But here is a cold, hard fact many, if not most of the Card faithful may not know or want to accept - in the current state of affairs in the Southland, 2nd is the ceiling for Lamar. That is to say, as long as Will Wade is at McNeese, and more accurately, as long as they are pumping the kind of money they are into their basketball program, Lamar isn’t going to compete with that. McNeese has a high mid-major NIL collective and honestly a roster to match. In fact, they have several players making more in NIL $ than the entire Lamar roster combined. Unless and until some of Lamar’s BMD decide they want to match their efforts (and Lamar’s biggest donors could buy and sell McNeese’s many times over), the Cards are not going to be able to compete with McNeese on a consistent basis. And honestly, I don’t think those guys care enough about Lamar basketball to make that a realistic probability. With what he’s being paid in Lake Charles, he’s being very selective with his next move. But I do agree with you and think after this season he will likely make the jump. If they are still willing to pay 3X Brooks salary (who is the second highest coach in the SLC last I checked), they can get another really good coach. And their AD is a hoops guy. Quote

Expand I think he was being selective because of the the whole scandal from LSU… now with another year past that McNeese likely going to be a 12/13 seed in the tourney some one will come calling again.. the man knows ball and coaches well and recruits well. Good news is SELA also lost, at home vs Northwestern, to leave the Cards a game clear alone in second. Bad news is if they had one, it would have give them a one game cushion which would have allowed them to split the final two at home vs McNeese and Nicholls and still have the byes all the way into the semis at the conference tournament. Expand You would know a lot more about this than I do, so here goes. How hard is it to find a bully like James Gulley? It seems to me that someone like him that you could depend on inside would make them a lot better. Quote

Lamar has very little NIL money so they are going to have to find diamond in the rough types. Hamilton is their big and he’s one of their best players. Holyfield is also very long and is arguably their best player (but he prefers playing the perimeter). Guys like Shumate of McNeese (the best big in the conference) is only there because they can afford to pay him high mid major money. Quote
