I don't know much about you guys.  How are your basketball/football teams?  Any facility upgrades?  What kind of alumni support do you have?
Your board doesn't seem very happy with Lamar joining. Would they be happier if the WAC lose it's FBS because not enough football schools. I remember USU and Lamar playing a few great games in basketball in the 80's.

You have to understand that it was just a week ago that things were looking really good for USU into the MWC.  A lot of the people over there are still upset about being left out of the MWC and are still delusional about still getting in.  Lamar will be a great addition and as soon as people start to learn more about you guys they'll like the idea.

Our women's basketball team is really good the men's is totally different story right now, and we just recently brought back football last season.

Our basketball teams play in the Montagne Center. There are future plans to add a practice facility and a new scoreboard.

Our football team plays in Provost Umphrey Stadium, as of this moment all I know is that the stadium can be expanded to seat 30k-32k.

We just build a new athletic complex that is first class all the way.

We have plans on renovating our baseball stadium and we are going to be adding softball in the next couple of years so we will be building a new softball stadium as well.

And as for Alumni support, with the addition of football the support for LAMAR is at a all time high. Not only with the alumni but with Beaumont and the greater Beaumont area.

I don't really blame them.  If Lamar indeed does join the WAC then hopefully Tidwell will hire the right coach this time and bring back some great basketball and big crowds.  I can see 6K+ crowds back in the Montagne like in the 1980s against Utah State, La Tech and New Mexico State.

I can understand why they are not to happy with the possibility of LAMAR moving to the WAC, I would feel the same way if we were going to stay in the Southland and they brought up DII schools to replace TSU and UTSA. All we can do is put the best teams we can together and win games. That's the only way you can prove yourself to everybody.

The WAC is not the ideal perfect conference to move back to the highest level of football, yet we don't insult them.
Does USU know Lamar played at the highest level in football before and is the victim of horrible leadership instead of a
a newbie label. The WAC needs 8 FBS teams to remain FBS. So the WAC needs Lamar as much as Lamar needs the WAC.

Based on the info I have received in the last 2 days, consider this a done deal. LU will be a member of the WAC. They will get the invite and will accept. Was told we could get an announcement of this very soon.

AAW, are you hearing any info on funding this move?  Time table to expand the PU stadium?  If you can share some info without compromising your sources please do so?  Have to give LAZEEK some credit.  He was out front on this one.  Hope that the LU community will really rally around this move and propel the athletic program and the University to new heights!

Here's the original drawing of the stadium back in 1964 when it was built showing the stadium bowled in. Now that there's the Montagne Center on the north end and a larger athletic complex on the south end, it limits capacity.

While at the last home game I was looking at how the athletic complex was built and it appears to me it was planned to wrap the seating around over the two lower ends of the building but still have room for seating between the field and the big scoreboard.  On the Montagne Center end there's room for some seating, like at Texas Tech's stadium where one end zone has a few seats between the field and that building.  There's enough room for a 30K to 40K seat stadium along with some big press boxes and suites on each side.

According to what I was told, those "ducks are in a row", but we never talked the logistics of it. I understood that some donors are "waiting in the wings". ;)

They would have to be or it just isn't realistic to be talking this move.  It going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the next few months.

Per TexasTerror: (The Golden Triangle clan is doing their best impersonation of Utah State fan on the MWC board by making it pretty clear they are going WAC. In fact, all the folks in Beaumont are saying on their forums that the rumors are getting louder from 'sources' within the athletic department. )

One of the worst schools? You realize you just caught up with us as far as Carnegie ratings go.  UNLV tried bragging about Lamar being one of 27 schools or so... only to find out SHSU was already waiting around for Lamar to catch up! ;)
Yeah LU fell behind because of poor and greedy leadership, however LU has caught up and is surpassing SHSU.
LU has already caught up in football, FCS, and will soon go FBS. LU is almost caught up and will surpass SHSU in student population.
LU is on track to be an 80 million dollars research University.

    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
    • See why I don't trust my Hogs?
    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
