I’ve seen you play and coach . I don’t blame anyone for making changes to better their families livelihood.I personally think it is a little early to award the district MVP especially with the way some of the young guys from Silsbee were playing last night. This is the weakest I’ve seen this district in years.

This is true. I agree with all of that.

Yeah you put them two on the court the red head would dominate the one they have now.! He was like 6'9 and could straight up ball but that's all Lumberton had was just him on the team in them years of high school. If he would of had the team Lumberton has now they would have beat Silsbee last night.

I got you! I wasn’t around then. 6’9 that could go is rare. Wish I got to see it

Lumberton had a really tall red headed kid in 93-94 that was really good Can't remember his name but he was way better then this guy they have now.

Way better? He didn’t play Division 1 basketball because this guy they have is the 1st basketball player to ever go D1 out of Ltown. I know there are a lot of other factors when it comes to that though

Someday I hope to get the vast grasp of the game you seem to think you have. Did you gain all that knowledge in your teens or did ya soak some of it up in your twenties? But you’re right this is beating a dead horse. One thing that was clear last night is Silsbee is the undisputed favorite in this district.

I don’t know everything about the game but I have a decent amount of knowledge about it. I played for Silsbee and coached for a couple of years. Miss it but made a change for my family. Silsbee is definitely the clear favorite, which I love. Another thing that is clear, McClure is the MVP of the district. Idk who will get newcomer out of Harris and Miller but I give the nod to Miller.

IMO, the point guard for HJ (Baxter Wirth) is an overall better player than McClure. He might not average as much points as McClure but he's smarter and a better team player. He also doesn't get half of his points from the free throw line. Wirth doesn't get the credit he deserves and HJ wouldn't be near the team they are without him.

Lmao! What college did he sign with?

I may be wrong but I think Michael Saladin led the nation in 3 point percentage last year. I hate to have a differing opinion with the basketball gods but Ryan Donahoe, Jarvis Bernard and Zjori Bosha we’re all 3 better basketball players than the young man from Lumberton. I know I’m gonna make ya drop your coffee but RJ Sears is a better overall ball player. I don’t mean any disrespect to Mr McClure but you’re trying to make him something he isn’t. He’s a very good high school basketball player and there’s nothing wrong with that .

    Not in the argument. Sorry.

Ryan Donahoe? Absolutely 13 years ago

Jarvis Bernard? Absolutely 11 years ago

    Bosha? Absolutely not

Prudhomme has an argument I would think. Saladin was a two time all state player that averaged over 20 in his junior and senior year probably not a better player overall, but still in the argument. Also, I have no interest in arguing why Parquet isn't a Hawk I assumed growing up in the district and starting for two seasons would be enough, but okay.

Where did Saladin play college ball?

McClure was probably 49 out of 50 from the free throw line. He did step it up a bit in the 3rd quarter. Honestly he didn't look like he wanted the ball in the first half, though.

That other big kid Lumberton had was going off for a few minutes at first, then disappeared.

I was proud of the way we played tonight. Lots of players made big contributions that weren't named Miller or Harris. Two in particular were Lamarcus Bottley (another freshman) and Mason Brisbane. They made big defensive stops to pad that lead going into half time. Trey Haynes stepped up big time in the 4th. Gilder was also big tonight and provided the senior leadership this team sometimes needs. It was a great all around team effort.

Really getting sick and tired of people crying about our players. You either need to get tougher, or go watch some other less physical sport. I'm done hearing it.

There's teams out there that will do you a lot more "dirty" than Silsbee. What are you gonna do when/if you play one of them? Fold and complain I guess.

I sat right behind the Raider bench and Coach Mitchell himself told his kids to stop being soft.

Honestly he probably was about 24/25 from the ft line. Great players know how to draw fouls. His shots were not falling until the 2nd half. I was impressed with his game today overall. Probably had 40 points 15 rebounds (again). As far as Silsbee being dirty players, we have ALWAYS had that on our back lol people hate our style of play. You are exactly right, get tougher!! I am extremely impressed with Harris and Miller. To only be freshman, my goodness they are going to be unstoppable. Very bright future in Silsbee.

  9. Looking forward to this game! I’m 100% Silsbee, but I’m a huge fan of McClure as well. This is going to be a battle. I believe that Silsbee has the better team but McClure is big time. Lumberton has a couple kids that can hit open shots in the corner so if Lumberton can handle the pressure, I can see them making it a game. Plus they have a kid or two that are big football boys that bang inside.  Miller and Harris are big time as well, so we will see what happens. I do not see it being more than a 8 point game and I do not see it being a high scoring game.

I’m not sure Id believe this statement. HJ had to have a little to do with it. I wish the McClure kid the best at Lamar but I’m not convinced his game translates into D1 college basketball. JMO for what it’s worth.

    Huh???? Lol

his game translates exactly into D1 college basketball. He will get to actually play his position at the next level. Kid is a flat out pure shooter and can score at will. He was missing shots that he hardly ever does against hj.

It’s up to the opposing team to adjust their play against aggressive defensive play. Usually a team with a couple of good guards will adjust nicely. I don’t think the Tigers defense is as intense this year as it has been in the past. As long as the officiating is consistent it’s up to the teams to adjust .

It’s equally as intense. They just don’t have two big bodied D1 players lol

  12. The deal with the refs ANY time when playing Silsbee is simple. If they come out calling a loose game (like they did tonight) it is hard for any team to handle their pressure. The refs could have easily called 20-25 fouls on silsbee in the first half. Their aggressive defense turns into fast break points that other teams can’t keep up with. If the refs come out and call a tight clean game, silsbee has to back up and not play AS aggressive. Silsbee was NOT playing dirty. They were playing how they are taught to play the game from the age of 6 in little dribblers.
