Bridge City (35) Navasota (27)---FINAL
TheMissingBand replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
There was an even better one ‘09-ish that caught Coldspring in the first round when CS was really good. We lost one of the defensive ends tonight, plus my understanding is that Breeden was a maybe, but suited up…. But not at 100 percent. We weren’t as dominant as we have been-didn’t get a lot of pressure on their qb. I didn’t see spending much time in their backfield at all. Good game, but we left the door open for them to come back and make it a game. To their credit, Nav didn’t give up, even when down by 3 tds in the third. I felt like we got a little conservative in the same stretch, but up by 3tds, you should. Nav just didn’t roll over like they were suooosed to. *im supposed to mention that #68 in blue was a class act after the game. -

Cards receive to start the second half. -
I think Livingston got less hate when they got caught fudging their numbers so they could play down a division. The difference is that they weren’t going to beat anybody in either division, while we broke records and hurt feelings.
-
The lone blemish on our record came from a game in which our opponents were punished for cheating. Did it cost us the win? I think so, but who cares? But it’s definitely “asterisk worthy.” Why did we move up? I don’t know… you’d have to ask the AD/HC who made that decision-and he’s not in BC anymore. Last I heard he was pimping snocones outside the XYZ gate at Motiva. I’ve given my reasons why I think the move makes SOME sense, but that’s just my opinion. But only a hater would see a school opting UP to face larger schools, then winning district, then notching a playoff win a division above their attendance-based classification as a bad thing.

Nice job OF… They might have beat you, but you gave ‘em what you had. Way to represent. -
I think as long as Fedora is calling the plays, you have to pick Navasota. Heck of a Coach.
-
Yeah… that’s us, bro…everybody else from 10-4A D1 has been eliminated. It’s us against the world AverageJoe…. We opt up to play larger schools and that’s “running from competition.” We beat schools in our district and that’s “bullying” those bigger schools. Everybody picks Chapell Hill to beat us, but when we knock them off, it’s “oh, CH isn’t CH this year.” We opted up a division, went 9-1 in the regular season, with that lone loss being the result of cheating that resulted in our opponent being punished by the UIL. We won our district. Then we won a playoff game against an opponent that everyone agreed was going to smoke us down. But somehow we’re the bad guys. If think BC has earned some respect this year, and if y’all don’t feel that way, we don’t care. We’re going to support our kids and recognize and defend what they’ve accomplished, whether y’all do or not. And I won’t apologize if that rubs you the wrong way.
-
Kilgore better worry about the second round.
-
PNG also has an undefeated record. 5 of their opponents they faced this year ended up with losing records.. only five had winning records. And PNG didn't opt up a division, either. I don’t get your point. What could we have done to dominate more?
-
10-1* Should be 11-0, except for the game for which LCM coaches were disciplined by the UIL for cheating. It’s pretty hard to be much more dominant than that. What else could we have done? Win harder?
-
I’m not sure who you’re here supporting, because I don’t ever see you doing anything but say negative things about other teams. BC is a great program, we’ve got the hardware to prove it. We just haven’t always played up to our potential. The thing about haters is this… they’re always gonna find a way to minimize your accomplishments. The same people who are complaining about us “running from competition” (even though we KNEW the D1 playoffs would be tougher) will complain again next year whether we stay D1 or are forced down to D2, especially if we keep dominating.

*naive

I’m starting to like the idea of ramping up in competition as district play starts. What’s the point of going 2-3 in non district play and going into district play banged up, or even losing kids for the year in meaningless games? Is it a coincidence that our district record got way better when we stopped scheduling tough non-district opponents? I don’t know.
-
People forget that we played in this same district in the previous alignment. These are teams that we were used to playing. Another thing is that BC has a really strong involvement with other groups that participate on Friday Nights. Our drill and band are some of the best in the area, bar none. The 4A D1 district is a lot better fit for “us.” Schools like LCM, Lumberton, and Huffman have similarly supported marching bands, etc… there are some years that WOS doesn’t even field a band, and the participation by the ones that have bands is pale compared to the BC program. Places like HF can’t seat our band, drill team, and band parents in their visitor stands, much less the regular Cardinal fans. Our school is a better fit with the bigger schools, even if our attendance numbers don’t put us up there. I think we’d have finished no worse than second this year had we played in the local D2 district. Just my opinion.
-
I don’t understand all of the BC hate. When great football programs like BC and Newton step up and beat larger schools, why do we face ridicule? I could understand if we were trying drop down and face smaller schools, but we’re not.
-
We just play whoever the UIL puts in front of us. Besides… we’re fighting up and out of our weight class anyways.
-
I’m really hoping the weather holds out and #10 for BC is ready to go. It should be a good one.
-
I distinctly remember a thread last week where it was stated that Lum might have a chance at a first round win, but they were the only team with a chance for a win. As somebody else mentioned, the “pros” had CH favored by 12 points. It was an upset in that we beat a team that everybody picked to beat us. Who cares about a #1 vs #4. Who cares that we’re supposed to be playing down a division? We won, so move on. I’m not sure which was a bigger upset… us beating chapel hill or the feelings of those NETX fans… they still seem pretty upset to me.
-
Who are they playing this Friday?
-
Well, BC is going to show up, play hard, and won’t quit. I know that much. How is Navasota this year?

Tyler Chapel Hill 21 vs Bridge City 24— Final
TheMissingBand replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
Here’s my actual take on last night’s game. CH’s team was definitely bigger and more athletic than our squad. Sometimes bigger and faster teams win, and sometimes the team that executed better gets the win. It was honestly a really close game, but CH just made more costly mistakes than we did. Their bad plays seemed to have worse consequences last night than ours. We botched the snap on a punt, but the punter recovered the ball and still got it out of there. On the flip side, CH botched a snap on a punt and downed the ball deep in their backfield giving us an easy 7. Stuff like that. Our defense kept us in it when we couldn’t get our offense moving against their very solid D-especially up front. Hosting a playoff game in BC was outstanding… first one in memory, and the atmosphere was as good as it’s ever been in my opinion. It was a really, really good night for the BC. I was also very proud to see a pretty clean game-I can only remember one unsportsmanlike called all night for a scuffle near our sideline. But I can’t count all of the times I saw one of our kids offer a hand up to a CH player, or slap somebody from the other team on the back. I saw one of their kids lose his helmet and one of ours picked it up and handed it back. It kinda stuck out after the festivities from a few weeks ago vs LCM. Their band and drill team put on a good show, but I was a little surprised that their fans didn’t travel better. Kind of a small crowd, but it was three hour drive for them on a workday. We didn’t destroy anybody, we just played our game, had some lucky breaks, and were ahead on the scoreboard when time ran out. On to the next one. -
Little Cypress-Mauriceville (14) vs Kilgore (61) - Final
TheMissingBand replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
Yeah… that’s not what happened. Kilgore wasn’t so mad to be leading by 40 points that they started throwing punches. LCM’s kids weren’t happy about being outplayed and couldn’t control their emotions. So they asked for (and received) an actual beatdown so they’re crying about it. I’m not sure who your grandson may be, nor do I care. But some schools (BC included) have a reputation for getting into squabbles. It happens. The fact that LCM is probably the most widely known athletic program in the area for being DIRTY is somehow lost on the Bear Faithful. You can go back to the Bear Mascot picking a fight with the Indian Spirit in the 90s to LCM’s Winters destroying BC’s Baker late, out of bounds in ‘17, to the basketball brawl LCM started vs Silsbee in 19, i think, to them standing tall before the UIL a week ago for cheating… y’all are dirty. The fact that you cry about getting what you asked for is just shameful/comical to me. -

“Beating all of us doesn’t mean anything!” isn’t a very good insult.
