I agree with all you said except that. Don't misinterpret some over-the-top vocalizations from a few posters here on this forum as a proxy for the whole Crosby fanbase. When things went south for them this year their fans to some degree abandoned them. I saw that when I watched some district games online. After they lost to BH and KW back to back a lot of their fans didn't show up in Port Arthur, for example. Also last year after they lost in playoffs to Liberty Hill a few of their fans had a melt down in the parking lot and loudly said some horrible things about their own team. It was not nice.

that's pretty sad. they seemed to have a really big following the last few years.  Guess we shouldn't expect many fans if we play.

I really didn't see 6 or 7 dropped interceptions? I saw Nelson and one of the other dbs drop one but the others looked like plays that just weren't made. I thought that sophomore QB from Lancaster played well against LV, 19-32 for 206 with one TD 0 ints and 88 rushing yards. If any of his other receivers besides #0 could catch they probably leave Lobo Stadium with a win. LV was fortunate Lancaster sucks in the kicking game too. You don't win many when your QB goes 4-10 for 70 yards with one TD and two picks. LV also got a break on the TD he threw to Hale because either the LT/TE on that side wasn't set before the ball was snapped. To your point though, good teams prevail even despite those issues.

I think part of the reason we've looked so bad on the o-line this year is because the receivers have been banged up, meaning you can just play a bunch of guys in the box and confuse the linemen as to what their assignments should be. The receivers have been getting healthier in recent weeks which is why I think we've thrown for nearly 1,000 yards and 12 tds with 0 ints over the last three games. As far as blocking LV I think y'all have to commit personnel to the box for that to be an issue. LV doesn't have a Kam Bizor or Dylan Spencer like CE King did that could dominate individual matchups and they don't have the speed like the like the FB Marshall kids on the d-line committed to Baylor and TCU. What they do have is a great back end that buys time for kids like Billy Smith who's probably an average player at 90% of schools in the state but great in LV's scheme. All in all I think Crosby will be ok on offense if we can throw the ball accurately to open receivers while avoiding turnovers and penalties.

Crosby struggles with the veer/slot-t type run games, not really your typical spread run game. LV runs the ball from a spread pretty often but when they don't they're usually running power and zone out of a pro set. The one play Crosby struggles with out of that set is the counter and LV doesn't really run it, or at least not in the Lancaster and Tyler games I've watched so far. I think Crosby will load the box and try to make Allen beat us with his arm. Hopefully we can pick him off a time or two like Lancaster did when he tries to force it to Hale.

Like I've already said, we could come up there and get crop dusted from whistle to whistle but I could also see Crosby coming up there and dropping 30+ on LV and having them on the ropes in the second half. I guess that's why we have to line it up though.

I guess you had to be there live to see it.  Most of them were honestly dead drops, it got comical there at the end. The plays for either side went back and forth in that game as I would have expected. So the woulda, coulda, shoulda goes both ways. Longview coaches have at times this year called set pass plays with 1 option.  That has drastically changed in the last few weeks. When our QB is allowed options, it doesn't end well for the opposing defense, but we will see.

Outside a few posters, Lancaster doesn't get the props they deserve because of the 2 losses, but whoever gets them will find out.

It's also pretty worthless to argue at this point about the strength of our d-line and front seven. Most people have significantly underestimated them this year. And when their all world offense can't block them or run on them, they change their tune.

Like I said, I know Crosby isn't scared and I have waited for this matchup. I hope all of the right games fall into place to see this one happen.

TBF if any team was gonna finish 4th and then beat Longview it's Crosby. We will be extreme dogs in that game tho.

I think that is fair. A Crosby team that is healthy, can minimize mistakes, and play on the level that was predicted at the start of the year has a solid chance to be competitive when they come to Lobo. One thing is for certain, either Lobo fans have been living in a bubble this year or Crosby fans will be a little surprised when we play.

No disrespect to the rest of the talented teams in 8-5A, this is the matchup I have been looking for. Two rabid fan bases and two solid programs. I hope it plays out that we will see each other next week.

It is what it is. If there was anybody from this district that had a chance to make a game of it with Longview it was back then and still is Crosby. One sentiment I can relay to you coming from the kids and staff is that nobody is scared. We’re also relatively healthy now. Still may get blown out considering how we’ve played to date but we’ll still be there at kickoff.

I’ve watched the Lancaster vs Longview game 2.5 times so far and I would go so far as to say Lancaster would be the tougher matchup for Crosby because of their team speed. I looked up all the players in LV’s lineup while watching the game and noticed they’re pretty much the same size as Crosby outside of WR meaning we can probably avoid a CE King type situation. They’re just well coached with a bunch of good football players.

Not too long ago our DC was the DC at Marshall so he’s seen LV’s offense a few times. Hopefully the injuries benefit Crosby in the sense that most of our film from this year is useless. I think there’s a good chance Crosby goes out to East Texas and plays their best game of the year if that’s the matchup we end up with.

I was wondering when you would show up again, lol.

I actually agree with you that the best matchup out of your district is and has been a healthy Crosby.  A Crosby team that is just getting healthy and a few games to gel is a recipe for a really good 1st round game.  The Lancaster game was a great game and showed us several things to work on. The only thing you can’t be blind to in that game is the 6 or 7 interceptions that Longview dropped.  That won’t happen again.  Lancaster’s defense is elite and probably the best or at least top 2 in Texas in D1 but Longview prevailed. The thing Crosby better be able to do is learn to stop the run and fix your offensive line.  If you can’t stop the run or block our defense, the game will honestly be over in the first half.  I honestly don’t see that happening. I expect a solid game with Longview winning by 3 scores.

  5. This game is honestly for more than just the district championship. It has same implications that the Longview-Lancaster game did.  The winner gets a much easier road the first two rounds of the playoffs.  The loser gets dropped in the fryer from the jump on the hellacious side of the bracket in Region 2.

As long as the PAM defense plays with intensity, I think they take this by 10+

  6. I am very interested to see how this game plays out. We could most definitely see the winner of this game in the third round if we both make it that far.  So would definitely like some insight in how you guys seeing this play out.  All I have is what I can watch online.

BH - not as athletic as most teams they play but fundamentally sound on offense and defense and put their more athletic players in good position to do damage. I like their overall offensive scheme. Looks similar to McKinney North and Magnolia. Do you guys always play with a 3 down lineman on defense?

PAM - athletic and solid talent all over the field, doesn't seem to be as disciplined in overall play.  Has trouble with dynamic offensive schemes. right or wrong?

Yes its fun to look and think about all of this but lots more clarity will come very soon. Too much ambiguity at this point.

Definitely is fun to look at and think about.  I find myself looking at the potential matchups as we get later into the season.  His analysis makes that much easier.  The potential 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round matchups give me something to over analyze.  We have to take care of district first and then the 1st round but still fun to look into.

Either way we're splitting hairs but I have to disagree with you on this one. I didn't think DR had a bunch of depth last year either. The way they play guys somewhat mitigates their depth issues if you can really call them that. DR make their hay on the defensive side of the ball and I think they're the most loaded team in the class on defense. They have the best ILB in the entire country, Marquice Hill and Tre Bates both have major FBS offers on the defensive line, Chance Rucker just committed to Michigan State to play corner and Kaden Kelly has an FBS offer at safety. If they're healthy their defense probably doesn't take much of a step back if any at all? I think DR is a little thinner on offense but their RB, who I think is a little more hype than substance, just committed to OU, Davis is going to pick up more FBS offers at QB and they return their leading receiver from last year. Depth may truly become an issue but you have to get past those guys first.

Longview is very talented but outside of Jalen Hale and the receiving core what other position group would you give the nod to Longview over DR in? O-line possibly? I also think Longview has more talent in their incoming junior class than the incoming senior class does. The '24s at Longview have just as many if not more offers than the '23s do already.  They also have to replace a pretty solid QB while DR bring their back. Again, splitting hairs but I just felt like DR probably should've gotten the nod.

As a Lobo fan, I tend to agree more that Longview should not have the nod over 1-2 possibly 3 other teams for the number one spot.  My reasons are pretty simple:

O-line: I know we return a lot but are on the smaller side.  That is not historically a problem for Longview to have smaller O-line because they are masters of using strength and leverage to their advantage.  That has definitely not been the case the last two years.  If that changes and they get back to true form, they will be a force.

QB: Potential starter - Great kid, hard worker, completely committed to his team/program.  His skillset the two previous years underwhelmed but he has looked his best this spring and qualifying for the state 7 on 7.  How he plays this fall will be the key...doesn't have to be a world beater but has to cut down on the mistakes in a major way.

Games versus elite teams: As previously mentioned we are 0-5 the last 2 years against the best (elite) teams on our schedule.  Until we can get over that hump, it is a wait and see for me.

I personally think that Lonestar-Crosby-Longview will be the Region 2 favorites.  The biggest issue for both Longview and Crosby will be their really weak schedules.  I think Longview has 2 solid teams on its schedule and Crosby 1-2.  That could be an issue for both teams once the playoffs start.

Going to be a great season.  Can't wait to see what happens.

Y’all have a lot of talent. Way more than Crosby and should walk through the region. The last thing we are down here is worried though.  I mean, y’all already finished second to us once:

This is the hidden content, please

That was a fantastic race.  Sure Longview has some talent...everyone else does as well.  We are a mid level program, not a real threat, so you don't have anything to worry about.  I mean, its not like we are Carthage or Liberty Hill.

As far as R2 goes, if anyone thinks they are going to walk through this region, they will be in for a rude awakening.  There is more consistent talent in this region than not.  Lots of athletic teams with good size.  Going to be fun.  Good luck to you guys.
