I work with a few guys whose kids play/played at BH, and from what I am hearing they have several kids quitting even in their senior year. I know if the kids are not excited to play for a coach then the coach doesn't get the best from the players.

Sterling was having the same problem. In comes new coach. Kids love him from what I hear. Know a couple kids on the team and that's what they say. Couldn't tell you the last time they started 5-0 two years in a row. Now will they do well in district. IDK..  but at-least they are getting the kids out to play that should be there.

In today's world, with so many other opportunities for kids, coaches have to make it fun. If it is the same old, boring , monotonous garbage day in and day out then kids will find something else to do. I'm sure that there is a gunslinger walking the halls at BH and probably a few 6'2 receivers as well. I think BH needs to avoid the "name" game and find a unproven, ambitious coach with some ties to the area that is willing to build and stay long term. In fact I actually know just the perfect guy.

If you find a coach with community it won't work out. Parents will want their kid played because they know the coach, friends with him, etc.  A coach needs to come in and do his job without feeling pressure from friends or community ties. You also won't be keeping him around because he has community ties should he not work out

I fault the UIL for decisions they've made lately. The expanded playoff system ( 4 teams) puts incredible pressure on coaches nowadays. Parents and school boards expectations have increased because in most districts if your team finishes in the top half, you make playoffs. If you can't finish in atleast top half, eventually your done. I don't remember as many coaches chopping block when only two teams made the playoffs. Of course it could argued the other way as well.

When I say ties, I am referring to indirect ties, so that he is aware of the situation but not directly involved. I understand the stigma that might come with direct ties. But, the man needs to understand the in's and out's of the community and what he is getting into.

I disagree.  Do things right.  Do right by kids.  Work hard.  Expect your staff to work hard.  Ties don't matter.  Community has to let the Coach, coach.

Before you enter into any coaching situation, it helps to know what you are getting into. If your personality does not fit the community, school or student population then you need to stay away. Some coaches are not fits for certain schools, that is the cold, honest truth.

Hmm, lets evaluate this entire situation. Gage is an option (flexbone if I'm not mistaken) guy who won 2 state championships in 1993 and 1996 in Lewisville. He won those championships with a different type of kid than BH has. He is unwilling or unable to change his philosophy. You can NOT be one dimensional at the 4A level or above anymore and win with any consistency. The game has changed and you have to be able to run it and THROW it to win at a high level. Even if you don't throw it great, you have to be able to have the threat of a passing game to win. Now, fast forward to 2015, Southlake Carroll, Lake Travis and a whole host of similar demographic type of schools as BH have won and won big. How have they done it??? They have diffused the athletic advantage of their opponents by spreading them out and using the short, quick, controlled passing game as their running game. Don't tell me BH doesn't have the kids to compete.

they also have lots of former and current professional athletes that live in those areas. Look at the number of kids that have played or currently play for these 2 schools that have professional athlete bloodlines...Kenny Hill, Trey Newton, Clint Renfro, Riley Dodge...just to name a few from Southlake. Im not certain, but i dont think BH is full of professional athletes, former or current, that have kids

What professional athlete is going to move his family and kids to BH with the current set up and system?

BH probably won't compete on a consistent basis again until their enrollment gets up around 1700-1800 kids. Which is probably coming sooner than later. I would say on average right now they're probably between 4th-7th talent wise in the district. When you have solid coaches in your district that's hard to overcome. You can get around that sometime with sheer numbers though.

BH had solid players like Denny, O'Neal and Dolan. The only problem was they they were all on the same team. Thats the cyclical talent thing some people like to talk about on here. People too about BH running the spread? Can you imagine them trying to shoot it out with some of the teams in this dstrict?

As BH grows like the rest of the area I think their teams will also improve like many around them are doing.

I can agree with that.

I really tried to stay out of the coach talk about BH, but I just can't help myself....BH needs an energetic coach that will get his hands dirty with the kids, now wha g I mean by this is a coach who is there during athletics, actually coaches during practice, and can get the kids to want to play for him. I believe Price was forced out because someone in that administration building had a kid that wasn't played. But don't think that gage was their 1st choice then.......he got it after 3 others took numbers back and had their school match. That said.....still think a change needs to be made, just hope the next head coach gives those other coaches a chance cause there are some good ones there.......maybe getting soccer next year will help

All coaches have good ideas, it is the head coaches job to cull through those ideas and do what is best for the kids and teams. I agree that BH needs a coach that has energy and is a forward thinker. When you lock yourself into one way of thinking as a coach and are not able to show the kids that you are a person, then the kids don't play hard for you. Kids need to be inspired as well as coached. As a coach you have to give them a reason to go out and "run through a wall" for you. Today's players don't do that for just anyone.

I for one don't want us to go straight spread. I would like to see some type of hybrid between Spread and straight up run down your throat football. Heck, give me 60/40 pass to rush and I'm happy. LOL  It's all about imagination and what a coach can come up with to deal with what you got. If it takes putting your 4 to 5 best players playing both ways, then make them gladiators and do it. Do what you got to do to compete, notice, I didn't say win, but compete and keep the kids interested in your program.
