1.
Honest question....Is this a game I can attend with my son or do I have to worry about dodging fists and bullets getting to the car?
Just because Yates is a black school doesn't mean they are ghetto thugs. Though none of the basketball players live there, the Third Ward is where most of the students and the school are and is generally thought of in a better light and more classy than the Fifth Ward where Kashmere is from which is straight hood. Essentially, the Third Ward is like the Pear Orchard in Beaumont. A historically black neighborhood but a decent one. You saw/heard what happened with Kashmere Friday night but that won't happen with Yates because they are different schools/different communities. Besides, I have a feeling Silsbee fans will be heading to their cars much sooner than the Yates fans so there should be no problems.
2. Nederland fans are defending Lee because they want to keep him in the district so English can outcoach him again year after year. They are terrified of what could happen if Central gets a real coach and not a bus driver.
3. Congratulations to the Ozen Panthers as they continue to show themselves as the class of the area in 4A basketball
4. Why not blame the coach? there is no reason they should not get past the second round with the talent they have over there. Just like in football Central needs to clean house in basketball and bring in a real coach who can develop talent and players.
5. Silsbee with Todd Sutherland as coach and they might have a chance...
6. Cox interviewed today. No joke.
7. This is suspicious to me that Nelson being let go comes the same time they are interviewing coaches for the Central job. It is like they decided we like this guy and we like this guy so let's hire them both- one for Central and one for Ozen. Also this does not seem like a Saveat move. I would be shocked if Pat Lambert was not the one behind this. She is supt of secondary schools now and has been known to clash with football coaches.
8. I'm sure Coach Johnston is a great coach but when was the last time he beat a team of equal or greater talent while at Newton as head coach?? With all the talent over there they should be making farther runs than they are. I watched Cameron Yoe on TV in the state championship game and there is no way those boys should have beaten Newton with all of those athletes.
9. If it is Brown I don't get it. What does he bring other than name recongition? He is a nice guy and was a good quarterback back when Bill Clinton was in his first term. So what? 5 years ago he was selling real estate and he is not a certified teacher in the state of Texas. Central needs someone who can match wits with Larry Neumann and Brown is not the guy. There are a couple of coaches on that list that I feel like Central will be regretting not hiring a few years down the line-- Graham and Goodwin.
10. Get rid of it and be like Lufkin Hudson and Pollok Central in East Texas- 3A schools that focus on basketball. Why waste taxpayers dollars on a sport if you aren't serious about it? Those that want to play football can go to a Beaumont school, Silsbee or Lumberton.
11. The AD has gone outside before- Stowers was an outside BISD hire, Stump was an outside BISD hire as was Flanigan. I don't remember where Ish Rison at Ozen came from but I don't think he had strong ties to BISD.
12. Magee would also be good as he has a lot of experience and was a proven winner at Westbury and Willowridge.
13.
None of the 5 current BISD employees that applied excite me.  But... James Brown...just feel he'd be a good fit. Jonathan Cooper...comes from a winning program. Kevin Goodwin...took nothing and made it into something. Marcus Graham...Central ties. Tim Green...comes from a winning program. That would be the 5 I'd interview.
With all due respect to Mr. Green and Mr. Cooper-- Green was just a position coach at WO-S and Cooper was a freshman coach. I don't even know if James Brown is a certified teacher. He has just coached at private schools and college.
14.
I say Brent Walters - 2nd from the bottom.
If he can count to 10 it will be an upgrade
15. [Hidden Content] Some impressive coaches on this list. Hope they consider Kevin Goodwin who has done a great job at Center. Don't know much about the Graham guy but seems like he might be good and is a Central grad. I'd say finalists should be:  Marcus Graham, Kevin Goodwin, Daryl Hobbs, Keeath Magee, Sedberry Jr plus I'm sure James Brown will get a courtesy interview spot along with BISD coaches Scott and Meteyor.
16. Doesn't have any head coaching experience
17. Where does he have offers from so far? I have heard a few D1s have already offered him
18. WHere is his son going to school next year? He is a great athlete.
19. But Sam Houston wins with its out of town players while Lamar loses and loses badly. If Lamar isn't going to recruit locally that is fine but they better get good players they can win with. The problem is Woodard has no clue what he is doing and in over his head. It is time for LU to get a real coach who can move this team forward and let Woodard go back to someplace that isn't out of his league like the arena league or JUCO.
20. This sounds like profiling to me. I know of another local team that did something similar during a school day. Not going to name it but I think most of us know which one it is. But anyway the rule is total BS and another case of the UIL's selective enforcement. I bet if you look, Katy and some of the other top teams in the state probably have strategically placed "inservice days" scheduled sometime during the final weeks of the playoffs haha
21. Congratulations to Coach Martel. A little surprised to see him get a better head coaching job after struggling to produce wins the past few seasons at H-J but sounds like a situation where they are already familiar with him from him having coached in the district before and know he is a quality coach and person.
22. Cool theory. So if Cox was a great OC and handcuffed by Washington why did he stay there four years and not not go impart his offensive wizardry on some other team?
23.

I don't want Fontenot.  He's more of a 'hype man ' than an actual coach.  I want someone that knows their x's and o's...
You right about that a coach who knows his x's and o's can put graet talent in the right places on the field, and do more with less.
I agree with you but the "Administration" of BISD likes him so don't be surprised...
Even though they like Kirvis I think some of us know why it is that he won't get this job...
24. Not sure why Foreman would want this one. I think Speights went after the Anahuac job and didn't get it. Don't know much about the other candidates except for I think Taylor turned down Hardin last year.
25. Some of the finalist I heard are: Scott, another BISD coach, a former BISD asst coach, an out-of-town coach
