tigerheart got a reaction from SHSALUM in SETXsports High School Football Rankings - Week 5
I like the new format for sure!
As for the rankings...well not a chance in hades Cushing is the 2nd best team in 10-2A
Also in the 4A/3A poll...no way woodville is better that shepherd and coldspring -
tigerheart got a reaction from HDBobcats9 in Colmesneil vs Shelbyville
Maybe so...but they are running an offense that gives them a chance to succeed. Because they are lacking in athletic ability compared to other schools. San Augustine scored 9 times in 40 plays against them in their scrimmage. Colmesneil was outgunned at every skill position. I think Colmesneil will be competitive once they start playing 2A-D2 schools, which they won't do till district. They have played nothing but bigger schools. Give these guys time and some games against competition they are aligned with and then go from there.

tigerheart got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Hemphill vs Burkeville
You are correct. 2A-D1 SA has lost to 3A-D2 Garrison, 4A-D1 Splendora and Private School in the Southwest Prep Conference Dallas Episcopal. Won't even make excuses for any players that didn't play because injuries are a part of the game of football.
When San Augustine actually plays a school their size, I think they will be just fine.

Good test for shepherd this week. Secondary is probably the weak spot of the defense, but a good d-line (which shepherd has) can be the great equalizer and make the secondary look alot better.

Smooth!

tigerheart got a reaction from Bighornet in Splendora 38 San Augustine 21/Final
If I have to take a loss, I'll take one over a bad 4A-D1 school without our all-state starting QB versus a loss to an 0-10 3A-d2 school any day. -
tigerheart got a reaction from snafu in 2014 SETXsports High School Football Poll - Week 2
Possibly the same way a team loses to a team ranked 5 spots higher by 4 pts on the road and drops 3 spots afterwards.
I'm guessing most of the small school voters simply score watch and don't have a ton of knowledge of all the schools they are voting for. Just take it for what it is, someone's opinion and a talking point and move on. -
tigerheart got a reaction from SteelerCzy in Woodville (1-0) @ Joaquin (0-1)
Woodville better be ready for the double wing because Joaquin is very good at running it. Joaquin had two pretty good RBs as well. Don't think this will be a cakewalk for woodville by any means. They are going to have to play 4 good quarters of football. -
tigerheart got a reaction from skipper in who the heck is richmond foster
Defense is pretty salty at foster. Gonna earn everything you get against them. Solid ball club. -
tigerheart got a reaction from Uncle Si in Who is the top QB's for the upcoming season in setx???
If all San Augustine did was throw jump balls to the two big receivers I might agree with you that their loss would hurt big time...but I don't recall them doing that too much. One of the big guys played inside WR and the other was outside. Both very good, but definitely didn't rely on the jump ball/ deep ball. The only game they really threw the ball deep consistently was Shelbyille and that's because shelbyville manned up all night and SA was getting past them untouched at the LOS. Don't sleep on what SA could trot out at WR next year.
And I'm not sold on Williams being the better scrambler. The two are pretty similar athletically with Jmike being the bigger of the 2 I believe. At several camps this summer Jmike has consistently ran in the 4.5-4.6 range including being named QB MVP of the ETSN combine and recently at the Blue-Grey Super Combine (invite only) for the Blue-Grey All American Game. He also ran on both the sprint and 800 relays in Austin this past spring. There is obviously more to scrambling/being a running threat but 1000+ rushing yards from the QB spot speaks for itself.
And I know you weren't downing Jmike in anyway, and I have no intentions of downing Reshod either. Both are great kids, with great potential and skills. I just like to speak up for Jmike just as you speak up for Reshod.
Personally I wish the WS-SA game was week 11 instead of week 7 so that we could see these 2 go at it for a possible district championship. -
tigerheart got a reaction from Amphibious Rodent in Talent To Win?
A great coach can take average talent and make them very good. A great coach can take great talent and make them excellent.
A bad coach can take average talent and be below average. A bad coach can take great talent and make them average. -
tigerheart got a reaction from H-D BOBCAT 55 in Hull-Daisetta's 4 Horseman!
Agreed. Huckaby seems to be a great kid and is a very good athlete. I do think he could play at alot of schools...just not quarterback.

tigerheart got a reaction from HDBobcats9 in Hull-Daisetta's 4 Horseman!
Kid is fast yes no doubt...but he ran against an SA kid in 3 races. At area he beat him by like .03 seconds. He then lost to him in both the 100m races at regionals. At area i thought the kid got a great jump and ran a great race. At regionals the SA kid had the better starts. It just goes to show that in the 100m race, the difference in 1st and 5th or 6th is tenths of a second.

tigerheart got a reaction from Yeoj in WOS relationship with Texas
I agree that you don't want to burn bridges...but how is it the fault of coach strong? He has to put his own spin on what is now his recruiting class. It would be different if Mack were still there and pulled it. But in today's world of win now attitude in bigtime college athletics, if Strong didnt see Shaw capable of playing and contributing for Texas I don't see a major problem with it. He has the right to evaluate kids and do as he feels best for his program. -

tigerheart got a reaction from H-D BOBCAT 55 in Hull-Daisetta 2014 Schedule
My thoughts...
Hemphill- was bad last year but they return atleast a decent QB. Wont be a pushover, should be a win.
Burkeville- just based on score watching should be a cruise.
Sabine Pass- should be another nice easy win for HD.
Colmesneil- don't know what they have coming back, but HD has taken care of business the last 2 years. Would be surprised if that changed.
West Sabine- lose 80% of their OL but have a couple of good skill kids returning. Right now I'd say WS but this is more a wait and see. Probably the first L
Groveton- playoff team in 2A, has beat HD the last 2 years. Must win game to start district. get behind the 8 ball with a loss here
West Hardin- see Colmesneil
Anderson-Shiro- playoff team in 2A that has a lot of players coming back. If you don't beat Groveton this becomes must win with Centerville looming.
Centerville-district favorite and possibly region favorite. play a come right at you style of O, which doesn't bode well for a team with not a ton of size
Lovelady- very possibly a win and you are in game for HD. don't know what LL has back
At worst I see HD winning 4 games and missing the playoffs. At best I see 8-2 and a 2nd place finish.
Should be wins- Burkeville, Colmesneil, West Hardin, Sabine Pass
Closer to wins than losses- Hemphill, Lovelady
Closer to losses than wins- West Sabine, Groveton
Gonna have to play really really well- Centerville, Anderson-Shiro

tigerheart got a reaction from mmccary in San Augustine Wolves Football Schedule 2014
I wasn't aware that the 2013 San Augustine football team was playing the 2014 schedule. My apologies for assuming we were talking about next years team for next years schedule.

More kids to choose from doesn't automatically mean better athletes. Speed and athleticism are speed and athleticism no matter what A it is.
