Cleveland vs Tarkington
AggiesAreWe replied to sports fan 929's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Silsbee will beat them. ;) ;D -
Scoring for both teams: Silsbee Avory Thomas 25 ( 16 rebounds, 7 block shots!! ) Prentice Lane 17 Pheal Hill 15 Kendrick Jones 11 ( 11 rebounds, 4 block shots ) D.C. Stallworth 9 Kelton Gaines 5 Leroy Simmons 1 Xavior Harris 1 WOS Anthony Noble 17 Justin Francis 14 JaKeenan Cotton 13 Kendric Budwine 7 Darrius Davis 5 Derron Villery-Griffin 3 Score by quarters 1 2 3 4 tot Silsbee 17 24 20 23 84 WOS 13 12 18 16 59 Silsbee went to the foul line tonight! Silsbee was 22/38 at the line, 57%. WOS was 9/18 for 50%. The taller Tigers drew plenty of fouls tonight as Thomas, Lane, and Jones drew plenty of fouls on the shorter Mustangs. Also Hill with his attacking the rim drew plenty himself. Silsbee did not hit a three tonight, going 0-7. WOS hit only 2-14, 14%. Silsbee out rebounded WOS 43-35 led by Thomas' 16 boards and Jones' 11. Silsbee had 14 block shots led by Thomas and Jones with 7 and 4 respectively. WOS collected 9 block shots themselves. Silsbee's inside game coupled with the pressure defense and WOS getting in foul trouble resulted in this 25 point win for the Tigers. WOS had no answer for Silsbee's Avory Thomas. He was dominant inside. Avory capped off his night with a thundering alley-oop slam from Hill, that put an exclamation mark on the Tiger win! His post partner Jones played well also, getting some crucial offensive rebounds and putbacks. Hill and Lane did their usual, attacking the basket and scoring off the breaks. D.C. Stallworth was a little rusty but looked good moving up and down the floor after being off a couple of weeks with the ankle injury. He wasn't really counted on offensively tonight, but did his part to help in the Tiger win. WOS just couldn't compete inside and they turned the ball over on crucial possesions. Also, getting in foul trouble early spelled doom for the Stangs. I was impressed with Cotton and Noble in their ability to attack the basket and get some offensive rebounds. The Mustangs outside shooting wasn't very good, it wasn't their best shooting night, to say the least. All in all a pretty dominant performance by Silsbee to kick start district play. It is always very tough to play at Mustang Gym and a 25 point win will go a long ways to increase the Tigers confidence thru the season.

Would this be worse by leaving before you have ever coached a game compared to what Lane did by leaving after only one year? ;D -
Barbers Hill 0-3 in district!!

That's right, I stand corrected. BH did win it last year. I have no angle. I cover lot's of tourneys, even ones that Silsbee does not play in. I call them like I see them. Take the YMBL for instance, it's a BISD tourney but you don't see them put Ozen, Central and West Brook in any easy brackets. -
Aggies.....I know you.... Your from Silsbee! Your just mad cause Silsbee lost. Wow...talk about the kettle calling the pot black!
How can you say that? Where has Silsbee set up their tourney that way? The answer is nowhere because they do not host a tourney. Silsbee losing in that tourney does not deny the fact of how the tourney is setup. Cleveland won it last year and you don't see them back in that tourney. Their coach also said they wouldn't be back because how it is setup. Coach Broussard told me that himself. -
As for Silsbee players this decade, Desmond Doss was better than Sticks and Lockett. Doss was a 2 time district MVP and was on the Super Gold team twice. Doss also was the only Silsbee player to be named district MVP in both football and basketball. He also made the Super Gold team in football.

I agree that host teams give them self a slight advantage in tourney brackets, that has always been that way. But there is a difference in getting a slight advantage over an obvious one. ;) -
I assume both of you are adults. And you listen and base your opinions on the biased views of someone else??? That makes no sense. ESPECIALLY if you are "covering" a tourney.... :-\
I covered last year's tourney for the first time, from start to finish. The info I recieved from others was on the years prior. But, I only needed what I witnessed myself last year. Last year's tourney was definetly one-sided. 13 total teams, 5 in the upper bracket, 8 in the lower. Six of the top seven teams in that tourney were in the lower bracket. Barbers Hill was in the upper bracket and they got the only bye in the tourney. Upper bracket teams: BH LCM Spring Dekaney Goose Creek Memorial Coldspring Lower Bracket Cleveland Silsbee Baytown Sterling Dayton Nederland Clear Creek Montgomery CE King Cleveland had to play Sterling, Silsbee and Nederland to get to the finals where as Barbers Hill had to play LCM and GC Memorial. BH beat LCM at the buzzer and then defeated GC Memorial by 17, a team that lost to Nederland later in the tourney by 32!! Baytown Sterling lost in overtime to Cleveland in the first round and went on to win the consolation. Nederland won 3rd place. It was so obviously tilted to favor that it's a wonder you guys get any teams to participate. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that. All it took was the first day of me looking at that bracket last year to come to this conclusion. Then folks started telling me while I was there that this is how it is all the time and it's why the tourney is a shell of itself now compared to what it used to be years ago. -
Soulja, if I didn't know any better, I would think you were a Ozen Panther homer with all those Ozen players on your team. Over half of them are from Pear Orchard. ;) ;D It also shows how much 20-4A bias you have. ;) ;D

All it took for me was to cover this tourney once to figure it out. ;) Then the masses spoke to me afterwards on how it's always been.
