2026 AL West Division Champs Astros
myrecordwashorrible replied to baddog's topic in Professional Sports- NFL, NBA, MLB, Etc
If any team is willing to trade for Walker that oganization will expect the Astros to pick up 50% if not more of his salary. Not sure he is movable. Heck, Correa may not be either. -
I think you should tap out sir. This is clearly going over some heads.

Google search: Economists and political analysts generally do not consider the Trump administration's equity investments in private companies to be socialism, though critics and some conservatives characterize the actions as state capitalism, interventionism, or a form of "venture socialism". [1, 2, 3] Why It Is Not Traditionally Defined as Socialism Definition of Socialism: True socialism involves collective or government ownership and centralized control over the means of production, distribution, and pricing (as seen historically in state-run economies). [1, 2] Passive Stakes vs. Control: Administration officials, such as economic advisor Kevin Hassett, argue that acquiring minority shares or passive equity stakes (such as in Intel, MP Materials, or various CHIPS Act recipients) does not mean the government is running the companies or dictating day-to-day business operations. [1, 2, 3] National Security & Market Correction: Supporters—including pieces from the American Enterprise Institute—argue that taking strategic stakes or "golden shares" (such as with U.S. Steel) is a targeted intervention to protect critical supply chains and counter foreign market distortions, rather than replacing free-market capitalism. [1, 2, 3] Why Critics Call It Socialism or State Control Unprecedented Federal Ownership: The administration has expanded federal equity and quasi-equity holdings across dozens of private companies in sectors like tech, mining, and energy. [1, 2] Coercive Levers: Critics from both the left (such as commentators on MS NOW) and libertarian/conservative groups (such as the Cato Institute) argue that conditioning subsidies, permits, or government contracts on handing over equity or demanding leadership changes blurs the line between public and private sectors. [1, 2] State Capitalism: Many analysts classify the model as State Capitalism in America—a hybrid system where private enterprise remains intact, but the state actively picks winners, shapes capital allocation, and exerts political pressure on corporate boardrooms

Thanks for the correction Coach!! 😂😂 Gold looks much better in my opinion

District favorites by most before the season started regardless of who they lost.. Noone should have sympathy for them when every path they've chosen as leaders was looking for the easy way and currently still not working out for them. Bill parcels once said "you are what your record says you are"

This game in particular, BU will need to run the ball a lot better than we have the last few weeks. We know we can throw it all over the field, but you need consistent running game to open up everything. And we also need our top receivers to NOT DROP PASSES. This is key because we need to be scoring points on 80% of our drives and hope we can somehow haul or disrupt at least 1 of their drives. I think this game will come down to a major stop late in the game. Their big RB will be a load, but I think BU has the defense to slow him down some. I just hope our kids realize how much of an opportunity out loss to WB was last Friday and how mandatory it is for us to sneak a win this Friday. -
Not even surrounding. Or even transfers. Look at the numbers to start. 4 or 5 to 1? to start with?
-
I don't think anyone is saying it's a year-in, year-out advantage. Just the probability is a little higher for HH to get a better player from their surrounding schools than some of the schools around SETX.

I guess I can see why people would think we would get a lot of move-ins from those surrounding areas and to be fair there are a few, but I can't imagine it's substantially more than the other schools in the district. Like all school in this district, we have our good years and our bad years. If we had this never ending pool of talent I don't we would have gone 3-7 and then 1-9 only to turn around and go 9-1 and 7-3 the next two years with the exact same coaching staff. Anyways I was just curious why everyone thought that when we clearly aren't lining up with a squad of athletes year end and year out.

My statement was “based on the hype that was given pre season”. Shepherd was talked about and put in the contender discussion and not just by the community but by journalists that cover all of THSFB. Looking at them in that context, yes they’ve underachieved. Now that being said, I do agree with your statement 100%. I am a Shepherd grad and the teams from the past 2 years are hands down better than any team I saw in my 18 years there. There have been several players from various sports come from Shepherd and “make it”. Which is great for the community. Totally agree with your statement about the maroon and gold team as well, also happens to be the team I currently follow. They’ve underachieved year after year with basically the same demographic. To me, it doesn’t seem like sports has ever been a priority on the Prairie. It’s just something they do. That seems to be changing with this new AD and I think the future is brighter for the programs and a community that shows up.

Thats exactly what i specifically was talking about. They won't act like thats not an advantage vs primarily OC schools neither.

I believe the original comment was supposed to be a Houston area school, not a Houston school, and with Huffman being 20-30 (give or take a few minutes) from Atascocita, Crosby, Dayton, and Humble, it means they could potentially get kids from those schools for one reason or another. Again, this is me trying to make heads or tails of what the original post meant.
-
Houston area talent pool. (Harris) county population wise you out number almost every school in this district by a significant margin? Pure guess there on numbers but thats my gist there. Edit: short Google search Harris County has a population of approximately 4.84 to 5.09 million residents, making it vastly larger than Orange County (about 86,500 residents) and Hardin County (about 58,800 residents) combined.
-
I know an entire community who will debate you all day long. I can throw a rock twice from my house and hit the Liberty County line. Are we in Harris County? Yes. Would anyone from Huffman claim to be a Houston area school? Hell no. They'd probably be fighting mad lol. Most folks here live on a minimum of 2-3 acres. That's about as far from "Houston" as it gets. I still haven't heard an explanation as to why this means Huffman should dominate the district in football. But I am genuinely curious to hear it. I look forward to picking the explanation apart.

Anahuac at Orangefield Thursday, District Title
kirkwood29 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
How long has this district been playing on Thursday nights? It seems like they adopted the idea nearly a decade ago? Maybe not quite that long. -
Let's tap the breaks about saying Shepherd is underachieving this year and look at things historically. This current staff has won 1 of the 2 ONLY playoff games ever won in school history. The other time came in the 60's. I don't care if it was when they dropped to 3A...that's a lot of years of existence without a playoff win. Not too long ago, there was an athlete there that played for the Jets and the Steelers, one that I believe is still pitching in the majors, and had one on that team start at Sam Houston and they didn't win a playoff game...even though on paper they should have. Shepherd is one of those places where you rarely see people get out of there (or the surrounding area) and go make something of themselves. What I'm getting at, is when you see Shepherd, you think they should be better than they are. The issue is a community mindset that keeps them from being better at anything than they are. Are there good kids there? Absolutely! Are there good people there? Absolutely! Until you look at the dynamics of what really goes on in there I'd hold off on the underachieving part. There's a maroon and gold school not too far away that, on paper, has better demographics than Shepherd and the same could be said about them underachieving in all things.
-
Does anyone have info on Shepherd live stream? This is the only way i know to follow this game. Audio only.
-
Say louder so the ones in back can hear it! They know who they are.
-
Big difference between a Houston school and Houston area school. 🤷🏾♂️
-
Huffman is absolutely 100% a houston area school. Thats not even a debate To add: Let's not get confused. "Houston school" HISD vs "Houston area" Harris county sure. There a slight difference but population wise its all Houston folk.

Lufkin at Goose Creek Memorial Week 9 Predictions
ltx4ever replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
Does Lufkin make the playoffs? I never thought I’d see Lufkin football down like this. Is it a lack of talent, or is the new coaching staff struggling to get the most out of these kids?
