1. Barnes is stupid... Brown should have started the game... the season!!!  By now he would be the man.  Go through the ups and downs but keep the kids confidence!
2. 1-3 with the one win to a 15 seed in overtime!!!  And a loss to a 14 seed!
3.

Right but apparently they already know how to do those thing well so I guess the coach felt thats what they needed to do to exploit teams and win. You guys kill me. What do you play sports for? To win the game, HELLO!!! That is like last year when Dallas got mad that the Vikings didnt lay down after they were beating. I love Dallas, but that is part of the game!!!
Oh I agree they needed to play to win but the point on here has been when they had huge leads they should have eased off.  I saw them play in person and they were not a real good team in the half court.  That is where they needed work, so in these lopsided games they had the opportunity to work on that part of the game.  As far as comparing to the pros,  these are high school athletes they are not paid and are not the best of the best.  Pros are both it is their job to keep a team from embarrasing them.  High school athletes are there to compete and learn the game.  If they are beaten so be it  And they  may even be in a lopsided loss but embarrassing them should never be part of the equation.  A truly good high school coach coaches not only to win but to make his players better preparing them for playing in the future.
They don't need to work on a darn thing!!! They had a winning scheme and exploited it!!!  Three kids got D1 scholarships and two of them are not even college caliber players!  The style of play hid their deficienies! I think it worked just fine! Everybody hates a winner!
4. These two teams pushed them to talk about the rilvary! Texas best and worst case senario!!!!  The last line of each is so funny! Best Case: The malaise melts away, and the Longhorns rediscover the team that once was 17-0 and ranked No. 1 in the country. They are a cohesive working unit again -- big, athletic, blessed with shooters and bangers and drivers and defenders. Rick Barnes pushes all the right buttons. J'Covan Brown and Jordan Hamilton adhere to the offensive game plan. Damion James raises his game to lottery level. Avery Bradley makes big shots, and Dexter Pittman makes big blocks, standing tall against DeMarcus Cousins. There is even a Gary Johnson sighting. The Horns upset Kentucky and make it to the regional final before losing to West Virginia. Meanwhile, Texas A&M loses its opener to Utah State. Worst Case: Dead team walking has no chance of rediscovering its early-season excellence. Texas mails in one more disjointed performance, losing to fellow underachiever Wake Forest in the first round, as Hamilton and Brown combine to go 3-for-26 from the field. Barnes' one Final Four trip, now seven years old, looks more and more like a radar blip than a program indicator. Everyone goes pro, and Texas A&M makes the Final Four. Texas A&M best and worse case!!! Best Case: A sneaky good team that has flown under the radar in the Kansas-dominated Big 12 steps forward now. All nine of the Aggies' losses have come against NCAA tournament teams, but they won't lose another one until the Final Four. The Aggies get a breezy draw to the Sweet Sixteen, beating No. 12 and No. 13 seeds. Then, playing in nearby Houston, they give the Yell Leaders plenty to yell about by bouncing Duke and winning the rubber match with Baylor to reach the school's first Final Four. As an added bonus, Texas loses in the first round. Coach Mark Turgeon, rumored to be interested in Oregon, signs a new, long-term deal to stay in College Station. Just don't ask about football. Worst Case: A bad-luck draw against massively underseeded Utah State bites the Aggies harder than Reveille. Texas A&M misses key free throws late and gives up the winning 3 at the buzzer, scuttling hopes of playing in front of a partisan crowd in the home state. Texas makes a run. And Turgeon's interest in Oregon turns out to be legitimate when he flees for Eugene.
5. A&M has a really good shot in this bracket.  I think Baylor will win it but A&M could easily upset Duke.  Defend the three and punch them in the mouth and Duke will crumble... I am pulling foir you A&M!
6. I guess Lt. Dangle  finally understood the argument... Yeah those guards flat out sucked DOVE!!!  If Breckenridge had not been hurt... The game would have been closer.  He was a 6'4" pg that could have made some difference at lead guard on the press.
7. Well I must be the deleted post man!!! Some kids, parents want to play for a successful coach.. That is true, but it doesn't mean that they were recruited or that the coach had anything to do with that!!!! I guarentee you that most of these low to moderate income families aren't moving so their kids can play basketball...  It is not financially sound.  These families are moving for economic reasons, and it is THIER choice where to live.  Less talented kids in big cities do it all the time, but when a PTP'er does it, it is considered cheating.  Or when a successful program has a transfer, it is considered cheating!
8. As a pro, Bosh is an Allstar PF and  Perk is one of the better Centers in the league.  Perk doesn't get the shots bosh gets and his role is completely different.  But back to the State game which is what the argument is about.  Below is a quote used by the official site for Texas Basketball State championships! "The final matched two future NBA stars, 6’10” Sr Chris Bosh of Lincoln and 6’11” Kendrick Perkins of Ozen, in one of the greatest individual match-ups in the history of the state tournament.  However, Lincoln routed Ozen by 20 points utilizing a press and half-court trap that forced 27 Ozen turnovers which the Tigers turned into 39 points.  Statistically, Bosh and Perkins fought to a draw." Stat Line: Bosh with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 7 blocks, 2 steals and 2 assists Perkins with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks and 1 assist Perk had that kind of Stat line and his guards could not get the ball across half court.  27 Turnovers!  It is amazing to pull that Stat line when you can't even touch the ball.  Over half of Bosh's points came off fast breaks when the ball was turned over!!!
9.

That UIL all century team is nothing of the sort!! How could you put players like Jimmy Smith from Victoria High on any all ANYTHING, and NOT include the likes of BJ Tyler, Troy Hamm, Kendrick Perkins, Stephen Jackson, LaBradford Smith, among MANY, MANY others? It baffles me but since it was a fan poll, I am not surprised... Lazeek: A straw poll conducted by fans and such can in no way determine who was actually better between Perkins and Bosh...BOTH are enjoying really good NBA careers and BOTH have high school state titles, but only ONE of them has an NBA ring as well.... ;)....Its a great debate, but honestly its all about the side that you're on...Some would say Bosh for their own reasons and some would say Perkins for theirs...They are BOTH sucessful and BOTH should be on any all century UIL team...Period.
1st of all, if you saw their Austin tourney matchups you know Bosh dominated Perkins in all aspects. 2nd, by the numbers Bosh is having the better NBA career. Lastly, in case you don't know already....everybody gets a ring when the Garnett/Allen/Pierce show wins a title.
Look at the stat line from that game and you will see that Bosh did not dominate Perkins.  Dallas lincoln Dominated Ozen... Perkins/Bosh was a wash!
10. As of late not very much... This area has had talent and will have talent again... Thank you very much RP#!
11. Some of these names tend to make me believe that this poll was greatly influenced by post High School success!
12. ash... Its a Metroplex...  It is the City... Kids move all the time.  Iknow you samll town established guys don't understand that.  Alot of these kids parents live in apartments not houses.  They move for employment (or lack there of) reasons.  It is called City living.  It happens in all big cities.  You can't compare small town SETX living to the big Cities!
13. These kids know one way to play... If a team had good enough guards to put this team in the half court, Yates would lose.  Keeping them in the press allows them to mask that deficiency.  I am sure they could blow a twenty point lead as fast as they built one if they stop pressing.  I have said it over and over again that this is not the most talented team.  What I respect is Coach Wise putting together a scheme that allows this team with little true skill to be so dominant. When I was coaching summer league back in 2001 I played the Silsbee/Kountze/Jasper team.  They did it to me and I did nort feel that they were wrong...  They dominated with a three-quarter court press.  They backed off late in the 4th when they were up by 40. The next time I played them we were more competitive but in the end we still lost by 15.  Half of the issue was that the kids kind of feared that team.  They were never sure of themselves, eventhough the scheme I created had worked, we were down 5 to start the 4th.  But the stigma was too much.  I feel that Yates has done the same thing to its opponents.  Kids and Coaches come in with a certain kinf of fear and make more mistakes than they normally would.  coaches over analyze and the kids are super nervous.  To me its good coaching.
14. It was meant to be the other side... It is debating, two different stances... It is good to watch CNN and Fox if you want to get both sides of the story (analogy)!  Just wanted to be informative!
15. You ought to be able to read another opinion.  I wonder if my Caucasian brethren will bother to read Rolland Martin's rebuttal to Rick Reilly?  He did not defend Wise, he just responded to Reilly's one-sided article!  Rolland Martin is a CNN columnist, of African American decent and a Yate's HD alumni....... [Hidden Content].
16. Dove.. If it were Lumberton.. It would be lets go LTrain!  If it were Vidor it would be snak their ship Pirates! But God forbid its Jack Yates High School!
17.
Does anyone know how this Yates team did when this years seniors where Freshman and Sophs.  I am sure most of them had to have been on varsity.   How far in the playoffs did Yates go then?
When these kids were sophmores they beat Ozen in the regional semis and lost to Wheatly (team they should have beaten) in the regional finals.  Anthony Jones 6'10" starter at small forward for baylor was their big man.  Another kid started at point, but all these kids played.  Peters and Joseph started...
18.
Silsbee beating #1 Dallas Madison @ Half 30-29
Let's use the word leading not beating!
19.
i have no respect for what coach wise is doing at yates.  i don't care what color he is.  i don't care what color the players on his team are.  it's about class, dignity, and respect for your opponent.  he doesn't show any of it.  he shouldn't be judged simply because he's black.  in the same token, he shouldn't be defended simply because he's black.  there are people on both sides that make this a racial issue.  it shouldn't be.  either you agree with what he's doing, or you don't.  if the reason you disagree with him is because of his race, you're an idiot, and the same goes for those who agree with him or protect him simply because of his race.  if you can look within yourself and say that you would have no problem with your child playing for him, or BETTER YET, can say that you'd have no problem with your child taking one of his 100-point beatdowns, then support him.  If you're like me, and can't stomache the idea of pressing an opponent when you're up 100, or fouling to stop the clock so that you can score some more, than feel free to criticize what he's doing.  but if you're basing even part of your opinion on his race, no matter which side you choose, your opinion isn't worth the toilet paper you wiped it on.
That's fine Bullets... I believe in Gladiator sports (period)
20. Exactly... I tried to saty politcically correct on the race topic but its just funny that when they are upset with Yates its always about "them people"
21.
In my opinion Roc made the mistake of going after mostly JUCOs his first couple of years.  It paid off 2 years ago with that 13-3 conference record, and probably could have won the SLC tourney if it weren't for some injuries and bad luck.  Last year's team probably would have come close again to 20 wins and a good conference record if it weren't for all the injuries.  Nabors and Nwevo out all season, Dawkins playing with a broken foot or toe (I forget), plus other players had nagging injuries. This was going to be a rebuilding year anyway and we wouldn't be having all this talk about Roc if the previous 2 years had gone the way as planned.  But since Roc has shifted his focus from JUCOs to HS players this type of season was inevitable.  I think with Nabors, Nwevo and Hall coming back it gave us false expectations.  4 freshmen got a lot of playing time plus he red-shirted 2 others.  His best recruit (PG Nuno Muandumba from Arizona) had citizenship issues and couldn't play so I think Harris was a last minute replacement.  Next year 4 more freshmen are coming in, maybe 5 if Nuno Muandumba still comes.  I think Tubbs will give Roc another year to win with these young players. I think the only way Roc leaves is if (1) he leaves gracefully (by taking a high paying assistant job at Kentucky or someplace), (2) they negotiate down his buyout, and (3) Tubbs already has a replacement ready to step right in so LU doesn't lose any signees.
I respect that coach... You made really good points... D you really think Tubbs has a coach in waiting?  It so funny because everyone has inside knowledge and its all conflicting.  Only time will tell I guess.  Then we will just give kudos to the guy who had the right info!
