  1. A lot of the Memorial folks would answer that question, "No."
  2. I think that qualifies as a banner year. Great job, Tigers.
  3. LaMarque/WO-S in 2000. That wasn't a game...that was a slugfest. I have never seen so many young men hit and get hit so hard in my life.
  4. Oh, absolutely. I agree with playing a high level of talent in pre-district. A question, if you know, 75. Was Tarver working on next year's schedule during that period of time where he didn't know if he was going to be removed? Because my understanding is to get the opponents that you really want, you have to get on the stick pretty early. If he didn't, that may explain some of the less than savory opponents on the schedule.
  5. Well, 75, with regard to BC's schedule, a few things need to be remembered: 1. 3 of BC's previous pre-district opponents, Jasper, Kirbyville and Silsbee, schools which gave BC a pretty good degree of difficulty on their schedule, are now district opponents and are no longer options for pre-district opponents; 2. Another, LC-M, lost a pre-district game due to 21-4a going to a 8-team district. Also, LC-M is now trying to ramp up its schedule, going from 3 3A opponents on it schedule to 1 (although I think BC would have prepared LC-M better for district than Kashmere); 3. Liberty looks to have been a perennial pre-district opponent; 4. If you are going to play a private school, Kelly is the one that would test you the most. Tarver may not have had a whole bunch of other options.
  6. I really can't say that I am surprised by the ruling. It is quite common for these transfers to be rubber stamped by the UIL and only in rare cases is the eligibility denied. The one thing that I heard that may justify the ruling was that I was told that there had been recent death threats against G.J. which may explain away why the move was only recently made even though hs dad was shot over a year ago. That may even have gotten him around the statements that his mom made. How? I don't know but as many of you have noted, we are talking about the UIL.
  7. Well, as now a 16 year resident of Houston, I can tell you that as a community, there is not the fervor for football that there is in SE Texas. Lee has been without a football program for several years now. If you go by the school you can see that it really doesn't have the space to support most sports, much less football. Quite frankly, I am surprised that a few more schools around HISD have not closed down their football programs.
  8. Well, it's just when I think of a rivalry, I think of two schools. With the Beaumont Bowls, you have three teams vying for it. It's hard (for me, anyway) to consider that a rivalry.
  9. If Liberty and/or Cleveland doesn't make the playoffs out of that district, that will be very very sad.
  10. Geez, you are pretty hard to please, huh? The Cards have made the playoffs 3 out of the 4 years Tarver has been at BC. The last time BC had such a streak, Cardinal fans were hollering "Woo! Woo!" at its football games.
  11. There is no way of telling how this will come out. 8 strong teams. 6 who went to the playoffs including a Regional champ, a regional finalist and a couple of teams who advanced to the third round. And the two teams that didn't make the playoffs could this year if they were in any other district.
  12. True, it will be interesting to see who is serving and who is dining.
  13. I am here to tell ya, bi-district is looking pretty scary is you are over in 22-3A. Of course, they point to what Huffman did to WO-S a couple of years ago. The problem, this is no Huffman in that bunch. This mega district also has created some difference in who goes in what Division. Over the past couple of years, WO-S knew it was going DI if it made the playoffs. But since Silsbee (829) and Jasper (816), both have larger ADM's than WO-S (806) it is almost a guarantee that WO-S will be a DII rep if it makes the playoffs.
  14. I saw their mock 4A and 5A as well: They do have Barbers Hill coming into 20-4A. They also have 22-5A losing the Spring and Humble schools and adding Lufkin, North Shore and Channelview.
  15. From KFDM.com: An agenda for the February 2 Port Arthur school board meeting indicates Superintendent Dr. Willis Mackey might be preparing to resign. As KFDM News reported Monday at 6 p.m., the agenda states the board will consider accepting the resignation from Dr. Willis R. Mackey and approving a voluntary exit agreement between Mackey and the district. The agenda also states the board will consider appointing a temporary superintendent. We could not reach Dr. Mackey for comment. Doctor Mackey and members of the board have had several disagreements in the past year, and a state conservator was sent to the district to help work out problems involving the board and the superintendent. Dr. Mackey has been the PAISD superintendent since June, 2003. During previous interviews with KFDM News, Dr. Mackey has cited some of the accomplishments under his tenure, including voter approval of a $110 million bond issue and increasing test scores. Stay with KFDM News for much more on the story.
  16. Big loss for the Coogs, BIG GAIN FOR THE TIGERS!!!!
  17. KC, this is an interesting one. Will it be Bulldog Stadium, the Reservation? Or both?
  18. Ya know. The "well, they benefited from Katrina" bit gets kind of old. It smacks of the operator of a Vidor message board who had the nerve to ban me simply because I dared to say that WO-S' football team could have beaten Vidor's last year......WHAT A STRETCH!!! piratefan, Central can brag and boast because they have been there before. In trying to make you case that this year's team only made the playoffs because they were "Katrina aided" you make it sound like last year was the first time that Central had tasted playoff success.....WRONG!!! The truth is that with the exception of the 2004 1-9 Central team, the Jaguars have made the playoffs every year since they started in 4A in 2002....including a trek to the Regional Finals in 2003. Anyway, why are you getting on a Jag fan for doing the same thing that many Vidor fans were doing last year? At least they have some track record to go on! And before you drag out the Hurricane excuse....remember this, EVERY team in this area was affected by Hurricane Rita!!!! The only quality team on your pre-district schedule was BH and they rolled y'all!!!! To Crow's Nest and other Vidor posters, my apologies and I hope that I did not offend too much.
  19. No, raider. It's true. In 5A only, there will be two teams going Division I and two teams going Division II. The other classes (for now) will be sending 3 into the playoffs.
  20. I was going to add that question, that is whether the success is because of Tarver...or despite him, but you answered that for me. That may be cause for removing him as AD, but I'd sure hate to see BC lose a good football coach.
