  1. It has been a long time coming but to be fair up until last year the GCCISD schools didn't even play each other every year. Does seem like a missed opportunity for some revenue and rivalry building for when they are inevitably in the same district in the future.
  2. It would be nice if they balanced the 3 schools and played each other. I figure that would help travel cost as well since all of your sports would have 2 of their opponents across town. The way it is right now with all 3 in different districts is not ideal in my mind. Would make some nice, healthy competition along with some natural rivals. All of those are fun things when your in high school. Maybe that is just a pipe dream though. Lee is smaller in size than Sterling and GCM so maybe the best we can hope for is Sterling and GCM to be the same size and Lee to be the smaller school. We shall see.... It would be interesting to see a district with GCCISD, Barber's Hill, Dayton, and Crosby all playing each other one day, but first things first is GCCISD has to all be in one district.
  3. I agree, but could be different in 5 years. Unfortunately, time catches up to us all at some point and it is probably sooner rather than later for Briles. Coaching kids at any level is not an easy job, but going to an NCAA D1 school will become difficult if he starts feeling his age and is pushing 70.
  4. As a Baylor alum this is an interesting thread to read. I have many opinions on this matter, but feel like my opinions are shaded by my green and gold glasses so I am not going to get into them too much. Just to keep it brief, if the right thing to do was to clean out the football program then it would have also been correct for the Board of Regents to resign and re-elect new ones. Only one of those things happened, and it is a fact that the vast majority of issues were not in football. I, along with many other alumni, remain highly upset with the Board's handling of the situation. The policies they set at the university were more to blame than any one individual or coach at Baylor. Anyway, back to Briles - Remember Briles is 63 years old. He is either going to be at Mount Vernon for a couple of years and jump or he is going to end his career there. Not a lot of 65+ guys taking on a job at a major college considering it normally takes 3 or 4 years to put your system in. It took Briles 3 years to turn Baylor around and that was with RG3 at QB. Also, to note is the NCAA has not ruled on the Baylor/Briles situation yet. If they believe Briles did anything they can slap him with a show-cause penalty which will keep any NCAA institution from hiring him for a period of time. The NCAA is expected to release their ruling on this at some point this summer.
  5. Hopefully they make them the same division. I am not a fan of the Baytown schools not playing each other.
  6. Is mega school actually dead? I thought I read that the board is assigning a committee to study it and bring info back to the board later in the year, but for now they are rezoning because they feel they have to do something.
  7. I am happy Sterling won too, but they did lose to PNG so they are 2-1.
  8. Good info panama. I didn't know they were working on the stadium itself. I thought they were just adding the bus barn.
  9. I guess that is possible, but that work is being done on the away side. Not to mention its not like the Baytown schools are filling up the stadium anymore. Just a really odd scheduling set up this year I guess.
  10. To me that sounds like poor scheduling in both years. I just don't see how there was no way they couldn't have worked out at least one game in Baytown for non-district for Sterling and Memorial. Lee is more restrained as their bye is in the middle of District play so they have 2 weeks to take what they can get, but both Sterling and Memorial have their bye the 4th week of the season. Seems like they could have worked something out to get 1 of the 3 games in Baytown. This year this effects Sterling more than Memorial as Memorial gets to play Lee as a non-district, but if they keep up this scheduling eventually it will bite Memorial as well. Hopefully, the scheduler can work out a mix of home and away in the future.
  11. So, I am not going to pretend I know a lot about scheduling, but I have seen a lot of football over the years. I was making out my yearly spreadsheet and I saw some weird stuff going on with Baytown Sterling's scheduling. Sterling plays all their non-district games away and doesn't play a home game until October 6th. I have never seen that happen before. So I decide to check Memorial's schedule. Other than their game against Lee which has to be in Baytown they don't play a game in Baytown until October 5th. So then I go check out Lee's schedule. Lee only has 2 non-district games and both of them are away (they do have the one against Memorial which is "away" but in Baytown). I understand there is no control over district scheduling so I am not complaining about that, but of the 3 Baytown schools there is only 1 home game in nondistrict and that is when Memorial plays Lee. Whats the deal here? Seems like whoever schedules for Goose Creek ISD is doing a really poor job. Am I missing something here?
  12. They talked about doing that when I was in highschool and had some serious discussions about it right after I graduated. It did not have the public opinion at the time and that led to it being tabled which eventually led to GCM being built. I wonder if it would get more support now. I am shocked they are actually considering it. Seemed to make more sense with 2 high schools, dont know how the split would work with 3 campuses.
  13. Wow, well that is dissapointing. Sterling/Lee was not what it used to be, but I still enjoyed going every year.
  14. Of the 3 Liberty games I have seen this year this was the best. Dominated from start to finish, only 1 fumble, and 1 penalty. Hopefully they can get 1 more win to get another shot at WOS.
  15. Liberty radio guys were wrong then or they counted an extra yard somewhere
