The more I think about this, Nederland displayed a lot of disrespect last night, and I won't forget it >:( Yall came out in a man to man...very disrespectful Colton at the point..very disrespectful..dude stood out there like a "brother" on a 5th Ward playground..."come and guard me."
Dove- That may be your fault. You said on this very board that Nederland would sit back in that zone and challenge the Panthers to shoot the three. Coach English, knowing what strong connections/influence you have at Ozen, may have opted to take a different route intentionally just to throw the Panthers off.

Are you talking about the "winning tradition" or the tradition wherein nearly every able bodied Beaumont high school basketball player attended Ozen in its early years? If you are talking about the second one, I wouldnt guess that one could be replicated. By the way, the traditions of the Celtics and Lakers are both not being extended currently.
I agree 100%...Nederland is not the same either, thanks to the leader of that program, BUT...The fact that Ozen no longer has the same championship swagger is more apparent...it's not an EMBARRASSING loss, but it's just not the same. You think PA Lincoln would EVER lose to Nederland? It just was not happening. That's how that program was built, and although it was not the same in the end, they still beat who they were EXPECTED to beat. I mean close games with PNG?? That's not suppose to happen at Ozen, but it's just not the same Ozen.
You are right- its not the same Ozen. The talent is spread across Beaumont now instead of the majority of basketball players going to Ozen as they once did. You keep mentioning things such as "do you think PA Lincoln would EVER lose to Nederland? A few years ago, you could have also asked "do you think Ozen would EVER lose to Vidor" and we now know the answer.
I have always had a problem with this topic. I'm not saying that all of the coaches listed are not great coaches....they all have proven track records, experience, resume's...etc. But what truly makes a good coach? If someone truly is the "best" coach...then why don't they win a title every year? Why don't they win every game? Aren't they in a position every game to "out coach" the opposing coach? You cannot tell me that a coach that has won a championship is a better coach than all coaches that have not won a championship.
Well said

Is Mr. Culley retired? Does he live in this area?
Compared to Yates in the past few years, on a scale of 1-10, I would give about an 8. Yates today, I would give a 6. Most average or normal high schools, I would give a 4. Kinda like having 8 million dollars and your net worth falls to 6 million (Yates). Normal high schools $100,000 worth dropping to $50,000. 6 mil in one hand and $50,000 in the other.
Are you suggesting that, this year, they did not get as many move ins seeking academic excellence as they have in the past?

That man has won everywhere he's been and will win anywhere he goes. I haven't seen any of English's teams but I've heard he's a pretty darn good coach.
I think Coach English to be considered on these list's, he needs to get his Bulldogs to Austin a few times.
There are a number of great coaches who never get to Austin and there are some who got to Austin without much coaching expertise.

Whatever you do, dont challenge him to a golf match.
I've only challenged him to answer the question about the last time Silsbee won a State Championship or played in the State Finals. Still awaiting an answer.... after two days.... ;)
I have done the same thing in the past. You have already seen his response. It turns to the Silsbee football team. When I mentioned that HJ had several state golf and tennis championships aside from basketball, he remarked that those sports were inconsequential and not as important as power lifting.

Dove- How did you know in advance what the defensive plan is that will be implemented by Nederland?

Same principals should apply in all circumstances
No disrespect to what Coach Sutherland has done at Hardin Jefferson. I am just curious to know why HJ is continuously highlighted on Sports Extra year after year with the attention and interviews and they are at best the 2nd best team in their district this year. HJ was featured earlier in the district season with a Sutherland interview and also was interviewed live before the Ford Park game. Why hasn't Silsbee or Coach Sigler been featured? The first place team in their district! Why hasn't Central been featured? Why hasn't Ozen been featured? Makes you say hmmmm!
You should go directly to the television station(s) and ask them to make things right.

I get it that Silsbee played a much tougher schedule, and deserve to not be punished for it in the rankings, but WOS is something like 2-10 against decent/good opponents this season. HJ may not have played as many "good teams", but they still have more quality wins.
Well, maybe one or two more quality wins ::) just don't get it for right now. I guess TABC read this forum. ;D
TABC know's the deal! ;) :D
But, then again, none of that will matter when playoff time comes, right? -

But that was the sloppiest I have ever seen them play
Well, then, Freeze, that is good news because they beat an athletic team (the kind you say they cant beat ) with their leading scorer being ill and their other leading scorer missing the last two minutes by fouling out and, in general, they played sloppy. And one more thing, cross country made a difference in the last couple of minutes last night.
They beat WOS. You honestly think they can beat Silsbee the way they played. WOS athleticism not even close to what Silsbee bringing
We will find out on Feb 8. You obviously missed my point. You can take a positive from a win when play was so sloppy against an athletic team.
