1. You must not have been at the same scrimmage i was at. Evadale did score the only TD in the live action on a long TD pass but in the controlled portion HD dominated both sides of the ball. Evadale finished with about 60 positive yards on 25+ plays. Good win for the Rebs over the Pirates tho for sure. After last week against Cushing I’m not sure what to think about HD. 6 turnovers in a half pretty much seals your fate but they were outplayed by a less talented team. Kountze will be a decent measuring stick for district. Good luck to y’all
2. Wasn’t really impressed with Evadale at the HD scrimmage. The Rebs aren’t on the level that they were the last few years with the solid teams they’ve fielded recently in my opinion. I say DV by 6. If I’m wrong then that’s a good thing for HD going into district play as well as playing Kountze next week because they manhandled the Rebels a few weeks ago. Should be a good game and good luck to both teams.
3. Prayers for a Shark player who’s being carted off and leaving by ambulance. Took a big hit on a punt return by Whiddon. ;(
4. My bad When are they gonna get off the gas pedal? Even a running clock the whole second half isn’t gonna be pretty.
5. Morgan Price blocks a punt and recovers it in the end zone for the score. Fraunberger with 2pt conversation 44-0 Bobcats 7:51 in 2nd
6. Sharks punt on 4th and 15. Another 3 and out. Hayden Whiddon with a 66 yard punt return for a TD. Bobcats - 28 Sharks - 0 late 1st qtr
7. BJ Peterson with a 45 yard TD run. I dont think HD has enough backups to keep this under control. SP has negative total yardage after three possessions Bobcats - 20 Sharks - 0 3:21 1st qtr
8. BJ scored 4 TDs. 3 rushing and a long run after the catch TD reception. He was a man among boys tonight. Terrick had one rushing TD and ran tough between the tackles all night. Both were lights out on defense too. HD is legit this year.
9. HD called off the dogs. Bobcats - 34 Oilers -0 Final
10. Haha right. WH is playing tough. It was scoreless until mid 2nd qtr. HD with 6 or 7 penalties early. Once they started getting out in space it’s been a track meet and the Oilers can’t keep up.
11. I guess at a private school you can have major improvements or dropoffs from one season to the next. Last year Kelly had Will Darling (I think that was his name) at QB and he was in his third year as a starter and was pretty highly touted going into last season. He's gone so I would think the passing game will take somewhat of a hit unless there is a stud to fill his shoes. When I saw Kelly last year in a scrimmage they just didn't have many athletes on the field, starters or backups, varsity or JV. Unless they got some new recruits, there is no way that they close a 40 point gap on West Sabine. A West Sabine team that was young last year and has 12 games of experience under their belt since last time the Tigers and Bulldogs met. They did lose an electric playmaker in Desmond Lacy, but the kid taking his place is a big time athlete as well. I think the days of Beaumont Kelly playing with and beating 3A and 4A teams is gone. Kelly folks may be amazed at the athletes that lil ole 1A Pineland puts on the field. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it, but I don't see Kelly keeping it within three TD's.
12. I'll be at Bobcat Stadium watching the 53rd meeting between the rival Hull-Daisetta Bobcats and Hardin Hornets!
13. Several of those jumped out at me as well. I figured the spread would be much tighter on Silsbee vs PNG as well as PAM vs Central. I think the favorites win both these games, but it should be much closer. GMC by 25 is a reach, more like -10. I think Crosby upsets Nederland, but a line of 12 makes sense. A couple more that caught my eye was Woodville vs. New Waverly (-19) and Anahauc vs. Hardin Jefferson (-14). I think both these games should be single digit lines and could almost be Pick 'Ems.
14. My brain is telling me that Nederland wins this game by 2 scores. My gut is telling me something different though. (It's either those Jack n Box tacos or my prediction) Nederland - 26 Crosby - 31
15. Garrison will be pretty darn salty this year. Don't see Hemphill making a big leap in improvement from last year. No Twine either. Garrison - 38 Hemphill - 12
16. Crosby Ozen Port Arthur Memorial Silsbee Coldspring West Orange Stark Center Newton Kountze East Chambers Hardin Jefferson Woodville Hull Daisetta Warren Burkeville
17.
Sub level doesn't always mean JV. ;)
Gotcha. I wasn't aware of any HD reschedules. I hate that if its true. I wouldn't think any teams on this year's schedule would be a total mismatch...unless we wouldn't be able to have a competitive 7th grade team against one of the 2As. I don't know but I do agree that we should stick to the schedule unless some big unforeseen event occurs.
18. Other than Kountze and Hardin, we have small school 2As and other 1A teams on the schedule. I don't know why HD would cancel any sub-varsity games this year. HD's JV scrimmaged Sabine Pass's varsity and competed well tying in the live portion and winning one of the controlled sessions. Not that Sabine Pass is anything special at all, it's still juniors and seniors playing against our freshmen and sophomores. I don't think HD's JV team looks great, but they will compete in 1A down the road. This will definitely be the most talented group HD will field for a while. That doesn't mean that Finney is leaving. He's a guy who's proven to be able to turn programs around so he's a hot commodity so he will get offers, especially if HD makes a run this post season. I mean come on guys, there's only 180 kids in the entire high school. Things can change in no time. One class with 6 or 7 athletes can mean be the difference in 2-8 and 8-2 in 1A.
19. Since 1995, HD and Hardin have played 11 times. HD leads the series since '95 7-4. Since 2001, Hardin has won 4 of the last 6 meetings. Prior to 2001, HD won 14 consecutive meetings dating back to 1984 and 25 of 26 games since 1973. So yes, prior to 2001 when Hardin has had some success, HD led the series 43-3 from 1948-2001. HD has only lost one game to Hardin when they were in the same district, going 25-1 against the Hornets. Hardin's only when in school history when both schools were in the same UIL classification was 2001. HD beat Deweyville, Warren, Port Arthur Austin and Anahauc, but fell to EC and Hardin. The Hornets finished with two district losses as well but made the playoffs in a three way tie for second. HD leads the overall series 45-7 and it will be 46-7 about 5 days from now.
