Just wondering what has happened to LOCAL rivalries? When I was playing a 40 minute bus ride was a long road trip and we had a cooler in the back of the bus for the sandwiches someones momma made. Now school has to be let out early, the team (and band) have to stop halfway and get something to eat, Charter busses are needed sometimes. Should we get a hotel or drive back after the game and get home at 2am? All of that is bad enough in the play offs but for a regular game? Come on, Vidor and a team from Texarkana? Kville vs Wills Point? Where the heck is Wills point? Part of the love of High School sports is the bragging rights and smack talk. At my job we have ex players from BC, Vidor, Central and so on and every week is a strole down memory lane back to glory days and a chance for a little hometown pride. All in good fun of course but lines are drawn and chalenges thrown down so dont even think about disrespecting my team! LOL. It seems these road trips are getting longer and longer and IMO any team you have to meet in the middle is just too far away!

I'm with ya! And, if you can't find a game to schedule closer to home then don't play it. There is no rule that says a team has to play 10 games. The only ones that matter are district games. Still, I understand the desire to play all 10 but I just don't understand some of these road trips myself! Probably fun for the kids but the gas bills must be outrageous.

You are EXACTLY RIGHT! Except for the mention of Vidor playing Texarkana, which was caused by Crosby chickening out. I love local rivalries, and I think the trips halfway across Texas (or worse) are expensive and counterproductive for the teams (read "students") and fans alike. Common sense scheduling has given way to "OOOHHH, look at us! We are traveling really far away" thinking for too many programs.
