  1. They’re certainly not from the local chapter. I can guarantee you that.
  2. Buna looks good again tonight. They’re looking like the better team. Just need to keep 23 from CH from shooting the 3.
  3. Central Heights beat Buna. Don’t remember the exact score but I think it was by about 35
  4. I just don’t believe this to be true. Whitmire chose to leave. It didn’t have anything to do with any school board member. It may have had something to do with the previous AD, but that’s just a rumor.
  5. Didn’t have anything to do with him. Buna tied the game at 51 with a couple seconds left, clock is running, and the official calls a touch foul on the in bounds with .09 seconds left to give OF free throws. An official should never be the deciding factor in a basketball game. It should’ve went to OT and let the kids sort it out.
  6. I understand your frustration, but let’s not name any particular official. I don’t want this thread to get locked up. It’s been a good place to “vent” after some of these things are happening.
  7. Last night during a girls basketball game, I saw a player (who I know personally) kindly tap an official on the shoulder to ask a question. He put his hand in her face and walked away. After that game I asked her what he said. This is what she told me… ”You can’t talk to me. You need to shut up.” I get at some places these guys are treated bad, and I hate that for them. However, during this particular game, as bad of a job as they were doing hardly a word was said to these guys. Who holds this official accountable? Answer, no one. The kid has every right to ask a question. Especially when they genuinely want an answer so that they can correct themselves. What if the official came to the kid to say something (which happens often), and the kid had the same response the official did? She gets a T, coach most likely removes her from the game, and most coaches are going to make the kid run or something after the next practice.
  8. I shouldn’t say the entire chapter. That’s wrong of me. There are 5-6 of those guys that can flat out ruin a basketball game. It’s not all of them. My apologies for that comment.
  9. Well, back to the Beaumont chapter tonight and right back to really, really bad officiating. Same bad guys over and over. It’s not that they just aren’t good, it that they don’t want to be good.
  10. Agreed. Post man made a great cut and the Anahuac PG made one hell of a pass to him under the basket.
  11. It was really good. They had control of the game from the top to the finish and were consistent throughout. I really didn’t hear many complaints from the stands on either side.
  12. Buna moves to 5-3 in district play
  13. As I’ve said in previous posts, which you clearly didn’t read, I’ve officiated or umpired many games voluntarily at the youth level and they’re just as bad on most days. I do it when I have time to. Also, I don’t currently have a son playing in HS right now which I also mentioned in reference to your “dad” comment.
  14. That’s like saying you shouldn’t be able to criticize a car salesman if you aren’t willing to become one. It’s just silly. I and many others don’t care if officials have another day job. We care about the job they’re doing as officials. I’m not a yeller and screamer at officials during a game. That’s the coach’s job. However, I leave games now more often than ever frustrated at the way a game is officiated. There’s no longer any consistency whatsoever. The post above talked about several rules we should all know. I couldn’t agree more with that part of his post. Although, the officials all call games according to the same rule book, you even see some of the simplest of calls officially drastically different from game to game. It shouldn’t be that way.
  15. No one asked for NCAA officials for Jr high basketball games. My original post is only speaking on high school varsity basketball games. It’s not too much to ask for officials in a varsity game to be competent. As far as “respect” goes we had an official who approached a fan who he thought had been complaining (he had not but it was someone close by this particular man). The official told the man, “If you don’t shut the hell up I’m going to throw your fat ass out of here.” The man told the official, “it wasn’t me” and he was promptly thrown out of the gym. This was a 70+ year old man who was ejected from the gym for nothing. Officials laughing in the face of coaches and refusing to have a discussion with a coach about a call. That’s unprofessional and disrespectful. These things go both ways. Your attitude that any and every official should be able to do an extremely poor job without being questioned is absurd. If I was as poor at my job as some of these guys I’d have been fired years ago.
