1. That literally gave me chills.  Love having people like him represent the school I love so much!
 2.
We also have another local player (Silsbee player) who is being recruited by McNeese, SFA, and a couple of other SLC schools, but not Lamar.
shocker
 3.
Again I ask you, who has come out of this area since Gulley that had his skill set and was not being recruited by UT, OU, or the NBA? You can say all you want, but LU is not going to win a recruiting batle with any of those programs for local talent! We signed the Hardeman (I think that was his name) kid from Silsbee a few years back and he bolted after one good freshman season for Tennessee! Bose - NSU - Australia Clavell - SHSU - Puerto Rico Pratt - NWS - NY, NY Gibson - UTSA - Houston P.Richard - MSU - Carencro, LA Kaplan - MSU - Canada Baker - NWS - NY, NY Watt - AMCC - Chicago M.Johnson - UTSA - Dallas J. Hill - UTSA - Australia This is the list of the top scorers in the league this year. Notice they are all from "afar". Not one home grown talent. Richard would be the closest as Carencro is about 70 miles from LC. UTSA wins the conference and go check their roster, not a lot of kids from SA which has a much larger market than the GT.
No one is saying that every player on the team is going to come locally buddy.  However, when you have one or two local guys on the team it helps support.  I can tell you when Kenyon Spears(who ended up being a very solid player for Lamar) cam to Lamar from HJ there were several people who became interested in Lamar Basketball who otherwise would not have been.  Also, our teams have been total crap for several years and when the likes of  Edward Garriet, Eddie Fobbs,  and the hancocks come back to their hometown and beat the local college while playing for another team withing the same conference it makes me sick.
 4.

How's FBS going for them? It's essentially killed off all their other sports. Many of the sports that they were known for prior to going FBS and even when still in the Southland, have fallen so far off the back of the bus - its embarrassing. They are probably the worst-funded FBS program in America, but guess it's okay since they beat that school in Alabama a few years back.
They get Baylor at home, we get Panhandle st at home.
Yeah that sounds great.  Lets get Baylor at home so we can lose 70-0.  That sound awesome.  Terrible idea for a second year program.  Terrible!
 5.
unlv wont be satified until we get our invite to the big 12  ;D
or until we hire abatemarco!
 6. ESPN just reported on Sportscenter that Pat Knight was coming to Beaumont, Tx.  Pretty cool if you ask me.
 7. This is not a good golf course for Chris.  You have to hook the ball off of every tee and he hits  a very straight ball and sometimes a slight cut.  Notice the guy leading is a left hander who hits a cut.
 8.
Not every time, just 8 of the last 11 to be exact. ;D
LOL!!!!!!

I would be happy with any one of the three based on the fact that they have been Head Coaches and just flat out win! Skelton has local D1 experience which in addition to his great track record at the JUCO level is why I have him atop my list. Evans has a long history of winning and some D1 experience so I'd have him second on my list Cross has produced in short stints. The only negatives on him are he hasn't been anywhere long term (he hasn't won at the same place over and over) of course his age has alot to do with that and the other is no D1 experience. I'd love to see him on the LU bench in charge of a defense learning how the NCAA works and possibly taking over 4 or 5 years down the road when the next guy moves on! Could set LU up for 8-10 years.
Most people don't win over and over at that level.  Once you win a couple of times at a school that hasn't won you generally move on.
Most coaches moving up are on average at each school for 4 to 5 years. This prooves that they can sustain the program. Cross hasn't been at any of the three schools for more than two seasons if I am correct??
I see where you are coming from now.
 10.

If Silsbee ever goes 2A then HJ will be 1A!!!!  HJ's numbers are around 600 now.
But are the falling? It seems as those have been the numbers for HJ for several years. Sleepy, I know you were messing with me. You guys always have to throw that stuff in Silsbee fan's faces.
Well hell.  You beat us every time we play.  We gotta have something!!! !LOL!!!
 11.
Was told by an administrator last night that Silsbee's current enrollment is 769. That's down from the 843 turned in for realignment in Oct. '09. This pace, Silsbee could be 2A in 6 years.  ;) ;D
Maybe then they could win it all ;D ;D  Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to easy aggies!!!!!!!!!

 13.
If we had a young team coming back next year I would be all for Cross. But the situation we are in... we have a bunch of seniors that are capable of winning. I'd like a coach with a little more experience to guide this bunch.
We cannot hire a coach based on one year because we have guys returning from a team that could not make the southland conference tournament.  We have to hire who we think will be good over several years.  Sorry.
 14.

I heard last night that Evans was a point guard at OU.  I like that as I believe point guards are typically more successful as coaches than other position players.  Point guards are usually the leader on the floor.  I also like it that he has proven he can win.
Alvin Brooks was a very good PG for Lamar, in my opinion the best since 1976 which is my years of watching LU.  It didn't trancend into success as a head coach so far for him.  Not disagreeing that there is something to what you are saying, just that it is not a guarantee.  That said, unless someone else comes into the mix, I am leaning toward Terry Evans as the new coach.  My next three, in no particular order are Cross, Cyprien & Skelton but I would consider Sean Sutton if I knew his problems were behind him.  Not sure why Scott Monarch is not getting more consideration and disappointed that others like Richard Patino are not interested.
Also dissapointed that Monarch is not getting more consideration.
 15. I would be happy with either one but would personally choose cyprien.  Not that it matters what I think!
 16.
I seriously doubt Lamar will hire Abatemarco. I think Cyprien isn't getting enough mention. It should be noted he has a good friend(s) that work in the AD. I also keep hearing that LU is leaning toward hiring a minority coach.
I can assure you he will get full consideration and you are right about his friend.  I didn't want to be the one to let that cat out of the bag.
 17. It was not a DWI.  It was felony drug charges he had placed against him. That is what is causing this.  Although he agreed to a plea deal and as long as he stays clean through 2013 he will have no felony on record this is what is keeping him from getting this job.
 18.
If Bubba Skelton wants the job, I think it ought to be his. He's been a sucessful coach at the Juco level, he was a good assistant here, he brought in most of the good players that Lamar has had over the past 5 years. I was worried that he wouldn't want the job because of his relationship with Roc, but since he's applied, I think it should be his job.
Support skelton all you want but saying that he brought most of the good players in over the last 5 years is not why we should hire him because there werent that many that good and the records prove it.
 19. I was actually just told that Sutton has met with Simmons in the last few days.
 20. So we have a guy in Pat Knight who is fresh of a stint at one of the Largest institutions in Texas interested.  Rodney Terry the top assistant at Texas interested.  Glen Cyprien who is one of the top assistants in the country.  These guys are every bit as big named as anyone we have ever hired.  That is my point.
 21.

Update on coaching applicants from PA News.      I hope they aren't really interested in Pat Knight.  There are a few encouraging applicants on the list. [Hidden Content]
I hate to tell you but this is not a list of who's who of available applicants.  Cross is good and maybe skelton and Cyprien are good, but when you look at the other jobs open you see all the real top flight assistants are on their lists and they are not on LU's.  20 years ago a lot of those guys would have been pursuing the Cardinal job.  Look at the records of the guys who have had head D-1 coaching experience.  What does that tell you?  Steve Green has a really good record and I remember him on Foster's staff.  I wonder why he has not gotten a  4 year head coach job yet.
20 years ago???  Do you remember the guys we have hired for the last 20 years.  They have not been top flight assistants.  Tubbs and Foster are the only two coaches with real success from Lamar and neither were big names when they got the job nor have we ever had big names apply.  It is a fact of life.
 22. If LU hires back Abatemarco they have literally lost their minds!
 23. Interesting that that is West's list.  I was told that the DWI will literally cost him the job.  This came from Sean's mouth.
