Setxsports Previews thread location
WOSgrad replied to raidernaytion's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I didn't realize that I would cause so much dismay in placing the previews in their own forum. I didn't think so as this is the practice that I have maintained since I started doing the previews in 2009 and in looking at the archives, it has been the practice since 2007 for the SETXsports Football Previews. Why has it been done that way? Because this is to make sure that anyone who wants to see them can without the worry of them being buried by other threads in the football forum. For those that don't wish to navigate to the forum, I have placed the links to the threads in this forum and plan to update that on a daily basis. Please believe me, I am not seeking to play hide and go seek with these previews. I wouldn't bug the coaches to get the info if I were going to do that. -

However, the Falcons added a stout defense which allowed the Falcons to post a 9-3 record and again advance to the 3A playoffs. This year's Falcon's team, which returns fourteen starters from last year, look for a path that will lead them deep into the 3A playoffs. Among those starters returning will be senior quarterback Preston Townley (1st team all district, 230-378, 2671 yd, 29 TD in 2011). Returning to join him will be junior running back and receiving threat Darion Gray (1st team all district, 98 carries, 569 yds, 8 TD rushing, 69 catches, 470 yards, 2 TD receiving). Also figuring into the Falcon passing game will be junior Cole Harrell (37 catches, 548 yd, 3 TD in 2011) and sophomore Chase Harrell (2 catches, 19 yards in limited play). Protecting them will be a senior dominated line that will be led by senior left tackle Drew Walls (1st team all district in 2011), senior right tackle Zach Woodland and senior center Cody Carver. 2012 Defense Defense: 4-3 Returning starters: 6 The Huffman defense returns six starters from the 2010 unit. Leading the way for the defense will be senior linebacker Austin Williams (1st team all district, 70 tackles, 13 for losses, 6 fumble recoveries in 2011). He will be backing a defensive line which will feature seniors Blake Jones (25 tackles, 10 for loss, 3.5 sacks in 2011) and Tyler Ballard (52 tackles, 12 for loss), as well as junior Shane Lummus. Chase and Cole Harrell (2nd team all district in 2011), as well as junior Clay Barnes (48 tackles, 1 int in 2011) will anchor the Falcon secondary. 2012 Special Teams Junior Cannon Cotter, a 2nd team all district pick in 2011, will handle the place kicking for Huffman in 2012. Williams, an all state punter in 2011, will again handle those duties. 2012 Key games Huffman opens their season with a Thursday night affair at Delmar Stadium in Houston against Kashmere High on August 30th. The Falcons host Liberty on October 5th to begin district 22-3A play, followed by key games at Cleveland (Oct. 12) and Coldspring (Oct. 19). They will travel to Splendora on November 9th to finish off the regular season.

Ozen would be smart to work on the 10 yd and under passes. Mostly quick passes, slants, screens etc. Than bust a long one. You want to get it in the athletes hands and let the speedster perform. I would welcome any team that loaded the box to stop the run. Cause your gonna get burnt on a quick pass.
The key to that would be blocking. You need a good blocking scheme from the recievers but more importantly, the o-linemen. I don't know if Ozen will have a young or seasoned o-line or not. Maybe someone has this information.
Only one of the returning starters is a lineman, but several of them will be juniors and seniors, so they should be OK on the front line.

2012 Lumberton Raiders Team Preview

Most good Coaches will hold their cards and not tell everything or be accurate.
Exactly ! Just because a coach tells you that he is going to be running a particular offense during the up coming season does not mean the he will be running that offense. You don't want to expose too much.
Well, I will just say this. In the questionnaire that Coach Credeur filled out for me, he wrote plainly and with no ambiguity, the words "Pro-I." That is what goes into the preview. Why would I rely on anything else when I have the direct information from the coach himself? Will the Raiders run out of the T instead of the Pro I? Possibly. If Lumberton does indeed run out of the T instead would I believe that Coach Credeur attempted to deceive me? Absolutely not. First, anytime I have asked for information from Lumberton, Coach Credeur has always been straight with me. Second, in this case Coach Credeur would gain no real benefit from providing misinformation about the offensive set Lumberton will run out of in the 2012 season as the only team that MIGHT be truly surprised would be Bridge City, whom the Raiders scrimmage on August 17th. -
Sounds nice!

Man, you hardly get on in a couple of weeks and you miss everything! Congratulations, DV! Midwestern has gotten an assistant with a wealth of knowledge and the intensity to match. Good luck, man! -
First, my apologies. I have been pretty much out of pocket the last two weeks and did not give the start of the previews the fanfare I would have liked. In fact, I squeezed just enough online time to merely post the previews to date. You can see them at the forum just below the football section of the message board or by clicking on the following link: [Hidden Content] I had a blast preparing them! Enjoy!

Ricky Ryan is a great choice for this job as he will be in it for the kids. They may not always be the most talented team on the court, but they will be the best prepared. Congratulations, Coach Ryan!

And in Texas, such anomoly usually brings about change. In Humble, that is no different as Charles West, just off a stint as offensive coordinator at 5A, DII State Champion Spring DeKaney, takes over as the head man in Humble. He and his inexperienced crew...only five starters return...look to make the playoffs out of their new district, 19-4A. Senior quarterback Jeremiah Allison moves over from wide receiver (7 catches, 86 yards, 1 TD in 2011) to take the reigns of the Humble offense. He will be joined in the backfield by senior running back Chris Hardin. Senior Jaylon Zailcoffer (5 catches, 50 yards in 2011) will lead the Wildcat receiving corp. Senior Eduardo Osegueda will anchor the Wildcat offensive line. Those two starters, senior defensive end Jalen Johnson and junior defensive end Niguel Williams, will be counted on to steady things up front for Humble. Senior linebacker Trevon Price and sophomore iinebacker Johnny Bolden will lead the linebackers. Junior Brett Walker will anchor the Humble secondary. Fellow Humble ISD school Kingwood Park will be the Wildcats' first district 19-4A opponent on September 14th. October 5th and 11th will be a key stretch as they visit Barbers Hill on the 5th and host Dayton on the 11th. C.E.
