1. This is straight from the SLC:
Lamar can only qualify with a win and a Nicholls loss, forcing a head-to-head or multiple-team 8-8 tiebreaker with the Colonels. Lamar is eliminated in any other 8-8 tie-breakers.
You would both be 8-8, and so would Nicholls, & SELA. Assuming UTSA loses, which you would probably also need because you've split the series with Nicholls and SELA has the advantage. The SLC is supposed to release all the scenarios around noon, but Lamar basically has to win, and have a lot of help.
Nicholls and SELA are both 8-7 and they play each other Saturday so one will be 8-8 after the game.  The tiebreaker rules are confusing but it looks like Lamar would get in over Nicholls due to the fact Lamar would be 1-1 against McNeese while Nicholls is 0-2 against them.
It's against ALL Eastern Division opponents first, and then if they are still tied, then it goes down to record against top teams. So there's 3 spots left, your scenario goes: SELA wins, Lamar wins That puts SELA at 9-7 Lamar and NSU at 8-8 But if UTSA loses, UTA is also 8-8, if UTSA wins, they would be 9-7. It gets really confusing after a while.

 4.
It was an exciting win, there was a lot of electricity in the air, with the Seniors.  But the biggest plus was the loud and rowdy students.  It was nice also to see some football players there too, although they have been there at other games too. We again did lose a big lead and did nearly lose this game.  No defense.
It also helps that TSU-SM, like almost all other teams, have a poor road record. MSU has lost 1 game at home all season, and it was this week to SELA
 5.
While I believe it is time for Roc to go, I won't be surprised to see him get the last year of his contract.  This years team could legitimately have completed this season with only two losses.  In every game, other than Texas and SMU they had a lead (even if it was only one point) in the last five minutes and the majority of the team is back next year.  Two seniors to replace and while both were contributors neither were consistent difference makers.
There line right there sounds like they're not well conditioned.
 6.
Well another thing is JJ Hays wasn't the first WR taken at his position. We are strong there. By the way, he wasn't too happy so I expect he'll have a chip on his shoulder and play great tomorrow.
Or he'll get frustrated trying to prove himself. He does have Bevil on his team, and AB has a narrow focus, so JJH should get plenty of opportunities.
 7.
Look at SE LA, wow.
The beginning of the year always has teams ranked really high in terms of RPI that have no business being ranked so high, the RPI (and other formulaic systems) only work when there are many observations (games played), not just 10, but it's nice to say that you lead the RPI (or top 10) for a few weeks
 8.

Kyle Gilliam was the first player taken, AAW. Just curious why a center was taken first?
You are correct. It was Gilliam. I beleive 8 of the first 10 players taken were offensive linemen.
The gap between the top lineman and the "next set" is HUGE in most programs, but there usually isn't as wide of a gap in other positions.
 9. Mail them to me. I could use some extra scrap to start a fire, or emergency toilet paper.
 10.
Wrong, they may have forgot it but they were told in freshman orientation. Mirabeau B. Lamar.
Not everyone goes to freshman orientation. =)
 11.
Why do we say SFA or SHSU but we don't say MBL?
Because about 1/2 of the students probably don't even know Lamar's first name.
 12.
I hate to say it but winning the SLC is not a prize this year.  Noone is good in SLC play.  And that speaks even worse for LU.
Okay, I've heard this for a few weeks now, and if I was McNeese, this would be a slap in the face. Sam went 16-2 in the SLC last year, and people said we were "storming through the SLC" and "Dominating almost everybody in the SLC." We have two teams right now sitting at 10-4, and McNeese would mostly likely  finish the year at 12-4. That's pretty damn good.
 13.
JJ, that is what I meant as I got my east and west confused. Kind of like going left when you are suppost to go right.  :D :D
It's all good! If it's any consolation, I see TSU-SM losing both their next games (to you, then us), which would give SFA the West (assuming they win 1 of the next two, which I have them doing as well).
 14.

Sgt Rey, I've noticed you post time to time on the Lamar board. What is you connection with LU? Is Bruce thinking of coming to Lamar? I think he would be a great addititon to the Cardinal program as he is a very talented athlete and obviously has leadership skills. A couple of people were asking what Bruce's plans for college were so I thought I'd go ahead and ask point blank. Forgive me, if you take it as being rude. I and a few others were just wondering about your son's future plans.
I have no connection...I attended Lamar before going in to the Marine Corps....Lamar was talking about offering Jr last Spring...but it didn't happen.......I understand it is difficult to entertain 6 QB's on a roster....he would love to walk on, but doesn't seem to be in the radar for even that... One coach told me that it's a risk going after Jr...because they do not know if he will perform at the same level as he did in HS.....you know what?  THE ENTIRE WB DEFENSE WILL BE PLAYING COLLEGE FOOTBALL SOMEWHERE(the last one committed yesterday to UT)....you can say he has been practicing against college level talent for 2 yrs....yeah he's "Fivey" (5' 11").... Bruce's Sophomore yr in HS he was asked to play WR....to this day, I think he could have come on to the scene a bit earlier...I think he could have challenged for the QB spot as a sophomore! just my opinion...Deja VU? Jr has a couple of offers from D2 schools, D3 (academic), Jr College, NAIA...(All want him as a QB)..but he wants to wait til after Lamar's Spring Game to see if they would take him as a "Considered Walk On"...but If they don't want him, he doesn't want to force the issue(try out with out being considered)...I don't think they would give him an opportunity to compete...DEJA VU...again... 8)
Rey, sounds to me like the best option would be to go the JuCo route in the hopes you can catch a few eyes. To my knowledge, you don't see a lot of outstanding DII talent moving up to DI. What I see around this area is DI talent going to a JuCo, transferring to DI, and then if issues come up, going down to DII. I think if he can shine at a JuCo somewhere, then he'll get a call in two years to try out somewhere. Best of luck to your son!
 15. Both of you are wrong, they're leading the Western Divisions, not the eastern. McNeese leads the Eastern Division.
 16.
Coach Ray Woodard said no quarterback had taken command of the starting quarterback competition before Saturday, but Bevil appeared to take a big step toward being the man once again. Bevil will need to cut down on turnovers if he wants to keep the job. He threw 14 interceptions and lost six fumbles last season.
If you ask me, and just about every Cardinal fan, he did lose his job to Prewitt in the middle of the season last year. Yes, Bevil looks better in practice because no one is really gunning for him like in gametime situations. If Bevil starts day one, expect another long season.
 17.
LU loses
I disagree, I actually think you guys can pull this one off. TSU-SM is 3-7 on the road this year, and only has a +1 scoring margin (for the year) in their favor, while you guys are 7-5 at home with a +7 on the year. Their only road wins for the year are at TAMU-CC (8-21), UCA (5-22), and UT-PA (5-23).
 18.
Unless you are schduling Top 25 programs which we have every year Coach Tidwell has been here you are taking a chance in WBB. Because there are a number of reasons a team could be good one season a terrible the next. See Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Doesn't eveyone in the SLC schedule a couple of non DI games?
Most likely, some more than others. It's all about that extra home game.
 19.
You nailed it with your last statement. Only 4 SLC teams have a winning record and since they are in conference we don't have a choice. We must play the SLC conference schedule. Some of those "bad teams" you listed would do pretty good in the SLC.
Perhaps, I mean, even Sam lost to HBU  :-[ :-[ At the end of it all though, if you're "stuck" in the SLC, then you have to focus on the OOC scheduling, and playing two Sub-DI schools adds nothing to your record, and beating up bad teams doesn't help.
If only your winning percentage mattered, than teams would schedule cupcakes all year long. That's why 50% of the score comes from your opponents winning percentage, it means to be at the top you have to beat teams that are good, you can't get by with wins against Wiley College.
Actually, the women had a pretty good schedule. [Hidden Content]
Are you sure? Wins against bad & Average teams: Utah State 6-20 Valpo 7-22 HBU 3-22 Portland 15-14 UMKC 14-14 Good Teams: Cal Poly 16-10 Southern 17-9 Rice 17-11 Houston 24-4 And only 4 other teams in the SLC are above .500 for the season. The wins against the good teams, are great, but for RPI sakes, there's not enough of them.
