2 things here.  I've seen shooter with my own eyes that took like 10 3's and might be missed 1.  Mailyn Wilkerson from Summer Creek gets buckets in her sleep.  2nd thing here is I don't think Cam is our best 3pt shooter.  she can ahoot, yea, but I'm leaning more toward Cooper, Anderson, or Boudreaux as far as the 3 ball goes.

You know I was gonna say Cooper. I think that Dill can be put in the scorer category if you consider her role on the team. And yes indeed Wilkerson is a BUCKET.

  2. A lot of basketball has been played so far.  Shooters are a hot commodity, but there aren't very many of them.  Who are they?  Here is my list so far, please feel free to add.  Lets discuss!  Remember....scorers and shooters are two different kinds of players.

    Audrey Postula - Lumberton

    Keily Allen - Hamshire Fannett

    Delberta Guillory-Smith - Hardin Jefferson

    Hannah Hawkins - Woden

    Rachel Sarlls - Barbers Hill

    Cameron Dill - United

  3. HJ's ability to defend the perimeter is top notch and was the difference in the game.  Their help man defense gave the Jasper guards a lot of problems, not at first but eventually HJ imposed their will and was forcing Jasper to work very hard for every point.  Jasper so far had been doing a very good job of neutralizing opponents guard play with their pressure and trapping defense but trying to do that to HJ is a completely different task.  HJ did a very good job of making sure that the ball always went thru their best decision maker (Jackson) and she always made the best play whether it was her scoring or finding an open teammate, which is what makes her a nightmare to defend.  HJ also got huge contributions from Henry (5 threes) and was led in scoring by the Freshman Beavers (18pts and over 10 rebs) who really grew up that game.  I loved watching #14 for Jasper (Scott?) she did a wonderful job while she was in the game controlling pace and she was relentless offensively.  I would have loved to see Jasper go man and try their luck with that because they definitely have the athleticism to do so especially when HJ went to their spread offense.  I would love to see a rematch of these 2, hopefully we get it at regionals!

I realize it just little ole legacy but we are the smallest possible school in the area and we have gone 2/2 with your top 10. Beating Tarkington and LCM. We’ve also played Jasper, Westbrook, The Village(who beat HJ) and Houston St. Agnes(ranked 9th in 6A). We’ve also played #8 in TAPPS Lutheran North (ranked 8th in 4A). Our schedule has been one of the toughest in the area as well. Don’t count us out. Go Warriors! Oh btw we are currently ranked #5 in the state and we have not started district. We have 6 freshman and 2 juniors.

Legacy definitely has played a tough schedule and should be recognized.  They have a great coach and some nice pieces that will certainly take them deep into the playoffs.  If we are considering head to head matchups then they have to be somewhere on the list, also their strength of schedule has to be noted even tho they have had some lop sided losses.  Considering their youth this is all part of the process.

Gonna be a heck of a game...

And just for the sake of debate.  How do you put Jasper over United and they've beaten them?  Also, H-J has quite a few losses.  More than United and Jasper...Was it because H-J played those 6a teams?

HJ has played the TOUGHEST schedule in the area.  Their losses have been to teams who all can make deep playoff runs in 5a or 6a and they have a loss to a top 10 state ranked and nationally ranked team from California.

I would put United ahead of Jasper not based off wins and losses but because of body of work,  United has played the tougher schedule.  I kinda look at it from the standpoint of....what would United and HJ's record be if they played Jasper's schedule and vice versa.  No diss to Jasper because they are legit but just a thought.  Cant wait to see the matchup on Saturday!

  6. Should be a good one!  HJ has a lot of length at the guard position.  I think it will come down to turnovers and who can hit the outside shot.  I give an edge to HJ in guard play, but Woodville's big is a monster down low.  I think this will be a chest match between two teams who love to put a lot of pressure on you defensively and love to get out and run.

  7. HJ is 0-2 so far.  Against 6A #8 Austin Westlake they were only down about 5 or 6 in the 3rd, then Jackson went down with a injury scare and sat out the rest of the game.  They also played well against a very good 6A SA O'Conner team which featured a very fun matchup between Jackson and SA O'Conner's Carleigh Wenzel (they had 28 and 32 points respectfully). On a side note tho SA O'Conner shot 40 free throws (29-40) to only 8 from HJ (3-8)!  I love the fact that HJ is not afraid to play against the best competition that Texas has to offer.  Today they take a very tough SA Reagan team who features a 6'4 kid that is an absolute beast and a 6'1 Freshman that is already committed to Baylor, so should be a fun day.  HJ is definitely getting prepared to make another State run.

I agree with all of the above -

Two teams not mentioned to keep an eye on: Livingston and Tarkington

Livingston has Mya Miles who is one of the best players in the area -   they also have a new coach

Tarkington - returns all of their players off a team that lost a close game in Area and finished second in 21 4A - I think they come out of 21 4A as the champion this year but the misfortune there is they would see HJ in the 3rd round.

For all 4A teams in our region - the road to SA goes through HJ - no doubt about it.

Another 4A Region 3 team to watch (although not in SETX) is Fairfield - they only lost one Senior off a team that lost to HJ in the Regional Final.

SETX girls basketball is on the rise -  IMO - we have some very athletic teams and some very good players to watch this season.

I dont know if Livingston will be the same.  Im hearing that their best player from last season (Hawkins) is in Woden now. They still have a couple of good players tho, so that should be a interesting district.
