  1. Buna has been impressive in their wins over a young Burkville team and Tarkington. This is the best team HD has fielded in several years but this game will be close. Should be a true test for both teams to see where they are this season and will probably come down to which team makes the fewest turnovers/mistakes. HD by 3 in a lowscoring war.
  2. Kountze is a little tougher than anyone is giving them credit for and they've got some really good athletes. I'm gonna have to go with West Hardin by 7 in a dogfight.
  3. We wont' be needing any excuses when we come to WH. We'll bring our A-game and put an end to all the talk, because honestly that's all this is. We can say we beat so and so, and yall beat so and so, but until we play, it's just that...TALK. The Cats will be WAY more than the Oilers can handle this year and I promise you Groveton will have their hands full with this year's Bobcat team, although we are pulling for local team Colmesneil to make the playoffs (they'd go big school and you guys could deal with Groveton) As of 9-11-06 (new poll will be out tomorrow I believe) Hull-Daisetta is ranked #24 in the state in the Associated Press statewide rankings and are moving up weekly.
  4. Nice win over the Hornets this week West Hardin. I think you guys have a good team and of course it will be an all out war between WH and HD like it always is. The Bobcats will have a good measuring stick this week in Buna to see how real we really are. Westbury had a pile of good athletes and Kountze is improved over past seasons. The Oilers have Kountze this week and we'll see how you guys do against them, our first common oppenent of the season. HD beat the Lions 22-0, and we played a bad game. The Bobcats had 2 long TD's called back on penalties and had 4 turnovers and still pitched the shutout. I'm sorry but if you guys are looking for respect after squeaking by seller dwellers Warren and Hardin by 2 points each and getting blown out by Groveton, it's not gonna happen. Blow out Kountze like we did and we'll see. There's no way the Oilers have a chance against HD this year. Granted Simmons is a hard nose tough running back (a former Bobcat, so enough said) but he doesnt' compare the the athletes that Daisetta has on the field. Team speed will be the difference, just as it always is on Nov.3rd. Keep an eye on Kountze QB #20 this week. He's a loose cannon, but the kid can flat out run. On Nov. 3rd we'll be able to settle this war of words and unfortunately for you guys, like usual, Hull-Daisetta will come out on top. But hey, look at it this way 2nd place isnt' that bad. We'll go into the playoffs as the Div.I school anyway to play Groveton in the first round and we sure wouldnt' want to see you guys have to play them again!!! War Bobcats
  5. I could have sworn that Hull-Daisetta was on the orginal top 25. Then we were exiled to being listed in the classification list (only school in 1A) and now we're off the list all together? All we did was shut out a 2A school that was coming off a 47-0 win the week before and we dominated from start to finish. Guess it takes more than that to stay on the list???? Maybe 22-0 doesnt' work, we'll be shooting for 80 against Cathedral this week.
  6. Hull-Daisetta has those same brutal practices thanks to Coach Barbay's son running the show down here. Most of our kids play both ways and get better as the game goes on. Conditoning is a valuable asset in small school ball. We're trying to bring back that "we will not lose" attitude that the Bobcats used to have, something Newton, WO-S and a few other teams have year in year out.
  7. I know you guys will be ready, both teams show up big in this game. Congrats on the win over Warren
  8. Aaron Cook HB/LB - 5'8" 225lbs. last year's District Newcomer of year as freshman, has close to 200yards rushing, 2TD's and 20+ tackles in 2games this year Tre Dickerson TE/DE 6'1" 250lbs first team all-district DE as a freshman, runs a 4.8 40 and is legit D-1 prospect. Sam Elliott 5'10" 160lbs QB/S Has thrown for 4TD's and also has 2INT's in two games this year, starts both ways Scotty Gilmore 6' 230lbs DT/OL starts both ways Matthew Dees 6' 215lbs DT/OT starts both ways Matthew Haywood 5'10" 160lbs. DB/WB had a TD reception and an INT tonight, starts both ways Yancy McCaully 5'11" 250lbs OG, starts at strong guard Very young team with a pile of small school talent. Most talented overall team HD has fielded in several years and I believe most of these kids could start for 3A/4A teams.
  9. The Bobcat defense was swarming for the second week in a row shutting out the improved Kountze Lions. The game was a defensive struggle in the first half with the Bobcats holding a 6-0 lead at the intermission. The Lions had some good athletes at the skill positions and more size than Hull-Daisetta as well, but they just couldnt' get on track against an intense bobcat D. HD turned it on in the 3rd quarter to take a 22-0 lead and never looked back. Tyree Patterson lead the way again for the Bobcats routinely breaking 3 or 4 tackles per run on his way to 100+ yards and 2TD's. Sam Elliot threw a TD to tight end Matthew Haywood just before the break for the second consecutive week and and those two also both recorded interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. The Bobcats did look sloppy on offense in the first half with three fumbles and a variety of penalties. A blocked field goal was returned 75yards for a score in the 2nd quarter as well, but was called back due to an illegal block in the back. The defense was lead by Aaron Cook, Jace Fregia, Matt Dees, Scotty Gilmore, Pat Taylor and Patterson. The Bobcats travel to Beaumont next week to battle the Cathedral Warriors. That one may get nasty. Get ready West Hardin, the Bobcats are coming!!!!
  10. HD Bobcats 58 WB Wildcats 6 HD looked very impressive tonight at home in their opener. The kids from Westbury were alot bigger and taller and it didnt' look like a fair matchup when the two teams took the field. Turns out, that was a fair assessment, only opposite of the way it looked. The Bobcats used four running backs tonight, and they all ran good. Aaron Cook and Tyree Patterson will be studs this season. Sam Elliot started at QB and ran the offense great, along with throwing a couple touchdowns to Pat Taylor and Tre Smith. Adrian Anderson, last year's starting QB will be back next week, and will drop into the RB rotation as well, keeping Elliot as the starting QB. Westbury had several quality kids, but never could put it together. Their QB was about 6'2" 210lbs and broke a 70yard run for their only points of the night. They also had a 6'7" OL/DL as well as several other big tall players. They are known as a basketball school and you could tell that tonight. As far as quality athletes, this maybe the best team HD has fielded in several years and their best in the 1A ranks. Numbers may be a concern with only 17 kids suiting out tonight, but a few more will return in the near future including Anderson. Keep an eye on the Bobcats this year, and the game in West Hardin should be a great one.
  11. Yeah he was special. All-State football and basketball as a junior, then had a horrible knee injury early in his senior year and never recovered totally.
  12. yeah, this year's WH team does have good talent. Zach Simmons is one tough cookie I'll say. Him and his brother Thomas used to be my next door neighbors here in Daisetta. They played backyard ball with me and all my buddies when they were little guys and they were tough then. HD does have what we've always got on the Oilers though, SPEED. And that's something you just cant' teach. Good luck to you guys too, i'm sure it will be a great game, just like it always is. See you guys there Nov. 3rd.
  13. I know they arent' in the Golden Triangle area, but I have to give some recognition to the Rodney Thomas led Groveton Indians of '89 and '90. Hull-Daisetta had the unfortunate honor of meeting them in the playoffs, and I'm telling you this team was unreal. We had handsdown our best team since the state chamipionship team in '79 and they beat us to the tune of 55-13. Back to back 16-0 state championship seasons and a record of 7-0 against 3A/4A schools. I know they were a tiny 2A team, but they were unstoppable. I think they had 5 or 6 players go D-I off that team, including Rodney Thomas All-American RB at A&M and Houston Oiler/Titan RB. I'm not saying they would have beat any or all the teams on this poll (especially the WOS team of '87 which got my vote), but I guarentee they would have gave them a great game.
  14. I'm sure you guys remember the Dayton vs. PNG playoff game (in '98 I believe) played at Lamar Cardinal Stadium. I'd never been to a PNG game before that, and let me tell you, i'm a believer, those fans are awesome. It was less than standing room only with both sides packed with purple and white. Dayton QB Dakari Pearson single handidly carried Dayton in that game. In the first half PNG junior QB Dustin Long was hitting one of the twin recievers (cant' remember those kids' names, but they were good)over and over, and Dayton couldnt' stop him. In the second half Dayton coaching staff put Pearson in at defensive back and he locked down on that WR. I think he had 6 catches and 2 TD's in the first half, and didnt' come close to catching a ball in the second half. Pearson finished with around 200 yards rushing, threw a couple TD's, had an interception, returned a punt for a TD, and locked down on a very good wideout. He was the sole difference in that game, and outshined a very good QB in Dustin Long. He rode that performance straight to UT and a starting safety position for the horns. GREAT PLAYER!!
  15. WHfan, I hope opening weekend of deer season is gonna be enough, because the Oilers wont' pull it off against HD this year. Bobcats are gonna tear the oilers apart, it's tradition They do have a chance though with Zach Simmons in the backfield (an HD kid who transfered to West Hardin). Cant' wait to Nov. 3rd
  16. Here's my list: Best I remember watching as a kid: David Mitchell Hull-Daisetta Best I ever played against: Royton Williams Anahauc Best I've watched as an adult: Matt Schoebel Columbus Honorable Mention: Brian Gamble Alto, Reggie McNeal Lufkin, Dustin Long PNG
