  1. I agree with the loss of playing time being the most valuable tool we have as coaches to punish, but it is hard in off season to find a viable option. I'm just not sure if using things described in this article are viable options either. Making kids work hard is counter productive in my mind. Encouraging, pushing, reminding them that how much playing time they get and how competitive they will be relies on how hard they work. But, if you have to make a kid work hard, is really ever going to help you win? Coaches, and I am a coach, sometimes go overboard in their desire to get kids to do the right thing.
  2. Holy crap Batman, they interviewed 10 in one night?
  3. Just felt like with all of the knowledgeable people on this Board that we could have an informed and educated discussion about something that is prevalent in many programs and rarely gets reported.
  4. [Hidden Content] When will some coaches realize this is not the 60's, 70's or even the 80's, parents will not support you if you are hurting their kids.
  5. If I was a betting man (haha, if...), I would guess they end up in 8-4A-II.
  6. Yes they do, and that is why every coach done wrong by the agenda of a self serving school board has to suffer the consequences. As do all of the athletes negatively affected by those decisions, and the community that elected them. It is a sad situation for the kids of Hemphill and Coach Launius, both will bounce back a be stronger because of it though, just sad because it was a needless decision.
  7. If he wins a state championship they will build him whatever he asks for.
  8. He should be given as long as he wants. If he cant win on The Hill, then I'm not sure it can be done.
  9. Everybody has an agenda, and some people swing a big stick. Small town politics at it's finest.
  10. They will not find a man more committed to Hemphill than John Launius was. Dumbest move they could have made. I'm sure there are some locals that were mad because the coaches son was the Quarterback. Such crap. John has always been a kids first coach. He learned from the best as a player for John Outlaw in high school. Hemphill made a huge mistake getting rid of him.
  11. I can see him winning and stay for as long as he wants. He will be a Administrator Head Coach. He will surround himself with great coaches and let them do their jobs. His son will run the offense and he will have the best defensive coordinator he can find. No reason to leave after 3 or 4 successful years. If he so desires, I'm sure they will make him AD only on the Hill and his son will take the reigns.
  12. Nobody can argue that the $$$$ was THE factor in him taking the job. It is financial security for him and his family for the rest of his life, who can blame a man for that? But, I guarantee you he sees it as an opportunity to do something special in a place that requires great coaching. Allen has become the place where just about any coach can win. BH is not that place. It is a challenge and an opportunity to win where many people don't think you can win. As coaches we are always looking for that chance to prove that coaching does matter. And at what better place than BH to prove than you can win with coaching, because you sure don't have the best athletes in the state.
  13. I never understood why Nations didn't get the job when Jerry stepped down.
  14. I'm happy for Bren. It is always nice to see a District show loyalty to a Coordinator , because it is so dang hard to get that first Head Coaching job. I wish him the best of luck.
  15. The real question is, how many coaches will be willing to move from Allen to the Hill? I'm guessing, not very many. He will have to do a great job of recruiting to assemble a quality staff. That will be the key to his success.
  16. They are going to have another solid class. I don't know if SOLID is enough to win a West Division Championship though. My Hogs are going to have to have some amazing player development on the Defensive side of the ball to win as much as the Fans want. They are doing a great job on D-Line in recruiting and developing talent, but the Linebackers and Secondary leave a lot to be desired.
  17. Does anybody know if Tony is at home or is he at Bama right now? That would answer a lot of questions.
  18. Great fit for him and a great get for the Razorbacks. Bielema is not on the hot seat and anybody that thinks that is not very well informed. Enos did a great job with the offense this year and they are evolving into a well rounded, balanced attack that will appeal to great running backs as well as pocket passers and receivers. The Towns kid is the real deal and they will be better at QB in the future. They will continue to attract top tier offensive lineman and they will be very competitive on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively they were young and have the makings of a solid group. The defensive lineman that played in the Under Armour game that has committed to Arkansas is a beast and they will be better in the Secondary with some key additions and the experience the young kids got this year. Arkansas is on the move up. Unlike the SEC school in Texas that is struggling. Good choice Devwah and best of luck on the Hill. WPS!!!
  19. He would look really good in cardinal and white next season toting the rock for his first of many 1,000+ yard season on the The Hill. WPS
  20. I never have understood why there is such a big "hang up" about having a persons name associated with a job opening. In every business there is movement and it has nothing to do with loyalty or commitment to your current employer. We all want to better ourselves. There are many reason a coach might want to take another job and most of the time it has more to do with what the "new" school has to offer than what the "old" school can't offer.
  21. This article talks a lot about Texas, but Warren is a beast and if Whaley wants to play a bunch as a freshman Arkansas is the logical choice.
  22. This is still a job. We may love what we do and we may want to win more than anything, but we are all trying to help ourselves and our family's financially. Money does play a role in where we go and where we work. And SETX is on low end as far as coaches pay.
  23. I will preface this by saying I am definitely an Outsider. Sounds to me like there were three factions pulling in three different directions. Stewart was trying to continue to pull the team in the same direction that he had always pulled them, while Hancock was trying to pull them into a somewhat different direction (that did NOT include playing defense), and the Administration just ripped the ropes from both of their hands and is now pulling the entire Athletic program in the direction that they want it to go.
