  1. Excuse my fellow Evadalians, some of them seem to have drank a little too much river water.
  2. I believe that Evadale has over 50 players in their football program. Those guys do a good job of getting the players out.
  3. yeah, there was a big crowd. Neat thing to do.
  4. Great Photos! The scrimmage was definitely worth watching. Good luck Rebs!
  5. AMEN! I don't know of one single coach that has ever said to "high-low" someone. Cutting is still legal.
  6. I think that there are always exceptions. But as a rule I truly believe that the football coach should be the AD because it is the biggest sport.
  7. The AD should be the Head Football Coach. My reason for this is: no other sport needs as many coaches assisting nor does any other sports program have as many players. 99% of all ADs are head football coaches as well. The system seems to work. Doesn't mean that its perfect. The term "athletic director" pretty much means administrator.
  8. In many ways the job will be easier. No mowing the field, washing clothes, driving buses, etc.. But there will be more pressure. He'll have more talent to sort through. However, baseball is baseball no matter what the size of the school.
  9. Fans may have a better view than the coaches on the field but most of the time they don't know what they are looking at anyways so the view doesn't matter. The view from the field allows an up front and close view of the action though and the coaches can tell a 3 tech from a 2 tech, etc.. Coaches can also talk to the players to get positioning,etc.. Fans need to enjoy the game and let the coaches coach.
  10. I'm gonna pick my boys in Evadale this year. But until Hull Daisetta is beaten then they are the reigning district champs. Will be tough no doubt. Evadale West Hardin Hull Daisetta Dark Horse- Burkeville
  11. You are partially right except the part about the loopholes. Many times people will jump the chain of command and take their gripes directly to a school board who then blindsides the admin/teacher/ or whomever. Many school boards are operating outside of the law in thinking that they are school administrators. I've seen first hand the extreme damage that a bad school board can inflict upon a district.
  12. Amen bro...I was begining to think I was the only one who could see this...I just don't understand some of these posters that don't believe this...To me it is very obvious...How many "hundreds" of dads know as much (or more) about baseball than some of these High School coaches??? I wouldn't want to take a $60,000 a year cut in my pay to coach High School ball.... There are hundreds of dads that THINK they know more than the high school coaches but it doesn't make it so. Dads need to sit in the bleachers and eat the popcorn. They could have coached if they had went to college, its not the coaches fault that the dads feel inferior. I have never felt "Inferior" when watching Bridge City play (maybe watching PNG), But like I said, I could not afford the cut in pay to be a High School coach..... The pay is good at the feed store?

  14. I will continue to disagree. My use of the word "meddling" is from the other post. It is the school board's business to know what is going on in the district and to step in with the rules that they are allowed to make. Go back and read my original post. I said that it was the superintendant and principals jobs to do the day to day running of the district. In my opinion that is correct. The school board doesn't step in and make day to day decisions, discipline teachers, set schedules, etc. They most definitely can "meddle" in the district's business however. That is what they are elected to do. Change the term if it makes it sound more politically correct. The school board controls the district. They are elected to set policy and make sure that the superintendent is doing his job. The board as a body controls the direction of the district through those two functions. However many school boards take it upon themselves to be a de facto superintendent themselves. Going further, many individual board members think that they are little dictators. A board member has no power whatsoever as an individual yet this doesn't stop them from pushing their weight around. Doing so is totally out of line. Still, I will say that school boards are the best option that exists today. The better of several evils I guess.
  15. Mustang you are wrong again. The board does all the hiring, the Sup makes recommendations to the board for hire. And the board sets policy. How do your replace a publicly elected set of officials that have to vote on taxes that run a school? It is impossible. So you want people appointed that set your tax rate and deem how to spend your money with no accountability to the taxpayers? Meddling in school business if the job of the school board. That is why they are the "School" board and not the "Grounds Maintenance" board. Not the day to day running of schools which is the superintendant and principals but how the money is spent and who is head coaches and athletic directors is. School boards are publicly elected. If you don't like the results, vote them out. Whether a school board or individual members are performing well should be made known at the ballot box. "Meddling" in school business is NOT the job of the school board. Their job is to set policy, hire and fire the superintendent, and tax rate. That is basically it. Their job is not to itemize how the money is spent. If the supt is staying within the school budget then the board should have no say as to whether or not a certain brand of vehicle was bought. And definitely the boards job is not to hire coaches. The supt hires all staff under him/her. NOT THE BOARD! I did say that the board sets policy. And yes they vote up or down on the supts recommendation. However, their job is not to interview candidates for athletic director, principal or even teachers. That is against the law. Other than setting policy, hiring the supt, and setting the tax rate there is not much a school board should be doing. That doesn't mean that they do that though. A lot of school boards overstep their bounds.
  16. in the real world this may be true, but not in southeast texas. i don't think in four years of high school i ever had a class taught by a coach where i learned much (and i had SEVERAL). There is absolutely NO WAY that he gets reassigned due to his performance in the classroom UNLESS they are looking for a reason to reassign him. I assure you that if he was in the good graces of the top brass, his classroom performance would be irrelevant. i know nothing of this situation besides what's been on here, so i'm not defending either side. This is just a general observation. You could not be more wrong in your assessment of coaches. Some of my very best TEACHERS were coaches. I had many coaches that taught MATH, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES, etc... And for the most part, they did an excellent job. Was your English teacher a coach? You can state what your individual teachers were like but don't go saying "in general" that coaches are not good teachers because that is an outright LIE!

  18. I don't know of any AD that is going to stick someone in a sport who is unknowledgeable about that sport. Schools advertise for head coaches in their respective sports. As for bringing a staff along with you, an AD should be able to bring who he chooses, within reason. Its sort of like when the county gets a new sheriff, he usually brings along a new chief deputy, etc...
  19. In almost every school football is the sport that attracts the most kids, therefore it makes sense for the AD to be the head football coach.
  20. Evadale's overall record is 13-2/5-0 in district. Evadale is not taking High Island lightly though. Until they are unseated, High Island is still the reigning district champs.
  21. You are right about that! 2 Homeruns this year and many other power hits.
  22. Elite teams dig deep when they are tested. This game proves that Buna can do that. So yes, I'd say they were the elite of this district.
