1. No. 8 Tigers upend Mustangs, 84-59 Van Wade The Orange Leader WEST ORANGE — Leaving it all on the court Friday night, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs couldn’t quite keep up with the state’s No, 8-ranked Class 3A unit. Silsbee used a big 24-12 spurt in the second quarter as the Tigers went on to run past the Mustangs 84-59 in the District 21-3A opener for both squads at Mustang Gym. The Mustangs (14-7, 0-1) held firm in the early going and were as close as 23-20 to the Tigers (19-2, 1-0) early in the second period but Silsbee finished the half with an 18-5 run to lead 41-25 at intermission. The Mustangs’ big men got in foul trouble early on and couldn’t slow down Tiger post Abry Thomas, who poured in a game-high 25 points and snagged a game-high 16 rebounds. Both Anthony Noble and JaKeenen Cotton filled up the hustle chart like they usually do for the Mustangs. Noble fired in a team-high 17 points to go along with five rebounds while Cotton filtered in 13 points and led the Mustangs with seven rebounds. Justin Francis had a solid game off the bench for WO-S, tallying 14 points while snaring five rebounds. Point guard Kendrick Budwine posted seven points and five boards while Robert Redd had five rebounds. The Tigers were balanced as well. Forward Prentiss Lane had 17 points and six rebounds. Point guard Pheal Hill poured in 15 points and grabbed six boards. Kendrick Jones contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds while Darius Stallworth pitched in with eight rebounds. The Tigers led 17-13 at the end of the first period with Hill scoring seven quick points. Thomas caught fire in the Tigers’ big run in the second period, scoring nine in the quarter. Francis scored five for the Mustangs in the second. Cotton came up big for the Mustangs in the third, scoring four buckets while Noble added six baskets as the Mustangs trailed 61-43 heading to the fourth. Hill had seven points in the period for the Tigers while Thomas had six.. The long and rangy Tigers outrebounded WO-S by a 43-35 margin. The Mustangs turned the ball over 22 times while the Tigers had 15. Silsbee connected on just 22-of-38 free throws while the Mustangs went 9-of-18. The Tigers attempted 20 more charity shots as the Mustangs were whistled 23 times on fouls while the Tigers had just 12. The Mustangs will look to regroup Tuesday when they visit Hamshire-Fannett. H-F (6-13, 0-1) took Orangefield (14-10, 1-0) to overtime Friday before falling 55-52.

 4.
This may be the toughest district in the region.  You have Navasota who was ranked in the top 10 like a month or less ago and for some reason dropped down and is now ranked 23rd.  Then you have 10th ranked Rudder.  You have Rockdale, who has already taken Rudder to OT in district.  Then there is Madisonville who has now beaten Navasota.  You also have Cameron Yoe who has played Rudder, Navasota, and Rockdale within 15 points.  Taylor has also beaten Madisonville.  Thats 5 good teams out of this 7 team district.  Whatever 3 teams come out this district will be a tough out.
With all that said, none will beat Silsbee, Cleveland or HJ. ;D

What happened to Shannon? Did he get any scholarships to play college hoops anywhere?
First of all, why can't you pm?? Shannon got a couple of JC offers, including Lamar PA, but he turned them down from what I was told. I think he is attending Lee College in Baytown, but not playing.
I can't view your profile to send you a message. Really? I thought he would get more offers from more schools than that. Shannon was a baller.
You should be able to view my profile. Other members are able to pm me. Scroll down to the bottom and there should be a function that will enable you to pm.

 15. Scoring for both teams: Silsbee Avory Thomas  25 ( 16 rebounds, 7 block shots!! ) Prentice Lane   17 Pheal Hill          15 Kendrick Jones   11 ( 11 rebounds, 4 block shots ) D.C. Stallworth   9 Kelton Gaines     5 Leroy Simmons   1 Xavior Harris      1 WOS Anthony Noble    17 Justin Francis     14 JaKeenan Cotton  13 Kendric Budwine   7 Darrius Davis       5 Derron Villery-Griffin  3 Score by quarters                                1       2        3        4        tot Silsbee                      17     24       20      23       84 WOS                         13     12       18      16       59 Silsbee went to the foul line tonight! Silsbee was 22/38 at the line, 57%. WOS was 9/18 for 50%. The taller Tigers drew plenty of fouls tonight as Thomas, Lane, and Jones drew plenty of fouls on the shorter Mustangs. Also Hill with his attacking the rim drew plenty himself. Silsbee did not hit a three tonight, going 0-7. WOS hit only 2-14, 14%. Silsbee out rebounded WOS 43-35 led by Thomas' 16 boards and Jones' 11. Silsbee had 14 block shots led by Thomas and Jones with 7 and 4 respectively. WOS collected 9 block shots themselves. Silsbee's inside game coupled with the pressure defense and WOS getting in foul trouble resulted in this 25 point win for the Tigers. WOS had no answer for Silsbee's Avory Thomas. He was dominant inside. Avory capped off his night with a thundering alley-oop slam from Hill, that put an exclamation mark on the Tiger win! His post partner Jones played well also, getting some crucial offensive rebounds and putbacks. Hill and Lane did their usual, attacking the basket and scoring off the breaks. D.C. Stallworth was a little rusty but looked good moving up and down the floor after being off a couple of weeks with the ankle injury. He wasn't really counted on offensively tonight, but did his part to help in the Tiger win. WOS just couldn't compete inside and they turned the ball over on crucial possesions. Also, getting in foul trouble early spelled doom for the Stangs. I was impressed with Cotton and Noble in their ability to attack the basket and get some offensive rebounds. The Mustangs outside shooting wasn't very good, it wasn't their best shooting night, to say the least. All in all a pretty dominant performance by Silsbee to kick start district play. It is always very tough to play at Mustang Gym and a 25 point win will go a long ways to increase the Tigers confidence thru the season.
 16. Silsbee's Avory Thomas had a big game!! 25 points 16 rebounds 7 block shots
