your season
That's kinda how I feel. They showed us a lot, but district and playoffs are more important. I'm sure that they would agree. It sucks to lose this game, but it's not the end of the world at all.
Those two turnovers were definitely the difference in the game. Hopefully, we'll get that cleaned up this week with the bye and come out strong against BC.
Yeah that first one was sure a killer to start off the game with such good field position and then give up a bomb.  Second one was even worse being inside of your own 20 yard line.  You know WO-S will punch it in when you give the ball away like that.  Were the fumbles caused by good hits or just mental mistakes?
I got to the radio right at the beginning of the second half and listened to the WOS broadcast. They mentioned that all of their points at that time came off of those turnovers. I'm not sure how they happened. I was just telling j_dog that this reminds me of several of these losses we've taken to WOS. They're too good to make any mistakes. That was a vintage performance by them tonight and they'll go deep into the playoffs. I'm hoping we will too and that we'll see them again...

 17. Gotta hand it to you, WOS. That defense is something else. I'm proud of our team, but this proves that we have a long way to go. At least we know that our defense is legit because our offense should still be okay. Good job and good luck, Mustangs. We'll see you again come playoff time.
 18. Haven't seen anything on this, so here it is. Hopefully, it's a precursor of what will happen tomorrow night. Go Dawgs!!
 19.
Nice things said about the Dogs.  Setting them up for the Mustang kick?  Yes, good article.  Balanced reporting.
Agreed. It seems that there has always been a mutual respect between people that understand football and this rivalry. There are so many good stories since things heated up in '86 and it would be fun to have a roundtable and just listen to people that were there for those first few meetings. '86 Jasper @ WOS  Jasper wins 21-8 '86 State Quarterfinals  WOS wins 21-15 '87 WOS @ Jasper  WOS wins 3-0 Can't wait for tomorrow! Go Dawgs!!
 20.
With all due respect to Jasper this game wont be close. Jaspe will be lucky to score. Call me arrogant or whatever but Stangs roll in this one and possibly get another shut-out.. Jasper's opponets have been averaging 13 ppg.. WO-S has only given up 13 points all season..
Jasper's not bad on defense, either. 13 ppg is nothing to sneeze at, especially these days when almost everyone can score with their pretty little spread offenses (including us...lol). It's gonna be a great game.
 21. This one's a tough one to call and might be the most even matchup we've seen between these two teams in quite a while. Granted, we haven't seen a defense like WOS at all...but I can't remember the last time Jasper just came out and dominated three games like this to start a season. The big thing I've noticed so far is that almost all of the points we've given up (13 per game) have been in the first half, which tells me that Coach Barbay and the defensive staff have done a great job with halftime adjustments. Jasper's been known to give up huge plays regardless of the coach for about the last decade and it's refreshing to see that starting to improve. I think the biggest key to this game will be whether we can stop the Mustangs and a lot of that will depend on whether they can clean things up on offense (penalties, turnovers, etc.). It's hard to change those habits in one week. Jasper's bugaboo has been those same things for as long as I can remember, but it hasn't really shown as much as in the past. This will be a classic Jasper/WOS game and defense wins, especially at home. The Bulldogs have gone down there and won before and I'm pulling for them, but I think the Mustangs pull out a close one, 21-20. Both teams will be much better having tested each other, too. I'm looking forward to a well-played game and success down the road for both teams. Go Dawgs!!

When our key players come back should be interesting come district.
Turnovers weren't Kirbyville's only problem. Jasper scored very quickly a bunch of times.
 23. Still 47-13 @ end of 3rd. Wildcats have the ball around midfield.
