You complaining about not having more WOS players on the team is like Lebron James complaining about not being named MVP every year. He could make a great case for it every single time, but it's not going to happen. And, a lot of times, the Coach of the Year vote is made relative to expectations. As great of a season as WOS is having, pretty much everyone expected it this year. Coach T winning coach of the year last season, when WOS was expected to be "down", is kind of what I'm talking about.
But I realize people will complain no matter what. Oh well, what can you do.

There should be one or two Mustangs on the offense list, but I have no beef with the Jeff Matthews pick (Surprised Robanadana?). Vidor wins (a share of) disctrict for the first time in 30+ years beating Memorial in the process. Nice job, Pirates and Coach Matthews.

I will be there in full Pirate kit with the boy who is my avatar (grandson) and two of his buddies who will be in their Whitney Wildcat jerseys support the West Orange Stark freaks of nature 2 Mustangs!
WOS Mighty Mustangs 45, Sweetwater Shetlands 21.
Kai's dad is a graduate of Yoakum and we'll be there Thursday supporting them as well. What a weekend coming up!!!

He is good Skip but not as good as the Robinson QB IMO. #5 will need special attention, and several of those 270 pound OL guys are going to get a real workout if they are playing both ways.

Whether or not they are better or worse than the bigger teams matters not. The mere fact they made the USA Today Top 25 is a HUGE honor. I wonder when the last time a school from their classification made this list? I'll bet if there was, it would be a 3A school because it was before the reclassifications. Anyway, I know it's not the goal of those boys but still quite an honor in my opinion!

It would be cool if you could have a national high school playoff. I would like to see some of those northern teams they have ranked get the crap beat out of them by the Texas schools. I've seen California ball; no comparison.

They might match up for a while but the difference in depth would catch up to them in the end.

I stopped paying attention to this particular all state selection many years ago when they named a Nederland linebacker state defensive player of the year and he was only 2nd team all district.
This media all state team selection is almost as comical as Vype's basketball rankings.

I want to tell some of the folks that really care a little about Sweetwater. What I saw last night was a little different. The wos fans keep taking about the slot T and how many times they have played it this year. What I saw last night was maybe different from anything I've seen in the past. Sweetwater runs completely out of the spread, but it is not a spread like y'all saw against Gilmer in 14'. I'm trying to describe it and what keeps coming to mind is a spread/slot t hybrid. The do a lot of not hiding the ball but hiding the receivers. They will roll someone to the backside on almost every play. It's not something you guys certainly can't overcome, it's just a little different than what I have seen. It's kinda like they took our offense and kicked it up a notch.
With that said they are not big......at all. They got some shifty little runners that we didn't tackle very well. I don't think WOS will have that problem. I can see a game real close to the score of yalls last night game. They're tough country boys, but I think that Sweetwater is in for a rude awakening. One that we would probably have gotten had we been fortunate enough to win. Sometimes you got to just tip your cap!!!!

robanadana got a reaction from TxHoops in West Orange-Stark 49 Geronimo Navarro 7/WO-S advances to AT&T!
Navarro didn't run the Slot-T worth a crud and went to the spread several times. For a bunch of high school kids I believe this would be a little too complicated. When they ran out of the slot and the very few times they cut up the field off tackle (like you're supposed to) they were able to make some yardage. Trying to outrun WOS to the sideline without Ezekial Elliot was just stupid. 10 out of 10 times WOS beats this team...to me they just weren't that good. And, no way I kick, punt or anything else that let's KJ put his hands on the football. Regardless of the team he is the best football player in SE Texas, period.
TxHoops, I don't think it matters what offense you run; you're not gonna beat WOS. To me, your only hope is holding on the football and running the spread insures that they get their hands on the ball once every 2.5 to 3 minutes. Game over.

robanadana reacted to Gabe in West Orange-Stark 49 Geronimo Navarro 7/WO-S advances to AT&T!
If WOS goes on to win the state title (and I say if to stay away from an jinx) this year's Mustangs team could very well be the best team to ever come out of SE Texas.
If Navarro doesn't score, Mustangs will have 9 shutouts and opponents would average 3.7 points per game through 15 games.
