1989NDN reacted to Goslin in **COACHING CAROUSEL**
REL still holds their own, Finn’s 37-33 in his time there so far. Folks don’t seem to realize that.
GCCISD will end up consolidating the High Schools, but we’re still years away from it. First off, they have to get a Bond passed to rebuild RSS. After that, and after the rebuild, then they’ll pitch the consolidation as a cost-saving measure. It’s probably 5-10 years away.
Thats the only way it’ll ever get done. The Board telling voters that there’s no choice left but to consolidate due to budget woes. GCCISD is headed into year 3 of budget cuts for 25-26 and are already saying that 26-27 will be a 4th year of cuts with no relief on the horizon.
Until then there’s not much for the 3 football programs in Baytown to do but play the cards they’re dealt. REL does pretty well considering. With a former REL OC running the show at GCM maybe they’ll find a way to get 2-3 wins next season or maybe not but we’ll see. RSS has a good possible interim HFC in Coach Launius, hopefully they can find a way to at least tread water this season. After that, UIL redraws Districts again and 9-5A-1 might get a little easier for them.
One more thing. When folks talk about too many folks wanting to keep REL, I think they mistake why that is. I think folks assume things about other folks without walking a mile in their shoes. REL over the last few years has been the High School with the highest test scores and lowest number of fights. 6 of the Seniors on the football team made Academic All-State Honorable Mention this school year. None from RSS or GCM. Folks in Old Baytown, (and I actually live there so I know), don’t want to send our kids to RSS where the foundation of the building is crumbling or all the way out to GCM where it’s extremely overcrowded and a total mess as a result. REL is where we prefer to send our kids.

1989NDN got a reaction from Rez in PNG history question (Jackson Christian, most games played in school history?)
From the Ethridge run, 1975-1976-1977, a few players played in 44 games and they were 41-3 with a state championship in 1975, semi-finals loss in 1976, and state finals loss in 1977. In the 1970s, teams only played 15 games per year, not 16. The playoff path was five games, not six (only one team per district made the playoffs). I believe the kids who started all three years were OL Kern and OL Cooley. The others I'm not sure. I could be wrong. That was 47-49 years ago. Somebody else can follow-up and correct me. Also, the PNG website has a history section and you can probably look it up. RB James Shipley, OL Howard Kern, OL Jeff Cooley, LB Ted Brack, and WR Ronnie Delcambre. I may have missed someone. Too long ago.
From his sophmore season through the Texas High game, I believe Jackson Christian has played in 45 games and he has the hardware to match the guys from the 1970s...so he's the clubhouse leader and it would take another long run next year for JRs Aaron Wolford or Connor Bailey to catch him. It's late, I hate math, and I could be all wrong. Someone else can weigh-in. Go Indians!

1989NDN reacted to Austin1985 in Huntsville vs Dallas south oak cliff Saturday Nov 23 3pm waco isd stadium!!
Nah. Just y'alls turn in the barrel. WB did it for 2 years after being lumped in with The Woodlands et al. PA's D1 district did it for 2 years plus for the last 4 years, had a 'district of death' in the 1st round in either region. It wouldn't surprise me if the local 4A D2 district was moved to region 2. It would be stretch but I wouldn't be surprised
The Bubble schools could have opted up. With WB and United dropping, that would have been a nice 6-8 team local district in Reg 3 D1. Too much like right
What we east of the Trinity and south of, say US 190, have to understand is this is NOT an area of growth. The UIL wants 250 or so schools and y'all(coaches and AD's) wanted pre determined divisons for all of the lower classes. So, with the facts laid out, there are several 'dead' areas east of the Trinity. Several ISD's in no man lands so you will see more cooky alignments as long as the current paradigm is in place
It's the new reality as long as the growth here is slow/stagnant

1989NDN got a reaction from Big Daddy Cool in Galena Park (0) vs Port Arthur Memorial (70) - FINAL
I know it is a money issue for the UIL and there's no turning back the calendar, but games like this one illustrate why there should only be the top two teams from each district in the playoffs. Three and four teams from each district waters down the playoffs and creates games where the score is 70-0 with a running clock. I'm betting PAM played things pretty vanilla in the second half with twos, threes, and the JV kids rotating in and out. What did either team get out of that game? PAM prayed for no injuries. GP avoided PE and basketball season by one week and were still humiliated after an extra week of football practice.

+1,000 #88 has proven all year long, when given the opportunties, that he can catch and run with the ball after the catch. Early on in the season, the OC gave him some throws. And, then, the OC forgot about him for six or seven games. He is tall and mobile. Given him some throws. I'd spread him out and see if the LBs move out with him. Right now, teams are stacking eight and nine defenders in the box. Our OC does nothing to change the numbers game.

1989NDN got a reaction from outanup in Nederland @ Montgomery
Montgomery motions people around to get a numbers advantage on one side or the other. The QB lines up in the shotgun with a RB on each side and he either runs to the side with the advantage, or he runs a counter to the weak side. The QB keeps the ball more than he gives it to the RB. The QB is elusive and if he gets in the open field, he will take it to the endzone. Both RBs can run the ball, but they were not as elusive as the QB. Passing game is nothing special. PN-G's DB left WRs open and he could not get the ball to them consistently. Lots of roll outs and deep throws.

1989NDN got a reaction from bulldawg64 in Huntsville (44) @ Nederland (38) - FINAL
Nederland will beat Montgomery. I've only seen each team 1x (vs. PN-G). Nederland is better than Montgomery. Contain the Montgomery QB. Montgomery motions people around to get a numbers advantange on one side or the other, and then, they let the QB run outside where he has the numbers advantage. The flip side to that scheme is setting up the numbers on the strong side with the QB faking that run and countering back to the weak side...that counter to the weak side hurt PN-G all night. It won't take the Nederland staff long to figure out Montgomery. Contain the Montgomery QB and give the ball to Thomas. Nederland will win.

1989NDN got a reaction from 1motime in Montgomery Lake Creek @ Nederland
Nederland has a shot. Nederland is at home. Road wins are hard. Nederland, run the ball, run the ball, and run the ball some more. When you want to throw the ball, stop. Pause. Run the ball. Line up and play the best you can on defense. Maybe a turnover or two goes your way. Get a few stops, and run the ball. MLC QB Eli Morcos is the best QB you will see this season. He's good, very good. MLB RB Tyvann Byars is also good. You see a good RB in practice every day. Thomas can do everything Byars can do. You will be ready. MLC will make some plays. That's OK. Morcos and Byars are good players. Control what you can, compete, and did I say, RUN THE BALL. Nederland has a good shot to get the W.

Nice job by Huntsville getting past a tough loss in the PN-G game and focusing on Montgomery. Easier said than done. Huntsville has a physical defense. They tackle people. Not surprised the Hornets were able to contain a good Montgomery team.

Ned's RB should have a big game vs. WF. Huntsville ran on WF and Ned should be able to do the same with a better RB. Just give the ball to Thomas and get out of the way.

I keep Bregman and Kikuchi. Dezenzo is trash. I play Singleton at 1B. Verlander has seen better days. Injured starting pitchers returning. Keep Heyward.

1989NDN got a reaction from rupert3 in 2024 Astros
Astros fans...if you are Dana Brown, what do you do this offseason? Resign Bregman? Resign Verlander? Try to sign Kikuchi? Do a long term deal with Tucker and spend whatever money is left to patch holes at 3B, 1B and starting pitching? I think the Astros let Pressley walk. I'm not sure if they will seriously try to resign Verlander and Bregman. I haven't heard if Dana Brown has any interest in resigning Kikuchi. Bregman's agent want him to hit the open market and get a sense of what he will be worth at his age before he talks to the Astros. Bregman already said, no hometown discount. It's his last shot a multi-year big dollar contract so he wants his market value. I think Dana Brown may lean toward letting Bregman walk, promoting Dezenzo to play 3B or 1B, and using the Bregman money to resign Kyle Tucker long term. The Astros will fish the free agent waters for either a 3B or 1B player to play whichever spot Dezenzo doesn't play. What moves do think may happen? And, one more thing. I enjoyed the posts this season and especially during the stretch run.

1989NDN reacted to OlDawg in Montgomery Lake Creek at PNG
I think LC severely underestimates actually PLAYING against La Porte. LP’s offense hasn’t been the issue. TO’s have.
If PNG can control the edges better than they did against LP, they should be okay. PNG will be able to key on one very good RB against LC instead of worrying about 2 like against LP.
From what I’ve read, the LC RB had about 1450 yards last year. Very good year. LP’s had 1700+ and 1000+ respectively in fewer games.
Take care of the ball, and pound it up the middle.

1989NDN got a reaction from PN-G bamatex in La Porte (35) @ Port Neches-Groves (49) - FINAL
Tip of the cap to LP. Physical OL and a stable of talented RBs. PN-G will not be the only team to have lots of trouble getting those LP RBs on the ground. They are low to the ground, they wait for the LP OL to open a crease, and they get going north/south in a hurry. The Indians relied on an experienced and strong OL, a 1-2 punch with #15 and #27 carrying the ball, and good special teams play. Good time for a bye to get some rest, focus on tackling, and getting excited to play a really good Lake Creek team. GO INDIANS!

1989NDN got a reaction from rupert3 in 2024 Astros
The D-backs' Pavin Smith had the game of his life. 3-4 with 3-HRs, including a 3-run HR, grand slam, and solo shot for a total of 8-RBIs. Before the game, my son and I watched JV warm up throwing long toss in the outfield. He kept meeting with a trainer. I did not see him give facial expressions or body language that he was injured but something is off. In the first inning, his 4-seam fastball was between 94-97. In the third inning it was 88-90. When Smith came up to bat in the 5th inning, fans were yelling, hit him, throw it at him, back him off the plate. Others were yelling, walk him!!! He hit the solo HR. One of those games for the Astros. Day off tomorrow...welcome the Okland As on Tuesday night for one dollar dog night.

Well of course Abreu allowed the runs that were charged to Brown, but had Whitcomb made the play at 3rd, the inning would have been over.
