The hire has the approval of both Ira and Jacob Brooks. They both have stated they will be staying on as assistants.
Would they really say anything else if they wanted to keep their jobs. . Lol

I did learn that a very significant area coach interviewed for this position.
I highly doubt he will take the job, but did interview.
Why would he not take the job. Is he at a better school now?

We all heard that but I would have to hear him say he did,and if so then I would know why he did…just to see the boom and be able to say y’all wanted me gone huh!
T didn’t approve Hickman one way or the other. It was a done deal before the committee was formed. 100% truth.

Solid point
All I’m saying is the downward spiral started 3 years ago and the talent is still there in 4a

Most of those years they had a 1200 enrollment or more.
Now under 700.
Just those numbers say a loss of some talent.
Ok but we are playing school with about same enrollment now. We are not still playing teams with 1200 plus

If you are talking football, then yes. But keep it in perspective. You had two Hall of Fame coaches prior to now. Most would expect a drop.
The fact is WO-S has been spoiled with having two HOF coaches over a 45 year period. Also a very experienced coaching staff over those years, That is something that many many schools dream of.
Welcome to the real world. lol
Ok I agree with u on that but if T would have never left we would not be talking about talent is not there.

It’s funny for 44 years Hooks and Thompson never had a drop off in talent.

I am not saying there is no talent, just not as much these last few years,
From my eye, I honestly believe there has been a drop. Nothing astronomical, but still a drop. Have had others tell me the same.
Ok, has anybody mention we have had a big drop off in coaching or is it just players

He didn't say that..! 🤦🏻♂️
Talent across the board has dropped. That means football too

As most on here know I am all about the numbers. Nothing good about those numbers, particularly the girls sports. 12-89???
Most want to point at the coaching aspect of these numbers (and rightly so). But those numbers also scream lack of talent.
I watch a lot of football and basketball (more basketball than anything) over the last several years and some baseball and softball. (no volleyball). Personally IMO, I have seen a drop in talent at WO-S across the board. I also talk with lot's of area coaches (multiple sports) and many say the same thing about WO-S athletics. The talent has dropped.
Now it ain't all about the athletes though. It's also a fact the experience level on the athletic staff at WO-S is not nearly experienced as it once was. I am talking all sports, not just football. That has a lot to do with the lack of success as well.
The real question is, why are there not highly experienced coaches at WO-S? I think most have an idea as to why but I think it's more than just that.
I think football is getting better. Boys basketball has had its moments over the last couple years as well. But the other sports are certainly struggling, to say the least.
A drop in talent in football is crazy to say. I guess Cornel knew the talent was drying up so he retired. Thats just stupid to think that.

Some stats
Silsbee
rushing 100 yards
passing 278 yards
total 378 yards
Bellville
rushing 36 rushes/86 yards 2.4 per rush WOW
passing 71 yards
total 157 yards
Y’all can use the Chain Gang defense name because WOS sure can’t use that name anymore. 😂

Carthage defensive starters have allowed about 10 yards rushing per game and less than 100 yards passing until the backups come in.
Poor 2nd team always gets the blame.

Was La Vega missing key player when wos played them?

also lest we forget Jasper even to this point has played one the most difficult schedules for sure in the area.
They been blown out by two really good teams and thier 2 wins come against a 0-7 and 1-6 team.

Someone remind me.. is this still the WOS coach everyone wanted fired? If so.. do they still feel that way?
So coming back from 17 points to a 2-4 team is something to be excited about.
