This has to be one of the strangest coaching searches/hires for a premier program I can remember. Silsbee has to be one of the best jobs in the state based on potential to win big and consistently. No disrespect to Coach Brown, but did they ever win any post-season games at Anahuac? I remember them getting in a couple of times, but I cannot remember much beyond that.

I thought this would have brought in some heavy hitters. Regardless, good luck to the Tigers moving forward.

I'd imagine pay has something to do with the coaching selection. A lot of these coaches have mouths to feed and Tiger pay can make it a little rough. I don't think people realize how lucky Silsbee has been with the coaches they've had.

I'm not sure what Coach Brown has had to work with at his other stops, but you can only do so much with what you have in players. Sometimes a win/loss record doesn't tell the whole story.

Silsbee pay does need to get better. Otherwise we might see coaches using Silsbee to pad their resume before moving on to greener pastures.

Silsbee folks need to remember, both Joe Sigler and Travis Williams had never been head coaches when they were first hired to be head coaches at Silsbee. Both were assistants at the time. Sigler at Silsbee, Williams at Kountze.

I mean this as no disrespect to Coach Hancock, but just kind of crazy how a guy with no HC experience was viewed as this great hire and a guy with two head coaching stops and good assistant experience is viewed as a baffling hire.

Exactly.

I’m probably the only one this fascinates but there are no subjects on this website that move the needle more than WOS football and Silsbee basketball.

Good luck Coach Brown!

This kind of is similar to when WO-S replaced Thompson with Hickman. One of the top programs in the state replacing a legend who won multiple championships with a coach from a lesser program.  Will be interesting to see if he forces his grind it out defensive style or keeps what has been working.

Very similar.  Worse for Hickman though, he was replacing back-to-back Hall of Fame coaches.  But replacing any HOF coach has got to be tough, and Sigler is a lock for that.  Good news for Coach Brown is he will have two of the best assistants you can find sitting beside him.

I guess folks don't remember that Hickman was on staff at WO-S for 6 years when he was promoted (not hired) as the AD/HC.
