USU lost as a 12 seed over a good 5 team.
What is your point with this statement? USU got a better seed, last I heard its better to get a higher seed in the NCAA tournament.
Yea, that's what I'm saying. The BEST team in the WAC went 30-4 losing only 1 conference game and the best seed they got was a 12 seed.
 2. At the end of the day, WAC and SLC both had one school in the tourney, both schools lost. At least UTSA lost to #1 seed, and a top team overall. USU lost as a 12 seed over a good 5 team.
 3.
Without the SLC tourney then no conference games would be on ESPN.  Besides, if the best team in the SLC can't win the conference tourney then I doubt they will be able to win a game in the NCAA tourney.  The SLC is a weak basketball conference so it really doesn't matter what they do.
Before anyone jumps on the WAC bandwagon, just know that the Weak A$$ Conference isn't any better at basketball. Their start team, Utah State (who went 30-4 over the season) landed the WAC's only bid to the NCAA tournament at a 13 seed and got to lose to Kansas State in the 1st round (well, technically second if you ask the NCAA). Let's just say SLC basketball isn't the only bad basketball conference.
 4.
The same percentage as every area in Texas except Austin and College Station.
And it's roughly 19,700 more members than Katfans. I'll go ahead and ZING myself on that one.
 5.
SETXsports just reached 20,000 members today!!!!!!! What a great milestone. 20,000 members in just over 5 years! AWESOME!!!! CONGRATS SETXsports!!!!!!!
And how many of those participate in Lamar athletics and how many care more about HS football?  ;D ;D
 6.
Guys - can we please learn how to read? Someone already posted it! You are giving Texas higher education a bad name... ;)
Selecting Teams The WNIT committee will choose 64 teams for its 2011 Postseason WNIT. The field will consist of 31 automatic berths – one from each established conference – and 33 at-large teams. The intention of the WNIT Selection Committee is to select the 33 best available at-large teams in the nation.
Even the SWAC guys get it - one team from every conference! It goes in pecking order, so if the No. 1 team from a league (i.e. McNeese) is in the NCAAs, we go to No. 2 which in this case is Lamar. How hard is it?
I never knew! That's pretty cool. Too bad the Men's NIT wasn't as fair!  ;) I hope Beaumont gets to host a game, that'll be good for the area, the conference, and especially the ladies.
 7.
No it isn't. We are in. The 2 seed automatically gets the birth if the 1 seed in the conference gets the NCAA tourney bid.
Perhaps the men's is different, because I was under the impression that the only auto-bid a league gets is if the regular season champion doesn't win their conference championship (and therefor doesn't go to  the NCAA tournament). I know that last year, Sam won the regular season and the tourney, so they weren't eligible. #2 seed, SFA would have been the auto-bid according to your prediction, but no SLC team was in the NIT last year. This was men's, so perhaps the women's auto-selection is different. Either way, I do think the Cards have a high enough RPI to get in, with or without the auto-bid As of right now, the WNIT website only shows auto-bids for these teams: 2011 Postseason WNIT Teams a=Automatic Berth a-Appalachian St. (SoCon) a-Florida Gulf Coast (Atl. Sun) a-Loyola-Md. (Metro-Atl.) a-Oral Roberts (Summit) a-St. Mary's (West Coast) a-Tennessee Tech (Ohio Val.) a-UMBC (America East) a-Yale (Ivy League)
 8. This post is a little misleading. There's a good chance the Lamar ladies will get a WNIT spot, but it's not certain yet.
 9.
I support a move to a FBS conference if we have the money and resources to be competitive in all the sports in which we compete. I'll reframe for any other comments because I'm sure a lot of people will disagree and I honestly don't have the time for a debate.
That's why I've stopped chiming in on things. It's not worth the headache. I'm not going to change anyone's mind, and they're not going to change mine.
 10.
Yeah right. If Sam got the invite, all the katfan yard birds will be celebrating to no end. The only reason you oppose a Sam invite is because Sam is not moving up.
No, that's really not it. I've been opposed to the move up since TSU and UTSA started their whole move up talk. This isn't anything new. I've flirted with the idea of supporting it, but I can't stand behind the idea of moving.
 11.
Lamar wins 11-1 in 7 innings. Let the soft schedule talk begin.
Soft, so soft. Softer than felt.
 12. Found this after a little searching, not really definitive: [Hidden Content]
He reportedly doesn't have his college degree, but NCAA compliance representatives say they know of no rule that says a college head coach has to have a college degree to get hired - although they all believe it's a very good idea. After all, how are you going to sell "student-athletes'' on getting an education if the head coach doesn't have his degree?

Don't think he graduated.
Is that a requirement to coach? I don't think so.
I'm pretty sure that in order to be the coach at Lamar a person would have to have earned their bachelor's degree.
I think that's usually a preference, not a requirement. There are plenty of professional athletes that don't finish their degrees. If Lebron James decided to coach after his career, do you think Lamar would turn him down because he doesn't have a college degree? Probably not.

This message is clear to me.  The invites will go to Lamar and either Seattle or Cal St-B.  This is what the WAC needs to get to 8 football playing universities and one non-football team for each division.  This is the path to add western football universities to the west division at the next expansion time.   There has been interest by ULL but their UNT and Ark St brethern seem to be trying to persuade them not to leave the SBC for the WAC.  ULL fans have stated on one of their fan sites that the WAC is a better basketball conference than the SBC.  WAC baseball is even with the SBC but note that Fresno won the CWS a few years back which did not ever happen in the SBC. ULL fans see football as a push between the WAC and SBC.
WAC basketball is only better than the Sunbelt because of Utah State, take them out, and they're really not that much different.
JJWooten, Are you hearing anything out of Sam?  Another Bearkat poster stated that Sam is coming to the WAC also.
Nope, heard nothing. I doubt it's true, it's probably all talk. The AD hasn't announced anything & newspapers aren't saying anything. We're not in a position to move. We don't have the fan support, state funding has decreased year after year, and the travel budgets associated with leaving the SLC are too expensive compared to the relatively regional geographic area we're working with now. If we were invited, I would be SERIOUSLY surprised. The U is growing steadily, but athletically, we're average overall, with a few teams usually having good seasons to balance out the bad teams. I think with sports such as basketball and baseball, we're attractive, but with the overall athletic package and attendance records (mainly football), we're not.

 17.
Bad reporting? According to Steve Roccaforte, cleaning out his office is "totally false."
Looks like too many people have unreliable sources. This board is riddled with "I heard from a close anonymous friend..." Grow up, this isn't high school, quit spreading rumors.
 18.

Just so you know, it's teams like Lamar (this year) that helped make the conference one of the worst.
We know!  That's why we want Roc gone!
I've always wondered, but never known, how much power does a coach have in OOC scheduling, versus the AD? Coach, maybe you know?
 19.
Your in the minority big time here! How is it brutal to expect to be at the very least one of the top 8 teams in quite possibly the worst DI basketball conference in America year in and year out?
Just so you know, it's teams like Lamar (this year) that helped make the conference one of the worst. UTA - 269 TAMU-CC  - 280 Lamar - 294 UCA - 340 You can't get rid of the bad teams, and moving to the WAC won't make your RPI any higher. Take out Utah State, and every team is about 115, even when you add in TSU-SM and UTSA. The conference will only get better when teams stop scheduling the worst teams in the country.
 20.
it's regretful, but the only thing that matters is what you do at the tournament.
Not always true, if the regular season champ doesn't win the tourney, they can go to the NIT. What's REALLY regretful is that if you win the regular season AND the tourney, you only get to send one team to post season play.
 21. Since Roc still has a season left, let's use his looks to his advantage, have Lamar buy a bunch of used Cars, and see if Roc can sell some out of hte Montagne Center parking lot. No commission, he already makes over 100K! ;D ;D ;D
 22.
Our season is over with no post season play, again. Roc you just don't have it.
What was Roc doing with all the subs? No one played over 30 minutes, 4 guys around 25 minutes, the rest in the teens.
 23. You guys have a lot of Bearkats rooting for you guys today. If you guys beat McNeese, and we beat TSU-SM, we'll be co-conference champions, in at least a 3-way tie, depending on who wins out of NWST and SFA, maybe 4
 24.
That is a lot of information.
Yea, I feel pretty bad for the guys in Frisco, that probably took a good chunk of man hours. Pretty much, this is the breakdown for who gets in the tourney, the rest of the PDF is seeding issues.: McNeese, Northwestern, Texas State, SFA, SHSU and SLU have all clinched berths. Nicholls, with a win Saturday at SLU, will clinch a berth. With a loss, Nicholls can still qualify, but needs help. UTSA, with a win Saturday at UTA, will clinch a berth. UTSA is eliminated with a loss Saturday. UTA must win Saturday vs. UTSA to have a chance, but needs help in the 8-8 tie-breaker scenarios. Lamar can only qualify with a win and a Nicholls loss, forcing a head-to-head or multiple-team 8-8 tiebreaker with the Colonels. Lamar is eliminated in any other 8-8 tie-breakers. UCA and A&M-CC have been eliminated.
 25.
Is that from the SLC website?
Yes: [Hidden Content] It has a list of ALL POSSIBLE tiebreaking situations and where teams will be ranked.
