168 1A schools play football 390 1A schools play basketball It's probably fair to assume that those 168 schools that play football is the vast majority of the larger schools in 1A. So by taking 60 of those 168, you leave 108 to play football (give or take a few). I can tell you right now that would be a geographical nightmare and would force many of those schools into dropping football because of the travel expenses.

But the problem with taking that many from 1A is a great number of 1A's do not play football. You deplete their numbers and you will have many more schools having to travel much more for district ball games. Also, 150 in the top two classifications will make for more travel.

Due to issues with transportation (truck in shop), I will not be able to make the trip to Orange tonight to broadcast Silsbee's game with WOS. I apologize for this inconvenience. Hopefully we will be able to pick back up on the Tiger broadcasts next Tuesday night. WOSGrad will post a game thread for this game and we will have updates posted throughout. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Silsbee's 4 non district games are against all 4A teams(PNG, Lumberton, LCM and Livingston). I would say that is a harder schedule than the last two years of Houston Waltrip, Cleveland, Lumberton, Newton and Jasper. As for Newton, I know that Silsbee is scrimmaging Newton this coming season. Not sure who didn't want to play the game but it looks as though Silsbee is looking to play up in classification instead of down. ;)

[/quote] I did say 6 hour round trip. (3 hours one way) In this new realignment today, starting next fall, Sabine Pass will be playing Mt. Enterprise and Tenaha in district, 175 and 190 miles from Sabine Pass. Evadale will be making this trip as well. All on a yellow dog!

Any local media person (paper, radio, TV) will tell you that here in Southeast Texas, local high school sports sells much better than state or national sports. BTW, they do plenty on Lamar every day but it is just one school compared to the vast amount of high schools in the area. Therefore more stories about high school teams and players. No newspaper is like it used to be now with internet and cable tv.

So 6A obviously would come out of the top half of 5A. By doing this, you realize that this will cut down on schools in each classification therefore creating more districts that will have to require more travel. There are some district right now who have to travel 6 hours round trip for a district ball game.

My sources say no Lamar coach has been on the Memorial campus for a very long time. No player from Memorial was offered, word was LU was frightened they would not qualify, didn't want to waste their time. The fact is, none of this will be proven good or bad until about 3-4 years from now.

The Jasper/Silsbee game is just flat out tradition!! Don't mess with Tradition! >:(

If they MUST play the seeding game, I would much rather it be played at the Montagne than Ford Park.

Jasper and Silsbee have been playing each other since 1922, 74 games total, every year since 1948, 64 games straight! That series will come to a halt as the two teams could not work out a schedule for the next two years with the new realignment. This is a crying shame!!! Really hate to see this happen. Never experienced a Silsbee football season without playing Jasper. :'(

That's just down right stupid. UIL forcing a school to travel over 6 hours round trip on a yellow dog for a district football game. They may have to do it twice in same year if the Sharks have to play Mt. Enterprise and Tenaha on the road. That's terrible!!! But yet, let's make the schools watch their budget. ::)
