And HJ won by 27.  Sneed and Beavers were both substantially better last year than the year before when HJ and BH played, and they still had Ashlon Jackson, who had offers from basically every major college in the country.  I’m not usually one to play the common opponents game, but when HJ beats a team by 84 that barbers hill beat by 5, that has to tell you something.  HJ beat another team by 83 that BH beat by 15.  Almost the entire hawks preseason schedule was against 6A, and many of those were ranked, and they won several of those games.  I’m not going back to figure it up, but I went through it last season and they had something like 4 wins against ranked 6A opponents and another 2 against ranked 5A opponents.  They also had a couple of wins against ranked teams from other states, including the #1 team in all of Colorado at the time. Barbers Hill had a good team last year, but wouldn’t have even been in the top ten toughest opponents HJ played.  Their schedule was full of close wins (and a few losses) against average teams.  I didn’t realize Carter was back this year, which definitely makes a big difference, but last year against Ashlon Jackson and the hawks BH loses by 30.

Fact is HJ is worse without Ashlyn and BH is much better with Carter.  Would have be interesting had Carter been there two seasons ago.

BH was not as strong last year, not arguing that,  as they were the year before but this year they will be much better. Carter will provide offense  and in turn open up scoring opportunity for everyone on the team.

HJ is still the cream of the crop.  They lost the best 4A player in the state, but still have two players coming back who received all-state honors from various organizations, and 6 of their main 8 players from last year.  I don't know if they'll make it to state again, but I don't see anyone in this area giving them too much of a game unless they've lost a player or two that I don't know about.

Does that include Barbers Hill? Dalanna Carter is back!

I really think we’re giving Hill to much credit for the success at WR against Crosby.  Every play that Herndon scored on was a corner blitz with the safety cheating over. WR 6’3 corner 5’11  its a no brainer once the CB stayed home it was a wrap. They caught CHS DC off guard  by having some talent at that position. TC watched the film and shut that ish down.

Too much credit for the 6'4 Wrs who run 4.5s? Good lord can you not be objective at all.

Yes...that is her.  She is basically taking the place of Harlee.  She is very good.  She can serve, hit, block and play back row.  I really think they are going to be better than last year. BC played Nederland and Orangefield Friday in a scrimmage and beat them both 25-23. I know its just a scrimmage but I don't think BC has beat Nederland in a long time.

Nederland barely beat BC in 5 last year so BC won two sets in a real game just last year. I dont think you replace a Sr District MVP with a freshman no matter how good the freshman is. Maybe they will prove me wrong but thats my feeling. Nederland also lost their best player from last year as well.

I’d still say BH is the favorite. They just have so many girls who play club compared to us. We’ll see how it comes together next week. I caught a little of their team camp this week though. Looking pretty good so far! I think:

    1. BH

    2. Crosby

    3. Sterling

    4.Nederland

    5. PNG

    6. GCM

    7. Lee

    8. PAM

Pretty good list I think. I agree with your top 4. I am curious how Sterling will perform this year and Nederland has some talent coming back.  Article on them from last week

This is the hidden content, please

Setter/right side and pin hitter I believe. Should help us round out the rotation with our returners. We’ll see how it comes together next week!

Also, I don’t know much about Bridge City but I know one of their girls came to Stellar this year where my daughter plays. Actually, several girls from our area moved there this year.

Sounds like Crosby picked up some help.  Does this make them the favorite?  What is your projected order of finish?

Bridge City Should be good again this year.  They lost the MVP but they have some Freshman players that are going to be great assets to the team.

I know they have one club player, the districts supers daughter I believe.  Losing the Harley girl though has to hurt.

Thanks! I agree about the up in talent this year.  Kate knows a lot of the girls around district from club  or knows of them if not personally.  She has those games marked in her mind. She loves playing against good players and there’s definitely more this year than last. One of our transfers came from BCA and is a junior and the other is a sophomore  from California I think.

What positions do these new girls play?

  9. Glad to see some chatter.

Hardin - Bridge City -Huffman, who do you have out of these 3? I know Hardin lost quite a bit and BC lost the district mvp. Not sure about Huffman, but I thought they were young and have a new coach.

Speaking of BH, how does everyone see that district playing out? BH, Nederland, PNG, Baytown schools, Crosby, PAM

I think the only reason he’s still there is because of what you mentioned so IMO it doesn’t go unnoticed. Kudos to the BH folks on that part. I just know I would prefer my son to play for a different staff though. Like somebody said above though, glad were able to choose freely.

I would be onboard with your comment if westerburg was still there, but what exactly about the new staff do you not like?

Correct, some do go to Dickinson. Again, it depends on what side of the highway you're on? Is/was Crosby trying to "recruit" him or is/was he trying to go to a better situation for undisclosed reasons? What I will say is that it won't be/wouldn't be a good look for a kid like that to leave BH.

Not it wouldnt especially for all the school has done for him off the field which goes unsaid and unappreciated.

Is Crosby trying to recruit him or is he not completely bought in at BH? He’s also a good basketball player. Who’s to say he doesn’t want to come play for programs that are better than the ones he’s in now? Sometimes different narratives develop depending if you live east or west of 146.

I don’t think there’s anything to that rumor, if there even is one, but a player like that wouldn’t be allowed to transfer to one of the better teams in the district anyway. You would have to get them pre-PAPF like BH just did with the Crosby qb. A Dixon-type transfer would be denied at the DEC level by a vote or two even if BH, Crosby, PAM and possibly La Porte all voted affirmative.

Crosby definitely put out feelers as has his 7on7 team members who I believe go to Dickinson. I agree though, if he tried to go in district he would be sitting out a year for sure.

Yes, the heavier, faster and more versatile route runner with bigger hands and a higher vertical is the better college prospect. Dixon also averaged more yards per catch than Herndon and is better at high-pointing the ball in contested situations. Not to mention Dixon looks likes Julio Jones while Herndon looks like Matt Jones which really isn't a slight since Matt Jones was a first round pick too.

I know you're pretty naive when it comes to high school football so just as a point of reference Johntay Cook is the top receiver in the state. He's 5'11.5" 170lbs and had 806 receiving yards on 39 catches last year in 14 games. Using your logic the recruiting services and multimillion dollars staffs made a mistake and should've taken Kameren Kirkwood from Crosby since he's similar size but had 1,090 yards receiving last year? NFL scouts don't look at who had the most college receiving yards and then draft accordingly, they look at what a player did in college that could translate to the next level.

Philip Beck(Blinn/La Tech) had one of the greatest receiving seasons in THSF history, 124 catches for 2,202 yards and 24 TDs. He's definitely the best high school level receiver to ever play at Crosby, with that being said you're still not going to find many Crosby fans that would take him over Singleton(Utah/UH), Patterson(New Mexico/Rice) or Netherly(LSU) today.

I think Cougar is talking his book, rumor is Crosby is trying to recruit Dixon.

Why play at Lee College?    Bigger arena.   Would take a huge crowd to fill it.   HS gyms offer a better atmosphere.  Coaches agree on the neutral site.
Lee College also presents a depth perception issue when shooting .   If your not familiar with it I can see it causing issues.

lol its a better arena end of story. Dont have to fill it to have a great environment.

Oh I know coaches agree, I get it from the Sterling side...they are playing in their own GCCISD Arena, it may not be their home court but they will certainly get the home treatment vs a truly neutral site.

Depth perception? come on, both teams have the same looks.

  15. What’s more neutral for BH and Sterling, playing at another Gccisd school like GCM where Sterling plays every year or playing at Lee college ?  Neither are affiliated or have even played there in years….Hmmmm

Not to mention Lee seats a bigger crowd more comfortably.

i guess it’s better than last year when BH drove all the way to Manvel to play Laporte lol. That made zero sense.
