I would like to see PA Memorial get off of TEA's hit list first.
We've been done with TEA for 3/4 years now.  The budget is balanced, a surpluse of moolaa in the bank (25 million), test score up,  construction upgrades on every campus, technology in every classroom, hell the time is now! 8)

Just curious...
Haven't been to the Triangle lately, but....
Has the new Port Arthur high school off 9th ave openned yet?
Will they use the old TJ high school for a junior high campus when they finish the new high school?

I remember watching a TJ - PN-G game in the late 80's at Memorial Stadium, it was packed, even the old end zone section (which I think have been removed).  When that stadium was packed it was like a small bowl and the playing atmosphere was electric.
Some great games have been played there.
Hope the upgrades to the stadium go through.

Goat, this is what I was referring to:

17 local schools make state's worst list

Thousands of Southeast Texas students will have the opportunity to transfer to new schools after 17 area campuses were included on a statewide list for low performance.

Almost 500 campuses statewide were on the Public Education Grant List, which the Texas Education Agency has released annually since 1995.

The list, which was released Tuesday, includes schools in which 50 percent or less of the students pass a TAKS test during any two of the past three years. The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills measures student performance in reading, writing, math, social studies and science.

Schools that have been rated academically unacceptable at least one of the last three years also are included on the list.

Once a school is on the list, parents can apply to transfer their child to another higher-performing campus in the same district or in another school district. The other district does not necessarily have to accept the student's application.

This year, nine area school districts had campuses on the list. Several district officials interviewed by The Enterprise acknowledged the shortcomings at their listed schools, but also praised the gains their campuses have shown in the past few years.

"Our focus continues to be on continuous improvement for each of our schools in the Port Arthur ISD," said Assistant Superintendent Mark Porterie, who spoke with The Enterprise by phone Wednesday.

Port Arthur ISD had four schools on the list: DeQueen Elementary, Edison Middle School, Memorial High School and Wilson Technology Theme School.

Each campus was placed on the list for slightly different reasons, however, science proved problematic for all four. Math plagued Edison and Memorial. And an academically unacceptable rating caused problems for all the campuses but DeQueen Elementary.

Porterie said that Memorial High School has since been rated an academically acceptable school and even earned additional recognition for extra academic programs.

Beaumont ISD had two schools on the list, Austin and King middle schools. Poor performances in math and science placed Austin on the list. Science performance earned King a spot on the list.

District officials did not return several calls for comment.

Once a district is notified of the schools on the list, they in turn must notify the parents of students zoned to those schools that they can apply for a transfer either within or outside the district.

For the districts that find their schools on the list, it's typically a reminder of problems of which they're already aware.

Wow!  How much educational material could 1 million dollars buy?  Priorities, people, priorities.

Money is NOT the reason for low performance!
Just ask North Forest ISD.
You can give these kids laptops and other educational materials, but if they don't care, it won't help.

But, if it is as you say, then give that money back to the tax payers.  What a novel approach.

I agree.....it amazes me that some parents don't insist on a better education than they got.
