Hon-Mention Linebacker Quinton Crow is a former PNG guy, if someone has not noticed. He now plays for Lake Travis.
Yes he is and has a younger brother who I believe is a sophomore and is a good athlete.

7 Denison players made the all state teams, and 10 Denton Guyer/Ryan combos made the teams also.

A little North Texas bias going on with these teams. ;)

Denison - Semifinalist
Denton Guyer - Semifinalist
Denton Ryan - Qtr Finalist

*I think they earned it

Then what about Lake Travis - they earned it! Not from Dallas so they got treated the same as us folks down south with this set of teams.

1 from Brehnam (State title game).
They had some linemen that could have and probably should have made it (one Sophomore DT that was a incredible). That WR/DB was good, but not the best player I saw on that team!

North Texas bias indeed. You cannot tell me that SE Texas, East Texas, Houston area, and Austin/San Antonio area are All that far behind Dallas in terms of talent. Too many pollsters live in that area, they vote for guys they see regularly. Seems to me that they need to get some voters from wider portions of the State.

I thought that Darian Lazard from Dawson was deserving. As well as the Diggs kid from Angelton.

How does this whole system work? How do these playes get selected?

I didn't say that they didn't earn it...I was just commenting on the Denison and Denton teams.  We could sit here all day and give examples of who should have made it.

240 4A schools 24 positions from each school (including punter and kicker) equals 5,760 kids.  There are going to be some good athletes left out.
They really are going to get left out if they keep the ratio of voters from DFW over the other areas combined!

Thought I was through for the season but couldn't help myself (ha). This is actually a good question.

The fact is, each year various organizations put forth an All-State team (AP, Texas Sportswriters Association, DCTF, etc.).

The system works in several ways. In the case of the Texas Sportswriters Association, a player has to be nominated to be considered. The members then look over the nominations and selects the players. The nomination process requires the input of not only local sportswriters but also local coaches. If a sportswriter/coach drops the ball, the player is not nominated and, therefore, does not make the team. It's that simple. With the thousands of players out there, it's just not possible for a group of sportswriters from around the state to select an All-State team that is truly accurate. At some positions, its fairly easy. There are numerous outlets to gather stats on qb's, rb's, wr's, etc. but the rest of the positions are a bit cloudy. Some defensive stats are readily available but stats for lineman, etc. are scarce at best unless one takes the time to call every school and get info from every coach. Since noone is going to do that, it is left up to the coach to submit the players he would like to see nominated with relevant stats/info, etc.

So, a coach or sportswriter (media person) puts together a list of potential All-State players and submits their names with relevant stats, info, etc. to the TSWA. The voting members then look over the nominations and make a decision.

I'll give you an example from my own involvement with the process with DCTF. This season, there are several good players in our area who have had phenomenal seasons. But, when you compare those numbers with other players from around the state, (in an unbiased way) you quickly find that most of those players numbers (though good) fall short when compared to numerous other players across Texas. Caleb Harmon is one example. He had a great year but, when compared with dozens of other running backs around the state, he quickly falls behind many and, therefore, can't be considered an All-State nominee (Texas is a big state). The only way I could submit his name would be by choosing to be completely biased about Golden Triangle football and ignore the accomplishments of other kids around the state (accomplishments that surpass Harmon's). I can't do that. So, the only name I submitted from the Golden Triangle area was LeFrederick Ford. Ford had a great season and averaged right at 10 yards per carry. Even with that, he will probably not make the DCTF All-State team because it includes players from all classifications and, when you look at the whole spectrum of players (Private through 5A), Ford's numbers put him behind a dozen or more players from around the state. (I should add that I do not vote for the DCTF All-State team; I simply submit names from our area that I think should be considered as do other DCTF writers from around Texas - Various staff members then select the team based on all of the nominations). I spent about 20hrs of my own time researching stats/info, etc. on players from not only the Golden Triangle but the entire Greater Houston area as well because I'm just not the type to randomly pull names out of a hat. It wasn't all fun but, in the end, I can honestly say that I did my research and made a fair and unbiased decision.

Is their bias in the voting process? I'm sure there is. It's only natural for humans to become engrossed in their own surroundings. I don't expect a Dallas sportswriter to know as much as I do about Golden Triangle football. And, I will readily admit that I do not know nearly enough about Dallas football to call myself an expert on the matter. But, the fact is, there are far more sportswriters in the Metroplex to submit names and push for various players than there are in the Golden Triangle. That's simply a matter of numbers rather than bias. If the vote was over the best color of hair, red-headed people would be severely outnumbered (ha). That's just the way it is. It's probably not an intentional bias as much as simply a case of voting based on what you know.

Anyway, didn't mean to be long-winded but the question was asked and I did my best to answer it. My advice is don't put too much stock in the All-State team. It's cool but many of the members of this forum are just as knowledgeable (if not more) as the sportswriters who get to vote. And, if you feel a player has been overlooked, take the time to look at the stats/info on the guy who was picked. In most cases, after a little research, you will probably come to the same conclusion as the voters but not always. There are some "stupid" votes cast every now and then.

Lastly, if it bothers you then make it a point to contact local media/coaches, etc. (NEXT SEASON...TOO LATE THIS YEAR) prior to the season's end and make sure they actually take the time to submit the player's name. But, before doing so, do some research and see how he actually stacks up against the entire state of Texas. After doing that research, you may decide to not make that call after all. There are some phenomenal players around Texas with some crazy stats. Just my two cents...

Yea what a joke bc Marshall has a kid Aaron Franklin heading to OU as a LB or safety. Nowhere to be found.  ???
The real joke is that there are probably dozens of players just as good as Franklin who receive no exposure (smaller schools, less covered areas, etc.) and will not be going anywhere. Atleast he has been given a shot. In addition, those players who do make the All-State team will see their recruiting clout go up tremendously and will, most likely, receive a scholarship to a D1 school. In contrast, many players (perhaps even better players) will never get that recognition and, therefore, never go to any college. It's a big crapshoot and the player with the loudest horn section behind him has the advantage.
