Fedor vs Rogers

mat

Recommended Posts

Nov 7 live on CBS.

Strike force landed a mainsteam primetime slot on a major network featuring the #1 PFP fighter in the world.

I considered Dana White the marketing guru of MMA but not a bad move for Stikeforce, an organization considered on it's way out.

What do you think?

Before to long fedor will be in the ufc gurantee it. Fedor has never been a big ratings. Dana isn't dumb fedor signed like a 3 fight deal. If fedor loses to Rogers then Rogers will be in ufc quick.

I mean strikeforce has to be so nervous about this fight because there depending on FEDOR because if FEDOR loses no doubt in my mind strikeforce will fold and not make it, and then you will see about 15 fighteres going to the UFC from strikeforce.    Strikeforce is the WCW from years back and UFC is the WWE, UFC will always survive and strikeforce will be WCW and then another organization will come along (TNA etc) and be laughable company.

I'm not so sure Fedor is in a hurry to get to Brock.
[/quote]

Completely agree with that statement!

Why? Brock sucks!!!!! Fedor will make Brock look like a rookie.....

Well what your saying here is dumb. The reason Fedor didn't sign with the UFC is because Dana white didn't want Fedor to do any other fighting outside of the UFC and Fedor has more leagues that he fights in.....

Yeah because DANA white is the smartest man in the MMA buisness, Thing is UFC doesn't need FEDOR, FEDOR needs UFC so more fans can get a custom of who he is and how great he is so DANA isn't going ot bite, He knows he doesn't need FEDOR because sooner or later FEDOR will sign with the UFC.

So he can fight in the best organization in the  mma buisness and so he can fight the best heavyweights in the world that's why. To be the best you got to beat the best. Gsp.machida.Silva.penn they fight the best, you know why in boxing they call pac man the best PFP fighter in the world is because he fights the best he moves up in weight and fights the best guys out there, Floyd mayweather won't be the best untill he fights PACMAN untill he does and beats him then he will be. The reason why floyd came back is because he wasn't called the best anymore. So if pacman gets past cotto you will see the two best Fighters in the WORLD and break all pview recrods Mayweather vs Pacman........just like Fedor VS LESNAR its the biggest fight MMA can MAKE. Untill FEDOR fights LESNAR and WINS he will get all the respect from MMA FANS. THATS WHY HE NEEDS TO BE IN THE UFC. TO BE THE BEST YOU GOT TO BEAT THE BEST and UFC has the best, VELESQUEZ,CARWIN,MIR,LESNAR,DOS SONTOS I WANT TO SEE FEDOR FIGHT ALL OF THOSE GUYS including SILVA and MACHIDA.

I don't disagree that he needs to fight Lesnar but since he is considered the #1 PFP fighter in the world it appears he has the respect of MMA fans. I have also considered Danna the best in the business and I thought Fedor needed the UFC for exposure but Strikeforce with Fedor have landed a primetime fight on a major network for free viewing.

Something Danna and the UFC either hasn't been able to do or wouldn't do because of money. Makes me wonder.

he hasn't did it because he's being smart about what primetime slot he wants and who he signs it with............Go look at most PFP rankings fedor isn't number 1 my friend because he has fought one descent fighter in like 4 years and that was arvloski who got cut by the UFC..... here are sherdog and yahoo rankings. Those are his last 5 fights, Go check Machida last five fights,GSP, and Anderson Silva thats what PFP best fighters in the world do they fight the best and FEDOR hasn't fought the best in a whileeeeee.

Andrei Arlovski-UFC didn't resign
Tim Sylvia- ufc didn't resign him
Hong Man Choi-Who is this guy lol
Matt Lindland- fought a 185 pound fighter
Mark Coleman-fought a grandpa that should have been a lightheavyweight

10. Brock Lesnar
Points: 22
Affiliation: UFC (UFC heavyweight champion)
Weight class: Heavyweight
Hometown: Webster, S.D.
Record: 4-1 (won last four)
Last month’s ranking: unranked
Most recent result: def. Frank Mir, R2 TKO, July 11
Analysis: Has sat just outside the top 10 for the past several months. A bit of shuffling among the pollsters put Lesnar a point ahead of Dan Henderson in the standings.

9. Brian Bowles
Points: 26
Affiliation: WEC
Weight class: Bantamweight (WEC bantamweight champion)
Hometown: Athens, Ga.
Record: 8-0
Last month’s ranking: 9
Most recent result: def. Miguel Torres, R1 TKO, Aug. 9
Analysis: Rumor has Bowles defending his title against Dominic Cruz on a double bill also featuring Miguel Torres’ return fight sometime in February.

T7. Miguel Angel Torres
Points: 29
Affiliation: WEC
Weight class: Bantamweight
Hometown: East Chicago, Ind.
Record: 36-2 (lost last one)
Last month’s ranking: 8
Most recent result: lost to Brian Bowles, R1 TKO, Aug. 9
Analysis: No doubt hungry to prove loss to Bowles a fluke.

T7. Mauricio Rua
Points: 29
Affiliation: UFC
Weight class: Light heavyweight
Hometown: Curitiba, Brazil
Record: 18-4 (lost last one)
Last month’s ranking: unranked
Most recent result: lost to Lyoto Machida, unanimous decision, Oct. 24
Analysis: Rua laid out the blueprint for neutralizing Machida’s style. The hardest part – finishing Machida – will be the key to the rematch.

6. Mike Brown
Points: 67
Affiliation: WEC
Weight class: Featherweight (WEC featherweight champion)
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Record: 22-4 (won last 10)
Last month’s ranking: 6
Most recent result: def. Urijah Faber, unanimous decision, June 7
Analysis: A convincing win over nasty striker Jose Aldo on Nov. 18 could vault Brown into the top five.

5. Lyoto Machida
Points: 105
Affiliation: UFC
Weight class: Light heavyweight
Hometown: Belem, Brazil
Record: 16-0
Last month’s ranking: 4
Most recent result: def. Mauricio Rua, unanimous decision, Oct. 24
Analysis: While some of the shine is off Machida’s undefeated record, Rua never came close to finishing Machida, so let’s not call the Machida Era over before it started.

4. B.J. Penn
Points: 107
Affiliation: UFC
Weight class: Lightweight (UFC lightweight champion)
Hometown: Hilo, Hawaii
Record: 14-5-1 (won last one)
Last month’s ranking: 4
Most recent result: def. Kenny Florian, R4 submission, Aug. 8
Analysis: Penn’s one-sided loss to welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre in February makes it easy to forget that since Penn dropped to 155 two years ago. He’s 4-0 with four decisive finishes in his weight class and has barely been challenged along the way.

3. Fedor Emelianenko
Points: 133 (four first-place votes)
Affiliation: Strikeforce/M-1 (never lost PRIDE title)
Weight class: Heavyweight
Hometown: Stary Oskol, Russia
Record: 30-1, one no-contest (won last 10)
Last month’s ranking: 3
Most recent result: def. Andrei Arlovski, R1 KO, Jan. 24
Analysis: Since reader feedback on Fedor is split right down the middle, here’s a handy form to ease your email experience: “Dear moron, How dare you rank Fedor so [low/high]!!!! Fedor is [nature’s most unstoppable force/afraid of Kimbo Slice] and [could kill a great white shark with his bare hands/would get knocked out by Joe Benavidez]!!!! Get your head out of [Dana’s/Coker’s] backside and put Fedor [No. 1/out of the Top 10] or I’m never clicking on Yahoo! Sports again!!!! Love, [Reader].”

2. Georges St. Pierre
Points: 144 (four first-place votes)
Affiliation: UFC
Weight class: Welterweight (UFC welterweight champion)
Hometown: Saint-Isidore, Quebec
Record: 19-2 (won last six)
Last month’s ranking: 2
Most recent result: def. Thiago Alves, unanimous decision, July 11
Analysis: Current chatter has St. Pierre returning from his injury as early as February.

1. Anderson Silva
Points: 150 (eight first-place votes)
Affiliation: UFC
Weight class: Middleweight (UFC middleweight champion)
Hometown: Curitiba, Brazil
Record: 24-4 (won last 10)
Last month’s ranking: 1
Most recent result: def. Forrest Griffin, R1 KO, Aug. 8
Analysis: Manager Ed Soares remains coy about Silva’s plans, but by sliding Brock Lesnar-Shane Carwin into the Jan. 2 card, UFC took away some of the middleweight champion’s negotiating leverage

1. Anderson Silva (25-4)
After lackluster efforts in his middleweight title defenses against Cote and Leites, Silva drew the scorn and ire of fans, fighters, journalists and even UFC President Dana White. However, in his 205-pound bout with former UFC light heavyweight champion Griffin on Aug. 8, Silva smashed a quality fighter in historically brutal fashion. There are rumblings now that “The Spider” will vacate his middleweight crown in favor of a permanent move to 205 pounds, which would allow him to continue to add to an outstanding resume.

2. Georges St. Pierre (19-2)
Talk had brewed of a pound-for-pound super fight following St. Pierre’s July handling of top contender Thiago Alves, but with Silva’s blowout of Griffin, discussions of St. Pierre-Silva have cooled. That works fine for St. Pierre, who is keen to continue defending his welterweight title. He now awaits his next contender -- the winner of the Mike Swick-Martin Kampmann title eliminator at UFC 103 on Sept. 19.

3. Fedor Emelianenko (30-1, 1 NC)
Just as fellow pound-for-pound kings Silva and St. Pierre had blockbuster summer bouts to add to their respective resumes, Emelianenko was scheduled to meet Josh Barnett at Affliction “Trilogy” on Aug. 1. One failed pre-licensing drug test later, Emelianenko no longer had a fight due to Barnett’s most recent steroid indiscretions. The sport’s heavyweight ruler has since signed with Strikeforce and will make his promotional debut in the fall aganst Rogers.

4. Lyoto Machida (15-0)
Many fans and pundits are already calling for Zuffa to put enough money on the table to grease the wheels of a Machida-Silva showdown. Whether or not Machida ever ends up fighting his pal, the Shotokan stalwart still has a date with rejuvenated light heavyweight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 104 in October in what will be the first defense of his UFC light heavyweight title.

The unassuming featherweight
ruler of MMA clocks in at five.5. Mike Thomas Brown (22-4)
The unassuming featherweight ruler of MMA has turned in a stellar run over the last three years, with 10 victories in a row, including a pair of wins over former featherweight kingpin and pound-for-pound entrant Urijah Faber. As Zuffa continues to gobble up more and more top featherweights under the WEC banner, Brown will have the chance to put together a muscular resume. However, the biggest challenge for the 33-year-old American Top Teamer may be his next one, as he will meet fire-breathing 22-year-old phenom Jose Aldo in November.

6. B.J. Penn (14-5-1)
Penn may be the most gifted fighter on this list. At UFC 101, he showed exactly why the MMA world anointed him from day one, as he put on arguably his most consummate performance as a prizefighter, nullifying Kenny Florian for 15 minutes before routing him in the fourth frame and finishing him by submission. The next challenger to Penn’s UFC lightweight title figures to be Diego Sanchez in the coming months. If Penn chooses to continue his reign as a lightweight -- the role everyone but he himself has long desired -- he will only climb this list and validate his enormous talent.

7. Quinton Jackson (30-7)
Between his energy drink-fueled legal indiscretions, lascivious actions in video interviews and candid quotes, Jackson does not always stay relevant due to his fighting accomplishments. However, Jackson is 4-1 against five straight top 10 opponents in one of MMA’s deepest divisions. His sixth straight 205-pound standout foe will be Rashad Evans in December, after the two square off as coaches on the forthcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

8. Jon Fitch (19-3, 1 NC)
Fitch does not have the scintillating offense of a Silva, Emelianenko or Penn, and he’s the only entrant on this list who has not won a major title in the UFC, WEC or Pride. What Fitch does possess, however, is a gaudy 10-1 mark in the UFC, as he has racked up top 10 victories in MMA’s historically deepest and most talented division. He may be the welterweight division’s perennial second banana, but that remains an extremely meritorious position.

9. Rashad Evans (13-1-1)
Evans’ first defense of the UFC light heavyweight belt in May was a disaster, as he was dominated from bell-to-bell by Machida. However, Evans will have the chance to get back in line for a rematch with Machida, add to his resume and up his Q-rating. He will coach opposite Jackson on the 10th season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” which will lead up to a high-profile December showdown between the two.

10. Brian Bowles (8-0)
With a gaudy record and an all-out action style, Miguel Torres was supposed to be the first great bantamweight in MMA history, bringing the division to the masses. However, Bowles had other plans, as he punched out the pound-for-pound entrant in the first round, staked his claim as the sport’s top 135-pounder and earned a place on this list. Now, it will be up to Bowles to continue adding to what is quickly becoming a high-quality resume, especially by the standards of a division where historically few top fighters have fought one another. The first defense of Bowles’ newly-acquired crown will likely come against fellow upstart Dominick Cruz.

i think we beat this dead horse long enough, but i would like to point a few things out. why is it when fedor fights someone he out weighs its wrong and is used to debunk his rating(lindland) but when he fights guys who grossly out weigh him nothing is said? credit is never given its only taken away! this has to be a two sided argument, if you take credit from him for smashing smaller fighters thats put in front of him give him credit for smashing much bigger fighters who are put in front of him as well.

rogers 265
choi 319
sylvia 287
arlovski 265
hunt 280
zulu 390
schilt 290
fedor 6 foot 233   30-1

lesnar 265  6 ft 3in 4-1
mir  245   seriously, when was the last time he was relevant
couture 220  when was the last time he was relevant plus wasnt he the lightweight champ, but nothing is said about that!
herring 250  when was the last time he was relevant, dont say pride!
mir 245  lesnar lost!!!
soo kim 254   who the heck is he!!!???

i just cant see why a fighter who has been a champ for soooo many years and whos fought and BEAT a whos who of mma beasts should feel the need to have to chase a fighter who is 4-1 and really has done nothing. heres an idea, if lesnar REALLY wants fedor then let lesnar go to fedor instead of fedor going to lesnar. if fedor never fights lesnar it wont matter and he will still be considered the best hw ever, but lesnar has to beat fedor to ever be considered the best.

Always remember fedor would face the best athlete in mma and he's 265 pounds that's a animal.atleast lesnar has beating ranked guys in the heavyweight division something fedor hasn't in a while. Like I said if you want to be known the best fight in the best organization and fight the best heavyweight out there in the ufc. Do you know why machida.gsp.Silva are so liked and they get recognize is because they fight the best.if fedor was a real competitor and athlete he would want to fight the best and fight in the nfl.NBA.mlb. Of mma and that's the ufc.
