  1. Why would you bring that up? We know what happened...
  2. Jasper never had a chance in that game because a few of their players were hurt going in, with Tiger Williams being one of them. We wouldn't have won the game with everyone healthy anyway. Coach Barbay is right, but his point is obvious. They need to fix that defense for him to avoid losses like that one. I've been saying that for the last 10+ years. WOS and Newton have the blueprints on how to do that, so we need to study up and become a defense-first football team. It worked great for 20 years with Walkoviak and we should have never strayed from it...
  3. That was the most physical high school game I've ever seen. There probably weren't 100 yards of offense combined that night.
  4. I'm gonna miss the old Dog House. We all had some great times there. I felt the same way when the old gym at the junior high went down, but progress is good.
  5. Agreed. I love good football in cold weather. That's how it should be...
  6. If Jasper and Tatum don't finish in the top 2 one way or another, I'll be shocked.
  7. I like Barbay as a coach and I hate to criticize him, but wanting to take Silsbee off of the schedule and shrugging off WOS isn't indicative of sound decision making. We need those two on the schedule every year no matter what. It's good for the fans and the gate revenues for all three schools.
  8. Thank goodness. We don't need that whole fiasco again.
  9. Honestly, I was shocked with the lack of quality opponents on our schedule, too. There had to be better options out there (like WOS). I don't like padding a record that way, but the way Jasper usually starts out, they might drop a couple of pre-district games anyway. I don't know everything about the circumstances that brought about this schedule, but I hope they change some things next year.
  10. I don't know. He was coaching in Jasper when I was in high school and his wife was born and raised there, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if there's interest on either side. I'd love to see him take that job.
  11. He was offered the OC job on the football staff at Hardin. I don't know if he'll be involved with the baseball program, but he was pretty good in Jasper...
  12. Any thoughts on what Jasper might do? There's been quite a bit of turnover since Coach Mixon went back to Woodville. I can't say that I'm surprised, though. Jasper's been a revolving coaching carousel in itself for quite a while now.
  13. He did a nice job in Jasper. I wish him the best.
  14. Who knows? Maybe Jasper and Tatum start a little rivalry from this. The thing is that Jasper could very well be back to playing in a Golden Triangle district again in two years. I hate the flip-flopping, but Jasper is in a really bad spot on the map.
  15. It would be foolish of either school to back out of playing this or any other year. I'm not condoning the violence involved with the rivalry (which has happened off and on ever since it started), but we know how both towns felt when there was a hiatus recently.
  16. Have only seen bits and pieces of Jasper's schedule. We only have four district games, LCM and Silsbee. Who are the other non-district opponents?
  17. I'm surprised (and disappointed) that it ended up this way, but looking forward to seeing how Jasper stacks up with Tatum and Diboll. It seems like Jasper gets moved drastically every time realignment comes along. A little continuity would be nice.
  18. McNeese has hired Zack Bronson, who played at Jasper, McNeese, and for the 49ers and Rams. He will coach the secondary and recruit Southeast Texas for the Pokes. Solid hire, in my opinion.
  19. I think he didn't want any part of Pelini and knew what he was gonna do, so he stayed away. I think that will change now that he has Riley. Those two will be joined at the hip.
  20. I think Pelini's probably right about Eichorst, but that's never a conversation that you have with impressionable young adults. The only person that should have heard those comments was Eichorst himself.    Riley is the right guy to lead the healing process and he's done a good job keeping the recruiting class together, but I'm a little uneasy about what will happen on the field until I see the coaching and results for myself.
  21. They just need to stop getting boat-raced in games against the upper tier of the SLC and start scheduling better outside the conference. It's good to get a money game every year that you know probably won't go well, but why not schedule a ULL or ULM instead of Texas College? Will they be phasing those games out?
  22. Seattle was dominant. Hopefully, the Cowboys can take that game tape and do something with it...
  23. Good move by LU. Seems like Woodard's got the Cards going in a great direction.
  24. I think Larry will be good with this. There isn't an expert anywhere that's blasting this hire. I remember three different coaching searches at Washington (Huskies) when a very savvy and rabid fan base practically begged for UW to look at Riley. He's VERY well respected for what he's done in Corvallis.    Remember that the Chargers hired him from there before he went back. The guy can coach.
  25. Riley recruited Stanton heavily at OSU. I think he might have the edge, at least initially.
