1. Way to make me cry first thing Tuesday morning!!!  Incredible!!!  What a great group of kids to do such an admirable thing..God bless 'em!
2. Our children are blessings straight from God.  Good reminder Skipper.  I tell both my boys I love them every day. ( And sometimes they even tell me first  :) )  May all your kids be safe this season.  God bless Reggie's family.  God will use #12 to add others to His kingdom.
3. Prayers from Chester.. May God's comfort cover the family and the WOS community
4. 7:30 pm Friday 9/17 at Aubry Bradley Stadium Expect hard playing from the Yellow Jacket team this Friday.  Coach has implemented some new plays and the boys really took to them last Friday against Tomball Homeschool and looked pretty good.  As we have said it is a learning experience, but things seem to be coming together for this team.  Not only is the teamwork showing on the field during play, it is showing on the sidelines as well.  Support, encouragement...great to watch!  They are beginning to look like a 6 man team (from what we have been exposed to thus far anyway..and the Sequin team was good!!)  Fan support has been great as well, even for the 3 hours trips!  It looks like the picks for this week are about evenly spread, but I am going to pull for my home team 'Jackets in this one by 12.  We got two injured players back, although we now have an injured freshman, but I think the boys will fight hard and come out on top.  Good luck 'Jackets!!
5.
Only into the second week, and people are already questioning the refs (not referring to weight, condition, etc. Talking about fairness). I find it crazy that so many people actually think high school refs intentionally "cheat" in football games. This is crazy. Believe it or not...It is possible for someone to be a high school sports fan and actually be able to put their own "bias" on the back burner. I know I do. I love high school football more than I love one team. Not a ref but if I was I can't imagine making a call based on loyalty to my hometown, etc. The fact is, although many of you are loyal fans of your teams, there are actually people (like myself) who are drawn to the Friday Night Lights experience not because of loyalty to a team but because of love of a game. I live in Lumberton and I root for the Raiders but I root for high school football more. And, in the end, I root for the kids--be they Raiders, Pirates, Panthers, Titans, etc. And, in my years of covering high school football I have never met a referee who wasn't cut from the same cloth. These are people who love football more than they love a team. So, while you're rooting for the Raiders or the Pirates or the Indians, these guys are rooting for football. They could care less who wins the game. They just want to be a part of the experience. I can relate to that because I am the same way. I enjoy the game, whether "my" team wins or not. And, 99% of the time I don't have a team in the fight. I'm just there to be a part of it! Are there bad calls? Sure. Are they intentional? I would say 99.9% of the time they are not. But, these guys are humans...not robots. I'm sure all of us make mistakes on the job as well. I know I do. So, to the refs, I applaud you for your contribution to Friday Night Lights. It couldn't happen without you! God bless!
nicely said ...refs always get raw end of deal..they HAVE to love the game to be able to put up with the garbage they do lots of times.  We must all remember we are human and less than perfect.  And although we sometimes think a call changes the outcome of a game, we will never know for sure if that outcome could have been worse and not better than what we would like to think.  Thanks Refs for doing what you do!
6. Someone get me a Qtr Pounder 'cause I'm Luvin It!!  ;D :D
7. Despite the big plays towards the end which spread the score to what it was, the boys really played good Friday night.  It was 39-33 with 7 minutes left in the game, but like I said Mt Carmel made some big plays that resulted in TD's.  The great thing that I heard from the parents themselves after the game was how exciting it was, how well the boys played and how they will get better at this.  We had a good crowd, the fans got excited and I really think the boys had fun.  We can't wait for this Friday! Our Jr High boys begin their play this Thursday at Brazosport Christian.  And let me tell you they are just as excited.  I believe Coach said we ended up with 16 boys for JH, although about half are 6th graders.  But we have some competitors to say the least.  If they don't win a game it won't be from the lack of trying!  Can't wait to watch them too! Thanks to all for the encouragement and good wishes!  Best wishes to each of your teams as well!
8. Well, we came up on the short end but the boys played hard.  I still think that we can compete, we will just have to work harder on stopping the big plays.  That's the only thing we didn't do right in this game.  Other than that the boys looked really good.  Can't wait til next Friday.  With 7 minutes left we were only down a touchdown, MC 39 Chester 33,  final score Mt. Carmel 56 Chester 39.
9.
Great song, captures the feeling perfectly, in fact I think we should nominate this as the site official song.  ;D
I second the motion!
10.
Cfester 42 Houston Mt Carmel  28
I'm going with WordMan2... sixmanfootball.com folks have Chester by 13 so that's a pretty good comparison.  However, we have to remember this is unchartered waters for us.  Plus we have two out with injuries on the line.  But we should have enough speed to hopefully offset that.  Go Jackets!  :D
11. Well said Yeller.  We must never forget it's about our kids and not us.  I agree with what you say and I add that I pray for God's continued guidance and protection over "our" kids and "your" kids..in reality all His kids.  Each one is a blessing from Him and we should never forget that. Best wishes to all the teams this year.  Stay safe and have FUN!!!  It's finally FOOTBALL SEASON!!!  Yeah Baby!!  :D :D
12.

This Friday probly ok but all you guys knows what happens in September around here. >:(
You are refrained from making another comment like that! ;D
No doubt...Yikes!!
13. [Hidden Content] see beginning page 7....can use 6th grade IF it is 1a school and there aren't more 7th/8th grade players surpassing minimum requirements for particular sport.
14. Chester scored 5 times on Karnack, one score on an interception.  :)  Kids seem to be catching on to the new game.  Conditioning greatly improved over the past week.  Coach has been pushing them hard. Karnack did not score until the very last play of the scrimmage. Big boost to the defensive side of the ball.  Did great job on 3rd & 4th downs all night.  Gave up a couple of big runs here and there, but come back after and held tight. Tanner Neal and Jacob Lowery both looked great last night and are becoming real leaders on the team.  Smallest guys on the field and neither are afraid to run over a blocker. Can't wait until opening night at home next Friday against Mt. Carmel.  Should be exciting. Go 'Jackets!
15. Chester 3 Apple Springs 2 This young team continues to improve.  Exciting future for CISD's girls program.
16.
Has anyone heard if Chester is going to have a 6-man jr high football team this year?
The jr hi schedule is not final to my current knowledge as of today, but we do expect to play.  Final schedule may not be ready until school starts.
17.
Good stuff but my fav movie is Facing The Giants followed by the Blind Side ;)
facing the giants is also my fave..but this video is also a must-see.  Good stuff.
18. Very well stated CoachKfan..Life's choices are not always easy, but we do have to make them.  School districts spend many dollars on these programs and it takes commitment from both coaches and players to build a successful program.  I am a firm believer of keeping kids involved in extracurricular activities, but when they conflict you really must decide which one you will commit to.  Coaches (whether school or select) must have commitment from their players to effectively manage their teams.  Now where I would expect a coach to work with a player is when a sport is wrapping up at the end of the season and another starts.  We deal with that in the smaller schools to a large degree within the school sports themselves, i.e. volleyball to basketball, basketball to softball, football to basketball, etc.  But even if you throw in a select sport like softball and it wraps up at the time that volleyball starts, if the player is only going to miss a couple of practices, what would either party benefit by parting ways?  Now of course if they overlap by weeks, then the player needs to make a choice.  The player (and parents) should be responsible enough to have knowledge about their leagues and their schools to know beforehand if it could be a problem.  But if it's only a couple of practices, an athlete can make that up along the way and most coaches I know would work with the athlete unless it was something habitual.  It is a delicate subject and I really hope we don't see a significant trend of athletes choosing select ball over their school colors.
19. Well, guys..we are good to go.  Also have two scrimmages scheduled to get it kicked off.  Should be an exciting time!  I'm very optimistic that our community will stand behind these boys and embrace this game.  We may have a couple of die hard traditionalists that won't accept the change, but we'll get through it.  I appreciate the effort our coaches have put into this..they've done an outstanding job pulling this together.  I'm confident the boys will respond to these guys and we'll have a great time.  Two-a-days start 7am Monday!  Bring on Friday Night Lights...Bleed Purple!!! ;D
20. No disrespect was intended. Chester good luck in 6-man. I think yall will do well. It was only my opinion. I also grew up in a small town and there was always kids that did not go out for football, I believe because there was no communication or a positive role model pushing them. People just let them be floaters, and maybe because we already had 50 players. In Chesters case they need everyone playing ball, even the floaters. Just curious, what is Chesters population?
No harm done..city limit sign: Pop 265.  At student count in Oct CISD had 59 in Hi School.  26 boys..have since lost a couple more boys.  Our athletes are encouraged to participate.  We have had excellent leadership in that respect for the past few years.  And with our new staff that bar has not been lowered in the least.  Started out with 13 dedicated to play.  Should have about 14-15 right now.  The choice to move to 6 man was a look into our future.  We will gain no more bodies with next years freshman class, basically just replacing the seniors..and will have fewer the next year and the year after that.  Right now cannot field 10 players for jr high unless we had some move in which in itself is very unlikely.  And that's dipping into the 6 grade class too.  You have to go down to 5th grade to get sizable amount of incoming freshmen which is another 4 years down the road.  So if we played 11 man this year our jr high kids would have no program.  Our hi school program would stay on edge praying for zero injuries and no mess ups on report cards.  Six man is our best option for our kids across the board at this time.  I consider it a blessing to even have this option seeing what our numbers look like the next few years.  So I hope our kids fall in love with the game as well as our fans and we all look at it as a positive thing for our kids and our community.  Optimism is always much better than pessimism. Actually I overlooked 2 6 grade boys, so we could maybe have 12 for jr hi.  But still not a good situation to put our little guys in having all of them playing both ways the entire game
21.
Chester should let their kids play regular 11-man football. It is special and the kids have a right to enjoy it. Use the same energy yall are using for joining 6-man, into finding and encouraging kids to play 11-man football. Their is always kids that are not playing, get them out there. Chester should be able to muster up 20 kids to play 11-man football. Then just play the kids both ways like all 1A and 2A teams do. Forget all that traveling to Africa to play 6-man !!
My goodness H-D...you know so much about our community and our kids.  ???  This doesn't even deserve a response. Seriously.
22. Final schedule will be distributed Thursday.  As for the rumor..you know how rumors go.  Chester is looking at 2 scrimmages at home, 3 regular games at home and 5 games away unless something has changed in the last few days.  We'll know for sure tomorrow.  ;D
23. Rebel Yeller:  Cost and quality are always, always subjects that are discussed in our district.  With 182 students K-12 would you expect any less?  However, we always strive to insure that our kids are not slighted in the classroom or on the field/court.  And with the Lord's help we have always been able to provide for our kids.  We do not anticipate losing the decades-long tradition of 11-man football any time soon.  And even though our numbers are expected to be down for the next year or two, don't think for a moment that our boys will not try to work hard to compete.  Fear is NOT in our vocabulary.  Thanks justryansmom for noting that character trait in our boys.  I can't say that I have seen a community where the kids have such big hearts.  And we've been seeing it more and more in recent years.  And the blessing in it all is that our kids don't just have a heart on the field, they have it off the field as well.  It doesn't just stop with the high school kids either, nor with just the boys.  We have a great bunch of girls and kids coming through Jr. High that I expect to see the same character traits as well. And for our High Island friends, when you see the inexcusable comments by know-nothing critics of high school kids (read the Beaumont Enterprise) just know that it doesn't come from anyone who knows either team.  Why slam kids???  What a blessing to know that both sides gathered for prayer on that field that night.  That just does not reflect a group of boys out to hurt others. Thanks to all who have prayed for our kids and our community.  May God bless you in all you do!  Yellowjacket Mom
