Good deal. Baytown has toyed with trying to change Lee's name but not happened........yet.

My Son asked to go there instead of Lumberton - I was reluctant, but agreed. Best decision, small classes and great teachers.

The passage of time and evolution of community sentiment meant that the institutions no longer considered the name to be appropriate, so it was changed. Subsequent administrations saw fit to change the name BACK to the previous name…

The process was identical. You just like one guy and dislike the other. The fact that one fought to preserve slavery and the other one is a black man has nothing to do with your preferences, right?

No - one can disagree without being accused of being racist.

One is present time and one was 160 years ago...... That seems like a pretty big difference.

In the BISD case, the naming of the stadium was strictly a school board kissing butt. Majority of community wasn't really behind it. (including part of the black community). The school board made the decision without any input from the community.

Only a very small portion of the community want the stadium name to go back to Thomas. Might be a loud portion, but definitely not the majority.

I can't speak on the Midland community and how the majority of it's community wanted the Lee name back. Sounds like their voices were heard.

I think it's different due to what the majority wants from both these communities.

if you’re basing your opposition based purely on the time passed since “honoree” passed, do you have a problem with the “Gulf of America?”

My guess is “no,” because it’s what your Daddy Trump wants. 
 

Is this going to be the new norm? A school board vote swings one way, so a name is changed, then it gets changed back after the next election? Y’all are all applauding our army  bases being re-re-named to honor Confederate heroes, but how will you feel when the next admin names them something else?

 

People who are bothered by names are weak. 
 

And supporting a racist makes you a racist. Now go cheer on an admin that supports deporting people who are brown and speak Spanish, whether they’re here legally or not.

and calling other members racists, especially moderators, will make your account disappear. So... bye. Hopefully this can be a cautionary tale for those members who've been making a habit out of insulting and name-calling. We're going to start purging those members or lose the political forum completely, so please tone it down a little.

Why do we change names anyway? To appease the minority voice? Shouldn’t happen in a democracy. To change history? Cannot be changed. To forget history ever happened? Not gonna happen. Have the northern schools changed the names of Grant or Sherman? I guess they are heroes, yet the north had almost as many slaves as the south. They just didn’t have the plantations. Call me a racist or whatever, what I said is true.

How did Butch stadium get involved in this?
