1. NS is not as talented as they have been in the past especially on the defensive side. They are small by NS standards and have given up more yards this year than they did the first 9 games last year. I have only heard about the WB offense in which they have a very good WR but how is the rest of the offense? QB is pretty good. Do they run a spread? Are they ground and pound? Have they shown growth through the first 4 games?

Believe it or not the NS offense and not the NS D is our staple. They are pedal to the metal. Our QB is becoming a very good all around QB and has gained a lot of muscle so when he does run; he is a load.... Good luck tomorrow. Hope to see a good game.

will they EVER get that snapping the ball issue fixed? wow

  2. I haven't posted on here for a while but after watching NS play their first 4 games I am here to let you know that BWB has a very good chance of winning this game. If you have watched NS over the years; you would think that they are ground and pound. Well that is not the case anymore at least not this year. They are averaging 26 passes a game and are running 70 to 75 plays a game so buckle up cause the play clock will never be used offensively. Fun football if you like a fast pace offense. They are pedal to the metal. So, if BWB is a just a little out of shape; it is going to be a long night.... Now as for the NS defense; it is not even close to what it has been over the years. It can be had. They have given up an average of 420 yards a game so the big question is can WB out score NS??????

Here's the deal on numbers.  Some schools have right at the bare minimum(Cedar Hill) some schools have to grease their kids up to get them in the building(Allen) and some have nice ADM's(SLC's and Euless Trinity's) but there's a whole lot of junk out there with 4K plus ADMs and no wins to show for it.  You can only play 22 at a time and some places---espcially in these times, numbers aren't the end all be all to success at any sport.  Sometimes, your ADM is 4K and you have 2K of fecal matter to choose.....

It's all about participation numbers. Dallas Skyline has 4000+ kids yet they suited up 38 players vs Cedar Hill. Dont let the numbers at North Shore fool you. It's more "futbol" participation than "football" participation. Schools with larger enrollments usually do good across the board in all sports, not just one...like The Woodlands..Baseball, Volleyball, golf, Football...etc...they are all contenders.

  3. WestBrook got 3 offensive snaps vs KT in the 1st quarter. Taylor has a new coach, new system, they went from the spread last season to more of a power run game this season so they are still learning and WB was unable to get their offense off the field for awhile. North Shore is 10x more advanced in the running department than Taylor is and way more athletic. North Shore has a bitter taste in their mouths and I expect them to run away with this one.

  4. Way too early to tell. Respect Manvel for thumping Westfield and North Shore...but the past two teams to end their season were POWER running teams. North Shore and Westfield are athletic, but physical, TEAM football...Katy is another monster.

I messed this all up lol...I meant to say "Northshore and Westfield are athletic but phyisical teams that play TEAM football LIKE Katy are a different monster". Westfield had a lot of shotgun, zone read etc...same with North shore....Katy olinemen get after ya and wear you down.

  5. Where is the George Ranch game? GR is/will be the one of, if not the TOP teams in 5A. Agreed that the defense needs to step up for PAM...they will score, but they will need to slow down offenses like GR. The game could be a shootout like the Bellaire and Laporte games last season, and I'll go on a limb and say GR's offense is better. A win over the Longhorns even though they are 5A would send a huge message. Lamar, the transfer capital of Houston, not sure what to expect with them. Waiting to see how all those "All-stars" mesh and play together. Again, PAM's offense will be crazy good....but like Manvel vs Katy last season, you can have the best offense in the world, but they do you no good sitting on the bench because your defense can't get off the field. I was reading another thread that said the past two season Manvel's season ended vs running teams and they didnt force one single punt in those games, they also had 1 sencond half possesion vs katy, punted the ball away after their first series in the second half and never got the ball back again.

  6. Will NS make do without their coach? Maybe. The question still remains. Coach Aymond has put the football program on the map! Hopefully his successor will carry on the tradition! Other than that, I am going with Memorial on winning the district title!

Legit questions....new coach, new system and many have them winning district, some going to state.

  7. Manvel is still in district 22 with the same teams as last year plus Pearland Dawson. They are no longer the smallest in the district, but not the largest either. Sixth out of nine teams. Dawson (smallest in district) will make the playoffs. Either SoHo or Pasadena would also have to make it to push Manvel to D1. Possible, but not very likely.

I do think PAM will be the #1 D2 seed out of 21-6A this year. Likely to play Dawson in bi-district.

Yeah, I dont see Manvel going D1...the other scenario from the one you posted is Pearland MISSING the playoffs...dont see that happening. Manvel is in...probably gets LaPorte first round. PAM gets Dawson.

  8. How are we defining prestigious?  Most wins, best facilities, best coaches, most scholarships, best chance at a state title, most players in the NFL???  What materialistic things are we using as criteria for these selections?

Personally, I would want my kid to play where he grew up and where all of his friends are.  But I know in this day and age, that is becoming the exception instead of the rule.  Instead of trying to build tradition where they are, many choose to move their kids to programs that are more rich in tradition or have a winning record.  My problem with that philosophy is that I thought we were supposed to raise kids to be able to handle and overcome adversities in life.  Parents that move their kids to a more 'prestigious' program instead of letting them suffer a little, learn to fight for what's important and accept any challenge no matter how great, are what is wrong with our world today.

    Agreed. Good post.

I also understand that every kid that puts on a uniform isnt going to the next level, not every kid puts the pads on ever again once HS is over so I would want his HS experience to be good for him all the way around....enjoy it. HS is only 4 years of your life...so is college and so is the average NFL career IF you're that lucky....that's 12 years of your life.....that goes by fast...don't want to put all of "Life's eggs" in that one basket.

  9. Yes 3000 yards. Westfield had two quarterbacks throw for a combined 1900 yards or so. The QB position was the weakest position on their team. Sterling-Cole is a huge upgrade. Plus Westfield also got a blue chip transfer at wide receiver. They had two running backs that ran for over 1200 yards a peace and a blue chip tight end so the play action game will be on point. I always felt that Strrling-cole was being under utilized at West orange do to defensive minded and conservative coaching.

I think Westfield is a run first offense and may have attempted 200 passes last season....even when they had a pretty good QB in Jacoby Walker(Arkansas) it took pretty decent playoff runs for him to crack 2,000 yards. Westfield is a large school with talent year in, year out. I dont think they are gonna change up everything and go full spread just because of two transfers. That's like saying a stud WR moving to Katy will get 1100 yards receiving IMO. He still has to adjust to the game speed at the top tier of 6A and competion level, this will be a heck of a jump and Spring ISD are never hurting in the "athlete" department.....again...just my opinion.

everyone one keeps referring to hitting and tackling with good technique. how about learning to take a hit or a mass tackle. when I played, we used to have 30 minutes a day of kill the man with the ball. learn to defend yourself. uil is following suit with the pro's in trying to prevent head injuries. as noble as a cause as it may be, they are going to happen. it is a contact sport. where I can see limiting hitting in practice sounds like a good idea, it only decreases game time intensity and preparedness.  jmo...........

    30 mins a day....3 days a week=90 min

Overkill if you have a game Friday

I'll lay odds that this will increase the number of injuries on Friday nights.

Tackling is a lost art. The teams that coach it up, win.
Yep!

all though I agree  on your above statements.. most teams have been scaled back to this for awhile now... me i believe you have to have full contact for the body to learn how to protect itself on a 2nd nature status.... just like breathing... your body has to learn how to take a hit... which muscles to tighten... which ones to loosen... and it will get use to repairing itself over a weeks time.... if you don't think that is a true statement ... ( as much as I hate to say it being a Cowboys fan ) look at the Steelers and Ravens.... they hit more then anytime in the league during the season... and they are the least hurt.... or at least they were in the Cowher days... now that they have slacked off they have more and more on the injury report....

but back on subject most teams are all ready in this mode....
It's a lose/lose situation.  If you don't hit a lot and have physical practices, then it translates to poor tackling and blocking on friday night.  If you do hit a lot and go full speed most of the week, then the ones you have left are really sound fundamentally.  But depending on who you lose during the week, it can be devastating to that team's season.  If you don't have the numbers in your program, then it affects you the most.  You're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

How much time a week during the season do you think coaches spend on "Tackling" drills? How many teams you know have multiple, full speed, game simulation scrimmages during the week during the season?
