I am formally BleedOrange on here and have not comment since 2008, of course that was when my daughter graduated. I really enjoy and appreciate the job you guys do on this website. I like being able to get the scores and they are usually posted the night of, that being said I went to watch Orangefield varsity last night in any sport for the first time since 2009. I was impressed, these kids have skills and moved the ball around well. I go watch my grandkids now and they have some talent coming up. Don't know about the girls but the future looks bright for the boys in basketball. No we will probably never beat silsbee. LOL!!!!!!

There is no better football and fan support than Southeast Texas / Golden triangle and you can take that to the bank. :)

I'm sure he is and I hear the passion in his words. I get what MoFo is saying and sometimes it comes off harsh, that is fine too. He cares and so do I.

You have to break the cycle....in 4 years of High School football...my mom never saw me play, my dad saw one and he left at halftime...I know how that felt, so I try to make all of my kids events when possible...life happens. I also disagree that many of these parents arent trying and can make it to liquor stores etc...many of these kids are from single parent households, the city bus is transportation....and the parent or parents can't make it

Savant19- Sorry you are appalled! I don't think anyone meant any of their comments to be offensive. As parents that want to be involved with our kids, we look around and think why would others not? Plus in all honesty, we as parents are hurt for those kids. You have to work, I completely understand but I don't think every single person is working every single time there is a game or school event going on. Besides, I am a firm believer in breaking the cycle and not using hardships as a crutch for how your life is. it is like people that say, for example I was beat as a child and that is their reasoning behind beating on someone. At some point people have to change their way of thinking and behaving. Again, I understand that people work, I miss some things because of work but if we are being 100% honest all of those people are not working every single time. Love is free!

Like I said Ladybug I have lived it and I will stand my ground on it cost NOTHING to love and care about a child. You hear everyday about these pro athletes that came from the most poverty stricken areas in the US and you hear them talk about a mom, dad, or grandparent that was always there for them

Sorry to sound blunt but if you can't raise a child don't have a child. I don't have to visit the area they live in, I lived it. It cost you NOTHING to show love and be there to support to a child, nothing but time

I disagree to a point, yes some parents can not make it due to finances, but I would be willing to bet 85% of those parents that could not find a ride to the game their child was playing in found a ride to a liquor store, out to eat, night club, bar, or to grocery store. I see it all the time they have no problem finding transportation to something that is vital or beneficial to them

I graduated from Alief Elsik in 2001 and I can always remembering feeling a little embarrassed when we would get to the playoffs and play someone like Katy in the Astrodome and we might have 800-1000 people and Katy would have 15000 to 18000 I always wondered why poeple didnt show up and support the community schools.  Even when I was a freshman and our basketball team had Rashard Lewis (Gatorade player of the year) and Elsik would play a playoff game or a road game and there would only be 150-200 Elsik fans and the other school would have 500 I never could understand why this was until I went back to work in Alief.  Like Coach Huddleston stated he works at Hastings now he sees the inner city first hand, I can remember having to take 6-7 kids home from baseball practice because they did not have a ride and the only way the kids could get up to practice or game on saturday was by the Metro.  It sucks for the kids and I couldnt stand why people would not show up to the games but when they dont have a ride, the kid doesnt have a real home, mom or dad is in jail (or both), grandma is raising them and she just got off the night shift and has 30 minutes to change and get to her next job, it is unreal until you see an experience it.  I have met many fine men that are teachers and coaches at these schools and many of them know you probably wont or ever get the chance to play for a state championship, but they know they are the only male figure in these kids life and they wouldnt trade it for anything.  I have all the respect in the world for Coaches like Coach Huddelston and Martel at Hastings and Coach Barron at Elsik, they would, will and have bent over backwards for these kids in these inner city schools

While I am happy about the Hawks pulling off a win, I cannot help but to be saddened of the lack of support for the Houston athletes. I do not care if my son's team loses every game by 50 my butt will be in the stands to support him during the game and to help pick him up after.SHAME ON YOU HISD PARENTS AND (warm weather) FANS. I only hope that you support them in their academics better than you do in their athletics. Kudos to the Houston athletes you now have a fan in me for striving forward with zero support from behind you.

I was at the game. OF started out very slow and slugish as the score at half time would show.
I think OF was up by 4 or 5 at half but then got it going in the second half and looked alot better.
Give them time and have a little faith madofcs.
I also watched the JV game. Great group of kids on that team also. All of those kids are capable
of playing Varsity this season or in future years but there is not one player on varsity that is
not capable of playing Varsity ball. They just need to play with a lot of heart and up tempo.
Just like past teams have done over the years. The JV and Varsity teams are full of players
that want to win and will give 100% to do so. May not win every game but it wont be for a lack
    of effort or Coaching.
Years ago most of the OF Girl players played year round and spent lots of time and effort on and
off the court. This year you might have a few that play year round but don't eat, sleep and live basketball 24/7 and it shows. I assure you they will never quit and will represent OF basketball
well on and off the court and that is very important.

OF gave us all we want plus a little and yes I would call it a scare (I was getting fidgety in the stands). I said going into the game they would. I know some of those kids personally, they have NO quit in them. I think OF will be the sleeper team in these on coming playoffs. I believe them being 3rd in district will cause some teams to look past them and that will not serve those teams well.

As far as my FINAL statement on WOS (unless we see you in playoffs)  I knew we would have to play a perfect game and WOS would have to make a few mistakes (and I stated that prior to game). Neither happened and the end results reflected just that. It was not a punt call or bad officials or the weather, or a lunar eclipse, HJ did not execute WOS did.

I think our area will be VERY WELL represented in the upcoming playoffs and I hope HJ starts the ball rolling tomorrow night.

I just dont understand this . I thought the point of getting to play in the playoffs was you have to WIN . Now you will have teams with losing records complain about an 0-10 team in the playoffs . back in the day you had teams that played 7 district games and if you lost 1 game you may not make the playoffs. Hell , you may share the district title and not make payoffs so i could see 2 teams from the district going . Just think of how many teams up until 1982 could have won state titles or had long playoff runs if 2 teams per district could go too the playoffs ? Many teams going 9-1 , 8-2 didnt make the playoffs , nowadays you have teams getting in with losing records , and now a winless team ? Ridiculous !!! But we should expect this because now you have All district Picks that use to be about 13-14 per offense and defensive players on both sides of the ball make 1st team . Nowadays you have 24-26 players on just one team . which is almost 50 players total on the offense and defense . Then that same amount on the second team and Lets not talk about honarable mentions . that would mean every kid that suits up makes an honor ? Can you say watered down !! So with that being said i guess in a few years every team in every district will be elgible for the playoffs no matter if you earn it or not .

I can only think of one poster that has said that definitely HJ would win. I think every other HJ fan knows that WOS has dominated the history of this matchup and to come out with a W will require a whole lot of hard work, effort and some luck. WOS is the current champion and until they are knocked off, that will remain.
However, HJ is now in the second year with their new head coach and can run this offense to a "T", pun intended. :) We also have some speed that WOS has not seen from us.
The defense is much improved with lots of size and hard hitters. Will your receivers be a problem for us, yes, but I'm sure with two weeks to prepare, Dubois has taken some steps to try and at least limit their production. You're QB will have to scramble some, which actually may help you out.

Win or lose, this game is certainly "game of the week" if not "game of the year" (outside of midcounty madness) for this area.
Good luck, I hope both teams give it their all and come out injury free ready to make deep runs in the playoffs.

I have been on almost since the start of setxsports. I too got off at one point because I felt at that time the rules did not apply to everyone. To much cyber police. But it only lasted 3 days, I could not stand it. Changed my name and jumped on board again. I don't post as much anymore but still enjoy the website. I learned a long time ago to take what people say like a grain of salt.
