3.
The kids actually have a off season football program , weight program , etc.  they have not had these in quite some time.  They are motivated to work out, when they don't have to, in their down time.  Hardin needs community support.  Even from neighboring city's.  Foes on the field, support each other off of it.
I'm pulling for the Hornets to do well. I've seen what Coach Finney's offseason did for the kids at HD, so it's definitely possible. When you get someone in that sparks the interest of the kids and the community and everyone buys in, great things can happen. Good luck to the Hardin Hornets. (like I said earlier, except in the first game of the season :))
 4.
Hardin will when at least two non-district games and at least two district games next season.  They will be much improved in all areas.  Solid leadership makes a huge difference.  They have a coach that is inspiring these kids to believe in themselves.  All of the kids are much stronger and faster than last season and this will be evident in the games.
I'm all about being supportive and believing in the kids and your team. With that being said, I just don't see Hardin winning more than 2, maybe 3 games next year. Here's their schedule and how I see it: 1. Hull-Daisetta Bobcats (2012: HD - 23 Hardin - 6) My 2013 Prediction: Hull-Daisetta - 42 Hardin - 12 2. Tarkington Longhorns (2012: Tarkington - 20 Hardin - 19) My 2013 Prediction: Tarkington - 28 Hardin - 25 3. West Hardin Oilers (2012: Hardin - 40 West Hardin - 12) My 2013 Prediction: Hardin - 34 West Hardin - 16 4. Kountze Lions (2012: Kountze - 28 Hardin - 14) My 2013 Prediction: Kountze - 38 Hardin - 12 5. Anahauc Panthers (2012: Anahauc - 28 Hardin - 14) My 2013 Prediction: Anahauc - 35 Hardin - 24 6. Kirbyville Wildcats (2012: Kirbyville - 56 Hardin - 7) My 2013 Prediction: Kirbyville - 48 Hardin - 15 7. Woodville Eagles (2012: Woodville - 34 Hardin - 7) My 2013 Prediction: Woodville - 32 Hardin - 12 8. Warren Warriors (2012: Warren - 21 Hardin - 12) My 2013 Prediction: Hardin - 26 Warren - 20 9. Newton Eagles (2012: Newton - 63 Hardin - 7) My 2013 Prediction: Newton - 54 Hardin - 8 10. East Chambers Bucs (2012: EC- 54 Hardin - 0) My 2013 Prediction: East Chambers - 44 Hardin - 6 I see the Hornets going 2-8. The Warren and Tarkington games could go either way. So they could go between 1-9 and 3-7 in my opinion. In district play the Hornets averaged less than 9 points per game and gave up over 40, going 0-7. I don't see them improving that much in one off season. Kountze will be much improved and I think all the other teams besides Warren are just on another level. Even if they fall off some, I dont' see Hardin being able to close that big of a gap. We will see. I hope for the best (other than against HD) and wish them luck. Hell the season is six months away. This is just my .02 cents.
 5.

Tarkington started out 3-1 (lost to Bridge City 14-16 in third game) before starting district play and finishing 3-7. That's as many games as they won the previous 3 seasons combined. They've won 10 games total in the past 7 seasons under 3 head coaches.
So whats the problem over there.. My husband went to Tarkington. He said they always sucked.
I honestly have no idea why they have always been so bad. I know when HD played them back in the day they never had any speed. Speed kills and when you don't have it, it hurts... especially when you play in a district that has Coldspring, Cleveland, Liberty and other schools that always have great speed. The Longhorns have made the playoffs only once in school history and that was over 50 years ago. The little QB they have now is a good player and has the talent to be great. He'll be a junior this upcoming season and if he sticks around, he can help change things. He runs a 4.5 40 from what I've heard. Not sure if they have enough for a playoff push in the next season or two, but they are improving.
 6. Tarkington started out 3-1 (lost to Bridge City 14-16 in third game) before starting district play and finishing 3-7. That's as many games as they won the previous 3 seasons combined. They've won 10 games total in the past 7 seasons under 3 head coaches.
 7.
Dayton will be loaded with young talent. The freshman team was 10-0 and won by an average of 40 pts. The knew comer of the year in 19 4a was a sophmore from dayton. Dayton also started 6 sophmores on a team that won 9 games and their 2 losses were to top 10 teams. If dayton can do a better job of calling plays they will be able to score at will against anybody in their district. Between keener chambers McBride and shaq dayton will have 4 kids that can take it to the house from anywhere on the field.
You know I may have sold Dayton a little short on my post. They did have great kids on their freshman and JV team that will fill this year's roster. Even though they were 9-2, it just didnt' seem like the Dayton that everyone is used to the last few years. I do think they will lose to Summer Creek and Crosby this year and KP and BH will be tough. Who knows this early on, but good luck to the Broncos. I hope I'm WAY off on the record I predicted. It's been fun following the Bronc's on their recent playoff runs. I did figure a few more folks would chime in on this thread  ???
 8.

1. Hull-Daisetta Bobcats: HD returns 8 offensive and 10 defensive starters (9 of which were all-district selections) on a 7-4 team that was tied late in the 4th quarter with regional finalist Alto in their 2nd round playoff game. Led by District MVP Darrell Lavalais and District Defensive MVP Kentarious Lavalais, along with their top three WR's, top 4 leading rushers from 2012 and the aforementioned defense, the Bobcats will have a chance for a very deep playoff run. Prediction: 12-2
Wouldn't be surprised if we faced each other again next year in the Regional Finals as I see us winning district next year and being on the other side of the bracket.  Thought you guys returned 7 on offense though??  Lost 3 lineman and the big TE #99??  We return 9/8 on each side.
We did lose three linemen and big #99. Actually we lost more linemen that that, but we rotated and started different guys so much it's not real clear. We lost Abraham #72, Humphry #54, Wells #65, Gage #75, Metcalf #53 and #99 Stanley who was our TE (glorified unbalanced tackle). We do return Cook #73 @ gaurd, #63 McClusky @ center, and #71 K. Lavalais @ tackle who all started several games. Abraham and Stanley will be hard to replace. Those two kids, along with Cook are monsters. Kyle Hopkins can be a dominant tackle next season as a junior. He's about 6'4" 255lbs. (1st team all-district DE) My guess is that Cade Huckabay will move from WR to TE. I heard he's about 6'2"-6'3" 205lbs now, so he'll fill the spot nicely with Mosely and Welch manning the WR spots. I would not doubt it one bit if HD and Alto don't meet up in the regional final. With Whitaker and Sturns in the backfield, Alto can compete with anyone. Along with Mart, both the Jackets and Bobcats both bring back a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. Hopefully both teams stay healthy throughout the season. This past year's playoff game was a great battle and I'm sure next year would be the same.
 9. Prediction: 12-2 2. Cleveland Indians: The Tribe brings back a ton of talent off a playoff team from last season. A bunch of offensive firepower could surprise alot of folks this season. I think Cleveland beats out Huffman for 2nd place in the district this year. Unfortunately unlesss they beat Coldspring, they will most likely run into West Orange Stark in the playoffs once again. Prediction: 8-3 3. Dayton Broncos: The Broncos had a down year in 2012 considering their amount of recent success. A very tough district with Summer Creek, a loaded Crosby squad and a tough Barbers Hill and Kingwood Park team will have the Broncos fighting for a playoff spot. I think they get the fouth playoff spot but dont' make it out of the first round. Prediction: 6-5 4. Liberty Panthers: The Panthers are heading in the right direction with the recent hiring of Chad Taylor. Liberty loses some good talent from a disappointing 2012 season, but will still bring back some good athletes. A tough district with Coldspring, Cleveland and Huffman will have the Panthers on the outside looking in once again. A pre-district schedule that will prepare them for conference play will help, but they may be too beat up to contend for a playoff spot. Prediction: 3-7 5. Tarkington Longhorns: The 'Horns showed signs of life last year with some impressive wins early in the season. By the mid-way point of the season though it fell apart and they went back to the Longhorns of old. Led by junior to be do it all QB Hunter Johnson, the 'Horns will still have a fighting chance. A tough district will do them no favors though. Prediction: 3-7 6. Hardin Hornets: A tough season for new head coach Walter Fortune in 2012 helped build character for the returning Hornets in 2013. I don't think it will be enough to compete in many of their games. I do think they win a district game this season (Warren) but other than a possible win over West Hardin in pre-season, I don't expect much from the Hornets. Prediction: 2-8
 10. District 11-A 1.) Hull-Daisetta Bobcats: HD will be loaded in 2013 and will have a legitimate chance to make a deep playoff run. Key returning players include overall district MVP Darrell Lavalais who is the best linebacker and running back in the district. He will have plenty of help on offense as HD returns their 1st team all-district QB Austin Edmondson, along with thier top 4 rushers from 2012. The offensive line will be the biggest question mark, losing 3 solid starters. Dezman Cook, 1st team AD guard will anchor the line. HD will return it's top 3 recievers as well in Aaron Mosley, Cade Huckabay, and Dustin Welch. Defensively, HD may even be better than the offensive side of the ball. Not only do they return aforementioned Darrell Lavalais at LB, but also his brother Kentarious who was district Defensive MVP. The Bobcats will return 10 starters on defense, 9 of which were all-district selections on that side of the ball. Welch will handle the kicking duties as he was 1st team AD kicker, drilling a couple 40+ yard field goals. A full year of Coach Finney's offseason and a year to learn Coach Huck's offense may make the Bobcats a fearsome state contender in Region III. 2.) Iola Bulldogs: Junior to be Hayden Martinez will make the 'dogs go this year, just like last. Martinez was a 1st team all district selection at QB due to his phenomenal rushing abilities. John Kay will be missed in both the offensive and defensive Bulldog backfield. 2nd team all-district selection Will Mallet will provide experience on the Bulldog offensive line. Iola's defense should be improved and will return 3 all-district defensive selections, led by 1st teamer Sam Milsap. The Bulldogs should have an explosive offense once again, and should be better than last season. 3.) Colmesneil Bulldogs: Colmesneil will be led by their quarterback Matt Baily. A multi-year starter, Bailey is a tough kid with a great arm. Martinez of Iola is the best running QB in the district, and Bailey is easily the best throwing QB in the district. He will be missing his favorite weapon, speedster Bryce Rains who will graduate. Cody Walsh will handle the majority of the rushing duties. Walsh is a tough hard-nosed runner who doesnt' go down easily. He has an upright running style which makes him a target for big hits, but he delievers just as many as he takes. The bulldogs will also miss the physical play of fullback Doug Sanchez and linebacker Carl Parker, both of which are seniors. Chris Thedford will lead the defense as a 2nd team all district pick in 2012. He will be the only all-district returning starter from the Bulldog's defense. Colmesneil probably will not be as good as they were last year, but they could suprise some folks. If the offensive line can make some holes for Walsh and give Bailey time to throw the ball, the 'dogs will score some points. 4.) West Hardin Oilers: The Oilers lose their talented quarterback Calvin Ridge to graduation along with a host of other Oiler standouts including running back Justin Kelley. The Oilers will return WR/DB Payson Melancon who was all-district both ways, inlcuding 1st team on offense. He is a solid athlete who could fill Ridge's loss at the QB position. In a district returning QB's Matt Bailey, Hayden Martinez, and Austin Edmondson, West Hardin may be at the bottom of the barrel with their signal caller unless someone steps up and surprises everyone. The defense will be lead by senior to be Morgan Patterson who 1st team all-district. The Oiler D will be depleted by graduation as will the team as a whole. Senior to be Aaron Sneed and soph Jesse Basham were honorable mention all-district picks and they will need to play a big role in West Hardin's success. This could be a down year for the Oilers, but they always find a way to play tough, and anyone can win on any Friday night.
 11. I am perfectly able to distinguish the difference between 1950 and 2013. I'm not a one-sided fan who's not a realist. Yes, I am an HD alum and supporter, but I also know the reality of this situation. Liberty has been an winning team in 3A for the last few decades. Have they had any great teams? Not that I can remember. Did they have any teams that unfortunately ran into a state champ or finalist in the first round? Not that I can rember. All i'm saying is that HD's history and tradition is on another level compared to Liberty's. When it comes to wins, playoff appearances, and district championships.... the two schools may be pretty darn close. That doesn't mean that it's the same in the big picture. Have you ever been to a Liberty game in the last 20 years? Very little fan support and for the size of the school, the turnout to the game is terrible. Liberty is not a football town. They've had good teams and great athletes, but it's not the same. I know too many people that have went to both schools, and any of them will say that HD is a football town and Liberty isn't. Guys that I've talked to that played at Liberty and HD all said that Liberty may have had the better team and better players, but the atmosphere was not the same. They said that everyone in Hull-Daisetta cares about the football team and you play thinking you will win every game. They didnt' say that was the case in Liberty. Honestly, that's all HD has, and all they ever will have is a high school football team that's pretty decent every year. Liberty competes well in all sports, probably much better than HD across the board, but that fire is not there. I think a new coach could bring that fire to the kids in school and the players on the team, but nobody is going to turn Liberty into a prideful football town. The roots aren't there. Just my opinion. And as for HD vs. Liberty. I promise you 100% that over the last 20 years, several years that HD would have won that game. Look at the common opponents like Hardin, Anahauc, and other tweener schools that went back and forth between 2A and 3A and regularly played HD and Liberty. I'm not saying that there wasn't years that the Panthers would have drubbed the Bobcats 50-0, but I promise you there was some years that HD would have came out on top. As far as next year go's, Liberty does not want any of HD. It happens look like this will be a great year going in for HD and another down year for Liberty, but that has been the case in the recent past as well. You could bet that a Libety vs. HD game with 2 classification differences will be much more competitive than a Liberty vs. Dayton game with only one classification seperation.

Guess that was when Griffin played their. Has to be tough being sandwiched in between Hull-Daisetta and Dayton. Football towns.
Not sure what that has to do, with Liberty not having a successful football program. Liberty needs to hand the football reins to whomever gets the job. And maybe they can get somewhere...
My point is Liberty folks may be tired of not winning. Having to see Dayton and HD win for years. Liberty has really never been considered a big football town.
How? Libery has 24 playoff appearances, Dayton 27, HD 31. Liberty has been in the playoffs 15 times since 1990. HD has been in the playoffs 14 times since 1990. Dayton has been in the playoffs 16 times since 1990. I dont think Liberty has an inferiority complex with Dayton or HD. Especially HD who plays at a low level.
Low level. lol. Why are their players moving to HD? LOL! I hope your referring to HD being a 1A? Because HD would have beat 3A Liberty last year. Especially next year. Liberty's overall winning percentage is like 54 percent. HD's like 63 percent.
I believe that we have previously chronicled the pathetic nature of HD's wins and their scheduling in previous threads. Liberty has been in the playoffs more than HD in the last 22 year despite HD and their ridiculous scheduling. [glow=red,2,300]Liberty would STOMP A MUDHOLE in HD any time in any year.[/glow] They have not played bacause it does not make since for an above average 3A team to play 1A teams. I am aware of HD's long tradition of making the playoffs and getting beat in the 1st round as well as their State Championship 34 years ago but to say that Liberty is scared or fearful in anyway of the outcome of an HD encounter is outrageous.
Just want to chime in really quick on this. The statement about Liberty stomping HD anytime, any year is completely inaccurate. I would agree that more times than not, Liberty fields a better team head to head strictly based off enrollment numbers. I personally had a conversation with an Ex-Panther head coach and asked him why he never scheduled the Bobcats. He asked me "why would we schedule HD?" "We'd have everything to lose and nothing to gain!" Basically he went on to say that if Liberty beat HD's, big deal, they're supposed to be one or two classifications larger. But if they lose to 1A HD, then that looks bad. That hurts the team and their psyche and it could be irrepairable come district playoff time. I know for a fact that HD tried to schedule Liberty at least a half dozen times over the last 20 years and Liberty always declined. Not saying that Liberty was "scared", but they knew it would be a highly competitive game that they may not win. Just wanted to throw my .02 cents in on that one. And as far as history goes, Liberty does not have the same history that HD has. Never has, never will. Too many politics and outside distractions to deal with. Liberty has athletes no doubt, just never put it all together. Dayton, until the mid-90's was the punching bag of SETX. Now their program is top in the county. When HD and Liberty were the same classifications of schools, HD lead the overall series 15-4. When Liberty moved up classes and out of district, they reeled off six wins in a row to leave the all-time series at 15-10-2 HD.
 13.

We will all see in a few days. HD is going to shock some teams in district.  ;) :) HD may not win district, but they will be in the mix.
Didn't yall lose to our jv?
Yes HD did. The day after Kounte's JV beat 4A Lumberton..... Those kids can ball!!
 14. The big question is (and maybe someone knows the answer) is will the new 3A (current 2A) be divided into DI and DII like it currently is? The current 3A (new 4A) is not split for district alignment. They do the same as current 4A and 5A's and split DI/DII only at playoff time. If the new 3A did not split divisons for district alignment then we could see some really unfair district competiton. The numbers for 2012 was 200-449. That means that a team like Deweyville (201 enrollment) could be in the same district as Cameron Yoe (409) or Daingerfield (407) (just using these schools as examples). That would be pretty unfair....
 15. HD vs. Deweyville will be a great game next season. A full year of Coach Finney's offseason program and a year of learning Huckabay's offense will make HD very tough. That is taking into account that HD loses only 4 starters to graduation and will return the district MVP, district Defensive MVP, their starting and backup QB, top 3 WR's, top 6 rushers, 3 starting offensive linemen and 10 of 11 defensive starters.

If he grows a couple inches and can add some weight to his frame, the sky's the limit. McNeese is getting a player for sure.
 20. #21 Colin Janice is an animal!! If that kid was bigger, he'd be scary. Great defense 'Stangs and good luck!!
 21. I have no clue. I know Coach Finney got just about every kid in the school to play football so maybe they didn't want to play a game with only one day of practice since the playoff game last Friday.
 22. How good will HD be this year in bball? I have no clue. I know Edmondson and Welch were all district as freshmen and they are now juniors. Darrell Lavalais is probably the best athlete in the school but I don't even know if he plays basketball. Same with his brother Ken who is 6'2". We also have sophmore Kyle Hopkins that's about 6'4" and Aaron Mosely who's a rangy 6'4" player. Could HD's basketball team make a big statement this season?
