1. He is interested but I have been told LU would ultimately not give him the job because he has a DWI.  I found this very interesting.
 2.
"Many think Cross, now 27, should be the next coach at Lamar University, a struggling Division I program in the Southland Conference." Quote from the Bmt Enterprise! My my how we have fallen!!!  When I went and looked at the list on the link to the sports info website we only had 3 candidates listed.  Florida Gulf Coast, a program I have never heard of had about 20-25 and there were some very recognizable names on it.  10-15 years ago we would have been attracting that kind of interest but after 20+ years of bad hires and a revolving door, we have fallen on hard times in attracting a large selection of quality candidates.  We don't have may more chances to get this right.  I hope Dr. Simmons and Tidwell understand this.
They only list three because those are the only ones that they know of and it is total speculation.  There is ALOT of interest in this job and you can believe that.
 3.
People were throwing out big names for the football HC position and Lamar hired Woodard.  I bet they do the same for Cross.  I'd be for it.  Lamar's not going to pay big bucks for a name coach anyway unless they hire some over the hill retread that goes through the motions.  At least everyone seems to agree the Cross knows how to coach.
I just think it would be a totally out of the box move for this university.  My first choice remains Glyn Ciprien but if we cannot hire him than I am all for Matt Cross.
 4. I have no reasoning behind this but would love to see this kid get a shot.  I don't know why but I have a good feeling about him.  It would be totally different from what Lamar has done in the past.  That would be a good thing in its self.
 5.
Wait till the recruits see Dupont behind the Montagne Center :(
Better yet we should bring the recruits through the heart of Hamshire.  That will really sell em ;D
 6. Shockingly enough I have dug a little this morning and it is looking as if Jeff Capel is more than interested in LU.............stay tuned!!!!!!
 7.
First, lets get a coach who doesn't inflate their recruiting class' bio  ::)
yeah we had a few problems with that on the last one didn't we!!!
 8.
Capel can make more money as an assistant at a Major. For those that point to his OU Elite 8 run, don't forget he had the Griffin boys and Willy Warren on that team. Hard to lose many games with that trio. Cyprien looks like a pretty good candidate, but I really want someone with winning HC experience at the college level, wether it be JC, DII or other.
I continue to hear people saying the things you said about Capel.  It blows my mind how much credit they have taken away from him.  He recruited Blake Griffin and Willy Warren.  So does he not get credit??  Who couldn't win with Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler, and the Plumley guys..........does that make Coach K an average coach.  Every coach in the nation who wins has great players.  He also had two of the best recruiting classes in the nation and had two players jump ship at the last second.  Lamar would be dang lucky to have Jeff Capel.  I will be shocked if it happens.
 9. I to believe that we should hire the best available candidate.  I think there will be several opportunities to hire a minority and I think that will happen. Just my belief.  I have not hear that capel is involved at all.  I do know that we are interested in him but not sure the feeling is mutual.  Cannot imagine him taking this job.  Nothing against Lamar but his FIRST head coaching was at a school that is much bigger on a basketball scale than Lamar in VCU.  He was very successful there and hell he was very successful at Oklahoma in my opinion.  I understand the Tubbs connection buy Capel has to be very careful in choosing his next head coaching job because if he fails there it may be the end of the road for him as a head coach.  I would not be shocked to see him as a top assistant at a major program or back at somewhere comparable to VCU.  Lamar.............I just don't see it.  I would love it.  I am going to dig a little today and I will let you guys know.
 10.
I think he gets to retire when he wants to retire. He is a legend in baseball and we need to treat him as such. The Gilligan era will be over soon enough and it will be hard to replace a legend.
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!
 11. Cyprien is african american as well.  I also think it is time for a minority head  coach.
 12. Glenn Cyprien is great for LU.  He is not a head coach because he had a misstep and we would be taking a chance on him but we would be lucky to have a guy who has all of the connections he has plus he is a great x and o guy.  With that said I am not against Matt Cross at all.
 13.

No really. HJ should go undefeated next year in district. Prudhomme district MVP. Its Silsbee turn to "rebuild"
OH wait, I thought Prudomme was a senior?
He is. Next year.
 14. I agree with you guys on Alvin Brooks.  It is just a name that is continuously brought up.  Spanky, you are dead on with Cyprien.  That is exactly what happen.  Everyone makes mistakes though.  I think he would be a steal and turn our program around. JMHO!
 15. Hearing Terry Johnson is interested but the feeling is not mutual.  Not sure if he will be interviewed or not.
 16.
Monarchs teams at Panola were about as fast paced as it gets...He was there when Gil Goodrich was there. They scored over a 100ppg.
He also has the support of his head coach at Marquette Buzz Williams who has big texas ties and has done well at marquette! I looooooooooved gil goodrich.  He was a thug but he could play!!!!
 17. Interesting spanky. Haven't heard his name.  I will have to dig a little. One more name is Willis Wilson who is also an assistant at Memphis.  Former Rice head coach.
 18. I would love Cyprien.  I was around the program alot when he was here and he is an awesome person and a real basketball guy.  He can recruit and he has the x's and o's.  I would love to see him here.
 19. These are not my names yet what I am being told: Alvin Brooks- Associate Head coach at Houston and former Lamar player Scott Monarch - Assistant Coach Marquette. Has worked at a number of Texas JC's (Panola, Tyler, McLennen, and Navarro). Glynn Cyprien - Assistant Coach Memphis. A former Lamar assistant. Has been a high major assistant at Kentucky, Arkansas, UNLV, Oklahoma State, and UNLV. He graduated from Texas-San Antonio.
 20.

Dude you did state TCU and Lamar would be playing a football game in 2011. I don't have time to or care enough to look up your post. You must have forgot I have a few sources in the athletic department myself my round little friend.  ;D ;D ;D
Never said it.......I looked it up on all threads. Now my questions is this........is "your" source the one that said he was staying??  That is what you guys were reporting yesterday? :D :D :D
No, they weren't sure it was 50/50.....You could have deleted it as there have been a lot of threads deleted on this forum.
The roc decision was made quite a while back.  He may of thought it was 50/50 and someone may have told you that but it was done a while back.
 21. We can forget about BCG.  Hearing he will be announced today at Texas Tech!
 22. I have to be honest I don't know much about Matt Cross so I cannot say I am for him but I am definitely not against him.  I know that Tubbs is very high on this young man so we shall see.  Another name that no one wants to hear but I continue to hear that he will indeed be in the mix is Alvin Brooks.  I am not for it but I keep hearing it.
 23. I would be really shocked if he was still around next year.  I say this because of the person who confirmed he was being fired is VERY close to the situation.  We shall see.
 24.
H#!! no. If a coach can't win in the SLC by year 5 he need to be gone. Again we are talking about the SLC who's NCAA tournament team is in a play-in game. Five years is long enough and I have supported Coach Roc from the beginning. If you are going to judge one coach by certain standards then everyone should be judged equally. For one reason or another he didn't get the job done. 7-8 years to win in the SLC in ridiculous. Should a new coach feel the need to win immediately? No, but having a freshman recruiting class and coaching them thru their senior years and adding talent around them is plenty of time. Ronnie Arrow, Bob Marlin, Brooks Thompson and Dave Simmons are a few people who have coached in the SLC and it didn't take 7-8 season to get their teams in to post season play. Lamar has the best resources for MBB in the SLC.
I agree with you and think he is gone but be prepared.  You never know. I also agree with you in saying he should be gone.  He never put the plan in place where you have a good freshman class full of freshman.  It was all jucos all the time. I just feel like the next guy needs to be a non juco recruiter or at least not an only juco recruiter like roc!
 25. That is freaking funny!  I don't care who you are!!!!!
