  1. Since Kountze is the only common oppenent that Hull-Daisetta and West Hardin have both played, can we get some feedback on what you guys think of the two teams? We're only a month away to HD/WH and we need some more material to jaw back and forth about......
  2. Like everyone else is saying this should be a 3 team fight for the third playoff spot. Here's how I see it... 1. Hull-Daisetta 2. West Hardin 3. Evadale 4. High Island 5. Sabine Pass Would it upset any of the Oiler nation if I picked Evadale to beat West Hardin??? .......it could happen. Evadale is playing really tough ball, High Island is making the most of what they have and Sabine Pass is just outmanned in this district. We'll see how it plays out.
  3. Yeah, that and the fact they still have to play HD Nov.3rd
  4. West Hardin has tremendous heart. Everytime we play the Oilers those guys will never give up even when they are outmatched. I don't know how many times we'd killed common oppenents that they'd lost to going into our game and it should be a massacre and those kids would make it close the whole game. One thing I'll give WH is that they never give up. (at least not against Hull-Daisetta).
  5. This should be a decent game in my opinion. I was really impressed with the way Buna came in and smashmouthed us all night in HD. Buna's skills players werent' tremendously talented but they do have some decent speed. WR/FS #9 is a darn good athlete and RB#7 does have some good speed. Anahauc will probably have more team speed and quality athletes at RB/WR/QB ect. but Buna's bread and butter is their line. Hull-Daisetta domiantated the line of scrimage against our previous oppenents until the Coogs came to town and they put us in check. If Anahauc fans remember Hull-Daisetta has played EC and Anahauc tough over the last decade with some wins along the way and this is one of our better teams in recent memory and Buna had their way with the Cats. Good luck to the Panthers, since I've got several friends down on the bayou and would like to see you guys pull this one out. My Pick: Buna - 34 Anahauc - 16
  6. Buna vs. Deweyville should be a battle. Buna really impressed me last week... 1. East Chambers 2. Buna 3. Deweville 4. Anahauc 5. Warren 6. Hardin 7. Kountze Like someone said earlier, everyone in this district has questions except EC. Buna flat manhandled HD last week and if they play at that level the rest of the season could win the district. Deweyville looks like a powerhouse, but have not really played much of a schedule. Anahauc always fields great athletes and can beat anyone on any given friday night. Hardin and Warren have lost a bunch of close games and could easily turn around and start picking up wins in district. Kountze is much improved and could upset a couple teams in district play. Cant' wait to see how this district plays out.
  7. Good job on the 3A sweep. We got a taste of playing a school twice our size tonight, and didnt' come out in good shape. HD will be pulling for you guys as well, met too many great folks from Winnie over the years not to. I know a few Bucs will be pulling for the Bobcats this season as well.
  8. Alto (1A) - 42 Hemphill (2A) - 0 Alto handled the Hornets in this one and called off the dogs late. Good night this yellowjacket team is something else. Not really lookin forward to a playoff matchup against these boys. Alto, now 4-0, has pitched three shutouts and for the season have outscored their oppenents 200-7. They can play with most quality 3A teams in my opinion. Great job YellowJackets.
  9. Buna put us in our places. We didn't play the greatest game we've ever played, but no excuses. The Coogs took it to us. Their O/D lines dominated the line of scrimage and we never really got anything going. Buna is a pretty darn good team. I saw you guys handled Kountze, just as we did Good job on the win over the Lions and now we're both sittin at 3-1 on the season.
  10. Buna - 34 HD - 0 Woa, didnt' see this one coming, or didnt' see it being this lopsided of a score. Buna's offensive and defensive line was the difference. They dominated the line of scrimage all night long. HD played without one of their top offensive/defensive lineman tonight, but it really wouldnt' have mattered. Skills positions, I felt like both teams were pretty even as far as QB/RB's/WR's, but the lines were the difference. This was a good 'ole smashmouth butt kickin put on the Bobcats by the Cougars. Buna took the opening drive 68yards down for a score. The ensuing drive for the Bobcats resulted in an interception deep in their own territory that the Cougars were able to capitalize on, making it 14-0 and Buna never looked back. I dont' know the actual time of possesion but it must have favored Buna at least 3-1. HD came out flat and was never able to get their athletes in space to make plays. The nasty slot/wing offense overpowered HD all night and it seemed like every other running play resulted in a back being untouched for the first 10 yards. I didnt' like the fact that HD actually took starters out in the 2nd half to avoid injuries late in the game, and Buna never took out thier starters and were passing the ball when the game was well out of reach. They also had at least 4 or 5 personal foul/unsportmanlike conduct penalites called on them as well, including taunting and late hit penalties and acted like they'd never won a game big before. Overall good job by the Buna Cougars tonight as the Bobcats were out hustled, out coached and flat out played.
  11. I know exactly what you're talking about in losing a player. Coach Randy Copeland kicked the star QB/DB from the previous year off the team because he felt he was better utilized as a WR and the kid refused to accept it. This kid was getting away with whatever he wanted since his freshman year (where he was first team all-district CB), but Copeland was new in town and would not tolerate a cancer in the locker room. The team rallied together after the bad attitude was gone and went a couple rounds deep in the playoffs. Kountze does have some quality kids this year and will play out an interesting season. I go way back with coach Hodges. Stan was one of my coaches in hs at HD. He's one intense guy who demands respect and if you dont' play hard and give 100%, he doesnt' need you. Good luck to the Lions this year, I'm pulling for them for two reasons. One for Coach Hodges to get another victory and two, of course, to beat West Hardin.
  12. As you can tell by all the chatter on the message board, Hull-Daisetta and West Hardin is a pretty big rival game. I call it our own little PNG/Nederland game. I wish somebody actually had the overall history of the matchup to find out how far it goes back. I've talked to several old timers around town and found out the scoop of when the rivalry began. Back in the 20's and 30's Batson and Daisetta were two of the wildest outlaw towns around during the oil boom. Saloons, shootings, and outright chaos was common in both places. What I was told is that the roughnecks in Batson were jealous of the success of the oil fields in Daisetta early on. The fields where then booming in Batson and Saratoga and hit a slow spot in Hull/Daisetta. This caused tension between the two towns because jobs were given to people who lived in the closet proximity to work. If it was booming in one town and slow in another, that's how the economic impact was played out. After time it just grew from hatred and jealousy in real life and ended up on the playing fields between the two schools. I've heard this from a bunch of folks so I believe it. I dont' know how far back the football rivalry goes, but I know when you're a little kid at Hull-Daisetta, you know one thing very early on: losing to West Hardin is not acceptable....lol. This year's game looks to add another great one to the record books!!
  13. The Enterprise only had total stats on two of our three (no total stats on the Westbury game, but they didnt' do much, HD won 58-6) In the two games they had totals for: Hull-Daisetta ---- 98 yards per game allowed
  14. 25 of the last 31 games played overall, not the last 25 straight.....
  15. Good luck carrying on your tradision. We call it tradition here in Bobcat land and we plan on sticking to it. Cat's have won 25 of the last 31 games against the Oilers and we will continue to make it a lopsided rivalry. You guys better get your minds on Kountze or they will sneak up and beat you guys. We've got Buna this week and we know this will be our toughest test during the regular season. P.S. With your screen name, I'm pretty sure you must have bought a ton of those "We beat Hull-Daisetta" T-shirts back in the 90's when yall beat us that one year.
  16. I remember back in high school I asked my dad who was "the baddest" dude you ever played against. He said "Glen Gaspard" from East Chambers. I said East Chambers.... :? , come on pops that's a basketball school (this was just before EC starting regularly handing HD our butts from the mid 90's on). He said that guy was a machine, played FB and MLB. He said one year Gaspard had 30 tackles against Hull-Daisetta. Well my dad was a 1st Team All-State LB himself (never lived up to my old man, I only made 2nd team all-state not 1st), so I got to wondering who this Gaspard character was, so I did some research. All he did was go on to be one of the greatest defensive players to ever wear the burnt orange at the University of Texas. He was a three time all SWC linebacker and I'm pretty sure went on to be selected in the NFL draft, but not sure after that. This guy was a stud. All I know is that Glen Gaspard would definitely be on this list!!!
  17. Here's a few more guys from local small school teams that I wouldn't mind on my fantasy team. Guys I played against back in the day.... Heath Garsee LB/FB Buna Levi Moore RB Deweyville Reggie White RB Liberty Brian Gamble LB/QB Alto T.J. White WR/QB/ATH East Chambers
  18. yeah he really was Coop. The bad thing is baseball was probably his best sport and HD didnt' have a baseball team
  19. Dont' know if these guys compare to any of the Jasper/WOS guys ect. but they were the best we've had down in Daisetta. WR-Juan Gomez 6'1" 175lbs. 4.5 40yd dash. 1st team all-state and had 49 catches for 1,480 yards and 21TD's.....in 9 games. He was double and trippled teamed every play after the first or second game of the season and it didnt' matter. I remember seeing him catch 4TD's against P.A. Austin in the first half with 3 or 4 guys guarding him every play. He was one tough cookie and by the way led HD with 140 tackles at middle linebacker. Played at Ranger JC and was supposed to go to Nebraska, but never did. RB- Joe Allen Slack 6'1" 185lbs. 4.4 40yd dash. Was all everything at Hull-Daisetta in the early 90's making all-state RB two years, all-state basketball 3 times and went to the state track meet in the 100/200 meter dash. Didnt' go play college ball anywhere which is sad because he could have played D.I almost anywhere at 6'3" 225lbs. (size he grew to shortly after HS) He now coaches at Hardin High School.

  21. Houston Lamar at Port Arthur Memorial Vidor at Livingston Cleveland at Lumberton Newton at Silsbee Bridge City at Kelly East Chambers at Hardin-Jefferson Liberty at Kirbyville Woodville at Shepherd Anahuac at Splendora Warren at Groveton Burkeville at Deweyville Buna at Hull-Daisetta Kountze at West Hardin High Island at Abundant Life Cathedral at Hardin Sabine Pass at Chester Cypress Community Christian at Evadale Looks like Hull-Dasietta and Buna will be one everyone is looking forward to. So far in the pick 'em 30 people have cast their votes and as of now it's HD-18 Buna-12. Should be a good game. P.S. Make it Hull-Daisetta 19 after my vote
  22. It will be a war this year like none in recent years past. I like to knock the Oil-cans, because realistically, that's what we do in HD and I'm sure the same goes for takin shots at the Bobcats for WH fans. I think both teams have really stout squads this year and should finish the regular season with good looking records. I have been watching HD football for the past 16 years, (longer than that, but actually knowing who the guys are and what makes a good team) played on varsity all four years in high school (93-96 seasons) and I can honestly say, it's been a long long time since a team has impressed me this much in the black and red. We'll see how things go, but i'm expecting very big things this year and the next couple years as well (we've got 6 sophs. that start both ways). Good luck to you guys too and as usual it will be a hard fought battle. I honestly feel like you guys can handle Kountze this week as well, and for sure if they lost some of their kids. See you guys Nov. 3rd
  23. Well lets look at that statement WHFAN. WH pulls off 2 point victories against lowly Hardin and Warren and now you guys are kings of 1A??? Last time I checked the Hornets and Warriors are seller dwellers year in and year out. How does that claim respect? Kountze is a bad 2A football team, and yall arent' giving us any props for beating err.. dominating them in shutout fashion, not just a sqeaked out 2 point win. Last time I checked those teams had one win between them and we are Kountze' only defeat, so why are we talking about HD playing bad competition? The only decent team you guys played all year was Groveton, and let me think....umm, yeah that's right you guys got blown out by 40+. I'm tired of all these WH folks thinkin they are the bomb all of the sudden. You guys are and all ways will be HD's doormat to wipe our feet on when it comes to the football field. What's the matchup record in the past 30 years, something like HD 24 wins WH 6. I'm gonna laugh so hard if Kountze thumps you guys friday night. Sounds like they lost some good atheletes this week but I still think they can win one for Lion pride. I'm telling you guys right now this is the best group of athletes; size, speed, agility, quickness and toughness that Daisetta has fielded in the past 10 years. If you guys really think that you can beat HD's best with a "decent" Oiler team, you are sadly mistaken. I will say right now, HD blows out west hardin Nov.3rd in Batson. No excuses, and I dont' wanna hear .....we lost 4 starters to grades and ....Simmons had a bad ankle or any of that crap. No excuses, just come take your a$$ whoopin like you always do from the Bobcats. I just don't think you'll see us get T-shirts made when "We Beat West Hardin". I remember that in '96 I believe when WH beat HD for the first time in like 11 years. Oilers finish like 5-5, no playoffs, but get t-shirts made for the community saying "We Beat Hull-Dasietta". For fans from other towns, I appologize if I have upset anyone with any comments, but this is HD vs. WH, and this is how it is every year. Our own little civil war that happens one night every 12 months. The rivalry between Hull-Daisetta and West Hardin runs deep and always has. They Oilers play us tough no matter what every year and vice versa. I just wanted to send out a message to all WH fans out there that are not respecting this Bobcat team. Maybe we're undefeated when we play you guys, maybe we dont' win another game until then, but I promise you it will not be pretty when we roll out of town. War Bobcats
