  1. Just how good is the Spurger boys team? I heard this age group hasnt lost yet, is that true? How did they do against Beaumont, Twin County, and Hamshire Fannett? By the way, i know the coach at Slocum and have seen the team (Slocum) that Spurger plays in the first round of the tournament. Slocum's 8th grade team won their district in school ball, over state runner up Laneville, who was in their district. Slocum came in 2nd in their regional tournament with Cayuga coming in first.
  2. I found this note on Buster Olney's blog today that i thought i'd share with yall that i found interesting, i'll cut and paste it for you. • Heard that Roy Oswalt's new changeup -- a pitch he wanted to refine this spring -- might already be among the best changeups in baseball. "It's a hard changeup," said one evaluator. "A Bugs Bunny-type changeup," said another
  3. Like i said in an earlier post, i hope Nieve gets the job. Hes got the best stuff of the 4 going after the job. I would say i would least like Moehler to get the job, where i think Nieve has the most upside, i think Moehler has the least upside.
  4. I've always liked Fernando Nieve, i think hes got the makeup to be a pretty good pitcher. I hope he makes the rotation because i think hes the most talented and has the most upside. At this point i think he's got a pretty good chance, i'd rather see him make it than Wandy.
  5. I'm familiar with Orangefield's basketball program and i can tell you that the freshman class from this year is one of the best to come around in a long time. The freshman team was undefeated until district and lost to only 2 teams (HJ, Silsbee). They did this without their 2 best freshman players. One of them played on jv, and was one of their best players, and the other played on varsity (Zach Hayes), and he was a key contributor to the team by the end of the season. They should be improved next year, but in 2 years from now watch out for this team to contend for a couple years.
  6. Ok, i'm gonna make my predictions for the Kountze regional tournament, and my predictions are open for discussion. The juniors i know the least about, but i've seen Orangefield and Twin County and they are pretty close, and imagine Kountze is good so i'll say those 3 battle it out for 2 spots. In the majors division, Kountze is the class of this division, they should come in first and i think Orangefield and Twin County are pretty close and should play a close game for 2nd. The seniors i think is the same scenario, Kountze i expect to be the best, and i've seen Orangefield and Twin County, they are evenly matched so whoever wins that gets 2nd. So basically Kountze will probably be the favorites in all 3 divisions and Orangefield and Twin County will be playing for 2nd spot to go to nationals. Heres the bracket for Kountze and it shows the teams and schedules for all 3 divisions. [Hidden Content]
  7. Juniors= 9-10 yr olds Majors= 11-12 yr olds Seniors= 13-14 yr olds
  8. How close was the HF-Twin County majors score? Where was it played? I heard Twin County has 2 studs on their team? Is that true, what do you know about them?
  9. Somebody on here thats seen some of the different teams in this area throw out some predictions for the Junior, Major, and Senior divisions for the Kountze (or Van Vleck) tournament on March 29-31. The junior and major division has Buna, Bridge City, Orangefield, Kountze, and Twin County, while the senior division has only 4 teams (no Buna). So lets see some predictions, which 2 teams will represent each age group and go to nationals?
  10. No Kristy Sanders?? Apparently no one from TCGA went to the regional tournament. Ok this tcga does a girls poll, and they had Orangefield ranked 20th for a month or so, and had 1A Lovelady (who lost to #1 Martins Mill by 2 in regional final) ranked 17th. This is also the same poll that had COLUMBIA ranked 3rd in 3A for a long time and look how bad Orangefield beat them. I guess what i'm trying to say is that TCGA has no credibility in my opinion like TABC, their poll was a joke in some ways, like the examples i gave.
  11. [Hidden Content] got this from Astrosdaily.com, a great site for astros news.
  12. I dont think it has been finalized yet, but it looks like Direct TV and Extra Innings will do a deal together so now you cant buy the extra innings unless you have Direct TV. Last year 85 million people could get the extra innings package, now there are currently 15 million subscribers to direct tv so thats quite a few less that will be able to get the EI package. I had extra innings last year (i have time warner cable), and am not happy that i cant get it unless i change to direct tv. I think Bud Selig is making a big mistake considering many think baseball needs all the fans support and Bud is turning away a lot of baseball fans with this deal. And if you're paying 150+ to watch out of market games, you're probably a pretty big fan. I've always thought Bud Selig has done a decent job over the years, and think people have given him a hard time too much, but i disagree on this one,it makes me mad, and i just cant back him on this one. What do yall think about this? Please post on here if you've had the extra innings package and you cant get it and your thoughts....
  13. 1st Team Scott WOS Wilson Lumberton Sanders OF Green Silsbee Kellum Kville 2nd Team Carmon HF Pickering Lumberton Little OF Henderson WOS Fowler Silsbee Honorable Mention Shores OF Roy OF the point guard for HJ (name?) Riddick OF I didnt see Barbers Hill play, i'm sure there are a couple from there. Central and Ozen i'm not familiar with really either. There are a lot of names i know i'm leaving out, but i think this is the best 10 there could a few i dont know that could crack the list.
  14. How many positions are there going to be for the all setxsports team? for example, is there going to be a mvp, off mvp, def mvp, newcomer, 5-1st team, 5-2nd team, and maybe 5-3rd team? I think this needs to be specified so when people are doing nominations they'll know what they are nominating for.
  15. Coach Ives is at Slocum, hes the softball coach....if we're talking about the same Coach Ives.....
  16. green for diboll fouled out in the 4th and made the difference for crockett winning in OT.
  17. Everyone take it easy on some of these Slocum fans. I promise you its just a couple of kids that found this site and are posting, supporting their team. I know some of the kids there and i think i know who did it. Slocum is a great community though with great kids and great fans. They are a young, up and coming team that will probably be in playoff contention the next couple years. SHSSenior07, sorry if you didnt like my pick, but i was being objective about the game.
  18. There was one thing i forgot to mention about this game from my previous post about Slocum. This game will have a local flavor from both teams. Slocums head coach, Jay Bruce, is a graduate of Orangefield High School. Before his job at Slocum, he coached basketball at Kelly High school when he was in college. Jay was the QB of the 99-00 OF football team that made the playoffs and set the school record for points scored in a season. Just thought people might want to know that.
  19. Roy Oswalt...ever since he was called up from the minors.....
  20. I agree HubTx, Crockett and Diboll are probably the favorites in these games. But i would call them both SLIGHT favorites. I think both games can go either way and if any of these teams won, i'd have a hard time calling them upsets...The only team that won that might be considered an upset is if WOS won, but thats ONLY because they were a 3rd place team in district, albeit the hardest district in the state.
  21. OK, i think i may be the only person on this board thats seen Slocum several times in person (maybe a few others have seen them before) so i think i am one of the few that comment on this game having seen both teams, although i only saw West Hardin once. First off, nobody calls them Elkhart Slocum, just Slocum. Here is all the notable victories for Slocum this year: Mount Enterprise (2nd place in 20-1A) Lapoyner (3rd place team in a tough 19-1A district with Martins Mill and Cayuga, they were ranked 13th in state at the time) Lovelady (tied them for 2nd in 22-1A) Latexo twice (they won 22-1A last year with same team, they would make the playoffs in 24-1A) Neches twice, one of the by 20 pts (1st place 24-1A div II) Wells by 27 pts (3rd place 24-1A div II) Elkhart by 20 pts (2A) Central Heights (2A) They lost to Grapeland AT Grapeland by 3, they were winning the whole game and lost it at the end. Grapeland won 24-1A and is ranked 16th on TABC. Grapeland will likely be West Hardins opponent in the next round if they win this game and will be very tough game for them next round. Slocum is a young team, their best player is a sophomore. They arent big, but they play hard defense and are scrappy. They do have a number of guards that can shoot it from the outside. They are well coached and play hard. Money 431 said in an earlier post that they like to spread you out if they get a lead which is true only sometimes though, it depends on the matchup. I've seen entire games they dont run a spread offense. Slocum had a tough district in 24-1A, tougher than 22-1A, because they didnt have any teams like Evadale or Sabine Pass that were easy wins in their district, every game was a battle. They finished the year winning 5 of their last 6 games, only losing to only Grapeland in that stretch, so they finished the year strong and peaked at the right time. They will play hard and give West Hardin all they can handle, so WH better not take them lightly. If they have an off night or dont play hard Slocum is very capable of winning this game. All that said, West Hardin does have a better overall team and Letsinger is the best player on the floor. I'll put West Hardin as a 10 pt favorite.
