2.
5 of Lamar's opponents from this year have advanced to Sunday in regionals with Baylor and Mississippi State sitting undefeated in championship games. Baylor Rice Mississippi State San Francisco Texas State
Wow! 5 out of what? 20ish? And they didn't really have a choice against Tx State.
 3.
Lamar's FBS options, if they have any, aren't likely to bring any BCS teams to Beaumont.  I checked this year's Sunbelt schedule.  Of 36 non-conference games, the Sunbelt will host 4 games against BCS teams and 7 against non-BCS FBS schools.  The WAC is even worse.  Forty-one non-conference games, 2 home games against BCS teams, and 8 home games against non-BCS FBS schools.  If you want to play the big boys, you have to give up home games and moving to WAC or Sunbelt isn't going to change that.
Technically, all schools at the FBS level are BCS schools, I think you're confusing BCS-schools with AQ-Conference schools. [Hidden Content]
All 11 conferences in the Football Bowl Subdivision are "BCS conferences." The media and others often misuse this term, using the term "BCS conference" to describe an Automatic Qualifying (AQ) conference.

Actually, 2 years ago, Lamar did have a football team, they just weren't playing any games. Woodard was hired June 2008, so he had all of the 2008-2009 season to get things in order, 2009-2010 to work out a team and get players, and then 2010 was their first year.
So outside of Woodard and a couple early players, there was no program as far as the public could tell.
Nope, but that's the issue, taking that full year off, and being DI eligible the first year, means that programs scheduling Lamar would have had that win (assuming they won of course) count toward their DI total. Unlike Ga. St. who was playing JuCo's their first year because they wouldn't have counted as DI competition. With that said, Woodard SHOULD have been able to get a few more quality opponents since they were a legitimate DI team last year. He was limited in this year because Lamar is part of the SLC, and now play a full slate of DI one opponents in conference play. Again, counting as DI wins, Lamar should have been able to get better opponents win they made their schedule last year (and year before last), and yes, I know some of those were return games for home-and-homes, but Lamar backed out of the USD game (again, DI game), and is now stuck with 2 sub-DI programs on the schedule. Bottom line, Lamar could have done better and at least schedule DI competition, but didn't. They dropped the ball, end of story.
Just reread the enterprise article and quotes.  Did not see anywhere that Woodward said anything about not having high expectations.  The facts are this is not 30 years ago.
He made the "higher expectations" comment during the season when people were saying it's okay that Lamar lost "because they were a new program." He mentioned people should have higher expectations. Before this article no one said a FCS Lamar should bring in FBS. Now follow this up with the stupid act.
Actually there was a post in mid-April that said Lamar should make the Baylor game a home-and-home.  That comes to mind immediately, and I'm sure there has been more.

I still say if you continue with what your playing, that in 3 to 5 years you won't be getting 15k to games IMO.
maybe they schedule pote neches to keep your attention
Talk trash all you want to, I'm just speaking the truth. Love it or hate, I don't care. Why is it that you have to bring Port Neches into it? We probably do have the same attendance for our games as LU, and more in about 3-5 years ;D Blame the Boremont newspaper for bringing the topic up, and blame your coach for telling the fans to quit living in the past. Pretty arrogant statement to make to fans that are suppose to back the new program. You beg for millions to be donated just to have a sub par schedule? I think fans expect alot and fast. I still say I will wait 3-5 years and we'll see. I hope LU goes to the next level and competes. Maybe you can be the ball boy Puddin?
I was thinking the same thing, Woodard has an Abatemarco mouth.
Quit living 30 years ago and have high expectations, those are the first two that come to mind.

Only been a year.
True
To an extent.... People aren't going to keep showing up to watch Lamar beat up on NAIA and DII teams. You have to put at least FCS teams on the field.
 8.
I think many people missed the point because the article isn't well written.  Every FBS conference in the country (including the Sunbelt) has a rule which prohibits any of its members from scheduling a football game as an FCS home game.  No matter what Woodard would like to do, and no matter how much we would pay, neither UL-L, UL-M, Rice, or any other FBS program can schedule football games at FCS schools. It isn't allowed. You play them at their place or you don't play them at all. Period.
BB is right on the money. It's not the pricetag, it's the fact that schools can't come here because they are FBS. Even if the rules wasn't in place, why would Houston come to PUS when they could bring in an FCS school and make more money? The best thing to do is to bring in schools that people THINK are FBS, but aren't. A good one would have been Villanova (even though they're teetering on FBS into the Big East). But bring in a Harvard, Yale, App State, Delaware, etc. It'll cost Lamar a good chunk of change, but at least you're bringing in FCS schools and not NAIA and DII schools.

He clearly says no Texas, Louisiana, or Kentucky school to the WAC I think a Sunbelt door will open soon. Lamar needs to be talking to the Sunbelt while Lamar, SHSU and Jacksonville st are the only options. Other fcs schools could announce FBS intention making the field far more crowded. 11.
I really do not care who the qb is and I will trust the coaching staffs judgement at this time.  The point I was making is if Bevils problem was faith in the line, I don't necessarily believe he will last the full season this year either.  Have no background for JJ to make any judgements by, but until he is proven on the field this is just an open opinion poll and high school bragging rights issue.  Pruitt proved he has what it takes to stand in the pocket and find the reciever, but I am not saying he should be the starter either.  Let them prove it on the field.  We can all second guess the coaches as the season progresses.
+1
 12.
BTW, why would you "hope that I have to eat my words" on this one? You have something against JJ? Do you want him to fail?
No, no. I just hope he doesn't prove me wrong when Sam plays Lamar. I could care less what he does in the other games, in fact, I don't care what ANY QB does this season for Lamar, I hope they all do well..... except when they play Sam  ;D
 13.
So I take it that you don't want to make a wager on this?
No thanks, I don't bet on things I don't have an ounce of control in.
 14.
Of course, there are no guarantees that he will succeed at the college level. But, I am willing to bet you any amount of money that he will be the starting QB for Lamar before the season is over and he will have success. I know what the coaches(LU) and scouts(at camps) have told me personally about JJ. I'll take their word over yours about him any day. ;) My point was that he will not play like Bevil like you stated. He will utilize his athletic skills to make plays, something that Bevil could not do. JJ's 4.38 forty is just the start of his advantage athletically over Bevil and the rest of the QB's. Bevil runs a 4.8. ;) You will soon find out.
I hope you have to eat your words on this one. I'll believe it when I see it though. I'm not impressed by 40 times honestly because football isn't played in a straight line. The fact is, no one has seen him play in a year. I'm sure he was well conditioned at WVU, but those are the only assumptions I can make. Hopefully the DII and NAIA teams will be a good warm-up for him before he gets to the DI competition, and then we'll see how he does (assuming he'll start). Go back and look at old posts on this board and all you see is raves about how athletic Bevil was. Like Geezer said earlier, he may have just gotten  happy feet, there's no guarantee JJ won't be the same way
 15.
LU QB?
I would think it's Prewitt's to lose. Bevil lost it last year with his sloppy play. JJ is an unknown. You know what Prewitt can do on the field against Division I competition.
 16.
I think Bevil got a bad case of what I believe the pros call happy feet.  That is when a qb looses faith in his line to protect him and starts heaving the ball just to get rid of it and avoid the sac or the bruising from all of the hits.  Not standing up for Bevil but there have been many outstanding college qbs fail in the pros for that reason.  David Carr and the Texans are just one example I can think of.
Perhaps one of the best examples too! AAW, JJ has never played a collegiate game, you don't know what he will do. Silsbee high school and the competition in Class 3A are not even close to Lamar football and the SLC. Just because he was successful in HS doesn't mean it will translate to success on the field in college.
 17.
Well just for the topic of conversation what are your thoughts JJWooten? It seemed to me that they went with the Pruit kid from Kelly to end the season last year. Bevil was at wideout so he was obviously healthy enough to play. Just curious what the deal was with that. In the spring game they were rotating all qbs but it seemed like JJ and Bevil took most of the snaps.
I watched a few games last year when they weren't overlapped with Sam games. Bevil was awful. I don't know how he put up such big numbers in those first few games, but after about 3 games, he collapsed. I like Pruit, he seemed to be a good leader. He was calm and controlled and didn't just throw the ball up like Bevil did. JJ seems like he could be a good QB, as long as he doesn't have the same problems Bevil does. A lot of times, kids with big arms like that just throw the ball down field and hope that someone catches it. I think with him being out of the game for a year, plus the little tape I saw on him from his senior year at Silsbee, he may have Bevil Syndrome, but I don't know.
 18.
Your right I'm gonna buy season tickets and RW and his staff are doing fine. Just feel like we saw what Bevil could do last year and it wasnt great. We have a new exciting QB to watch so my fingers are crossed.
Much better  ;) The best players will play.
 19.
Not buying season tickets until RW and staff name a starter. No way I'm watching Bevil lead that offense again.  JJ has to be a bigger threat to a defense?
Wow, 1 season under Woodard's belt and he already has some fans threatening not to purchase season tickets. Cut him some slack, be a true fan and buy the damn tickets. Last I checked, there's 10 other Cardinals on the field regardless of who's playing QB.
 20.
settle down, jj..thats ecbuc bringing in the sfa score...he's so anti lu, dont know why he bothers posting here
Ahhh, I feel like I've seen his posts before, he's the one so proud to be an SFA fan (After they went 0-11 for season of course).
 21.

NWST was REALLY good last year,
SFA beat them 36-13.
SFA beat everyone last year except Texas A&M under Texas State (under a 4th Q collapse). NWST went 4-3 last year in the SLC losing only to SFA & McNeese (the top 2 teams) and a loss to Nicholls. And do we really want to talk about SFA beating them when they beat y'all by much worse in the same season?
 22. I guess the real question is just how good the team around JJ will be. I think we all know JJ has talent, but will the pieces around him be enough to get the job done. Look at Caston down at Nicholls, he is EXTREMELY talented (pretty much single handedly beat TSU in San Marcos in multi OT), but the pieces are sketchy and they are up and down.
 23.
vs. Texas College W at South Alabama L vs. Incarnate Word W at Southeastern Louisiana W vs. Northwestern State W at Texas State Junior College W vs. Central Arkansas (Homecoming) L at Sam Houston State L vs. Stephen F. Austin L at Nicholls ~~W vs. McNeese State W
NWST was REALLY good last year, and Texas State will have about 20 extra players compared to our squads.
 24. These are my best guesses vs. Texas College W at South Alabama L vs. Incarnate Word W at Southeastern Louisiana ~~L vs. Northwestern State W at Texas State L vs. Central Arkansas (Homecoming) L at Sam Houston State L vs. Stephen F. Austin L at Nicholls ~~W vs. McNeese State L So that puts my guess at 4 wins. It'll be a tough road now that you're playing a regular schedule, even with the 2 Sub D-I schools.
