Rockets acquire Gerald Green at deadline

Kirk Snyder sent to Minnesota for Gulf Shores Academy product

The Rockets on Thursday completed a deadline trade for Gulf Shores Academy product Gerald Green, sending Kirk Snyder to the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire the third-year guard.

Green, the former NBA dunk champion drafted by Boston when Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was with the Celtics, is considered a project, but with rare physical abilities. Green will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Green, 22, has played sparingly this season since he was acquired in the deal that sent Kevin Garnett to Boston. Playing in just 29 games, he has averaging 5.1 points on 33.3 percent shooting.

In 142 NBA games over three seasons, he has averaged 8.9 points per game.

Snyder, who has not been able to crack the Rockets’ rotation, said he would welcome a trade. He has played in only nine games this season.

Green would have to grow as a player, but could be an athletic backup small forward/shooting guard with shooting range off the bench.
