  1. I like where you have the Lady Rebels. Coach Robert Hollyfield has plenty of talent coming back from a playoff team last year. They did not have any seniors on the team.

It may take sometime to get started as the volleyball team hopefully will be playing for some time. I do have a question, why don't you do it at least like the football rankings 3A-5A and 1A-2A with the privates included in the small schools. Just a suggestion.

  2. I would like to put the Evadale Linebacker tandem of senior Terrance Willis and Sophomore Chris Harvey up for the defensive players of the week.

Willis had 8 tackles most of them solo on Tyler Copeland the West Hardin quarterback who was contained all night. Harvey had 11 tackles with about half of those being on Copeland and the others on the WH running backs.

These two are the leaders of a defense that has shut down WH to less than 100 yards of total offense and Hull-Daisetta to about the same amount to capture the district crown in 23A.

All the Rebel defenders have performed terrifically all season from the shut down corners of Justin Royal and Garrett Landis, the sweep stopping outside linebackers Shelby Stanley and Billy Nichols to the interior linemen Jon Jones, Tyler Tucker andGarth Baumann. But for this week I believe it should go to Willis and Harvey as the Tyler Copeland show got cancelled all night long.

  3. BigMo is right 55

I don't see either team putting 35 on the other. Both defenses held the Rebels to 16 so that makes it even on the defensive side. HD did score on the Rebels all be it that they had a 1st and goal after a great punt return. So I would have to give HD a slight offensive advantage.

BigMo is also correct in that WH had better find something else to do other than do Copeland left, Copeland right and Copeland up the middle. I know the HD coaching staff is watching the film from the Evadale/WH game as the Rebels figured it out, stopping Copeland that is. It is true however that it you stop him you do stop the Oilers, since that is all they tried until the 4th quarter and then it was who let the dogs out from the Rebel "D".

I think you might want to bring a cushion for the seat as I see this one going overtime, but I think the Bobcats will pull it out

    Bobcats  21

Oilers    20 - but at least one overtime

    Just my opinion!

  4. Well thank you Rebel Fan and BigMo for being so nice about WH! We appreciate it.

I on the other hand am not.  I first would like to say that I love WH and they will always be my team!

Okay WH... we knew from the very beginning what Evadale was going to do... thier only stradegy was to get Tyler down...

they did that... and we did nothing to change it! Why?

Defense was horrible... these boys need to learn how to hit and quit this arm grabbing im gonna sling you down non sense!

The ball went to number 8 and number 21 most of the time for the rebels HELLO>>> GET SOMEONE ON THEM!

C'mon WH coaches... do your homework! I love you Westfall but you can't show off Tyler when it could cost you the game and it has been all season. You have a great TEAM out there if you would just give them a chance. Tyler is a great athlete don't get me wrong... Im not blaming him or taking anything away from him at all! I just don't understand why if you knew what the Rebels were going to do why didnt' you have a back up plan?

Why did you keep trying to throw deep? Tyler was being ran over by half the other team before he could even think about passing the ball that far!

and when you had somethig working for ya (tossing or handing off to Dorion or Jones) why did you start passing agian?

I love you Oilers but no one can take the blame for tonights lost... there were many faults.

Not looking to make anyone mad! Just getting my voice heard!

    Oiler Fan 101

All I know is that a group of motivated players (we call them a team) from Evadale had heard all the talk about containing Mr. Copeland if they were to have a chance to win the game. All I can say is "Mission Accomplished!"

  5. To let everyone know we did locate video and we will make it available to the local stations hopefully next week. I too believe it is about the kids and I can assure you that the young man from Evadale has yet to have his feet touch the floor, I can only imagine the same for the young man from Anahuac.

Guys come on this is a game. I love it, you love it and there are some guys making a fortune playing it for their living, but it is still a game. And at this level where there are no playoff implications, college scholarships or professional contracts riding in the balance, could we just be excited about a couple of guys getting a great thrill in their life!

  6. October 31 will be fondly remembered by all Evadale Rebel fans as the night of Champions.

First the Lady Rebel volleyball team completed its regular season as the #1 seed from District 23A. While tied for the district championship with West Hardin and Goodrich on the 31st they defeated Goodrich to claim the top spot and with a 22 and 4 record with only one loss to a 1A school among those four losses it it looking good for a deep Lady Rebel run into the playoffs. The Lady Rebels will have a warm up game on Monday or Tuesday and then start their playoff run late in the week, probably on Friday night.

The Rebel football team silenced all doubts about the preseason rankings they received as the #1 team in District 23A. The Rebels are 5 and 0 and the only undefeated team in the district after defeating the West Hardin Oilers 16 to 0. Once again the Rebel defense was a beast as the Oilers were held to under 100 yards of total offense with Tyler Copeland accounting for just a few yards over 50 for his total yardage on the night. It was a total team effort on both sides of the ball. The Oiler rushing offense was held to -31 on the night. And the Oilers did not get a first down until the second quarter and then they only got one. The Oilers only had 84 yards passing and one int. The Rebels continue to be a grind it out ball control offense that racked up over 300 yards of total offense with 295 of that on the ground. Justin Crain continues to gain large chunks of yardage week in and week out. He had 163 yards on 20 carries and a touchsown against the Oilers. Junior Shelby Stanley had 82 yards on 14 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. The Rebels continue to gets points even when the offence does get stopped as Josh Swift kicked another field goal last night which brings him to five out of six on the season.

So in years to come I believe that everyone will remember October 31, 2008 as the night when the Lady Rebels and the Rebels got all the treats and they gave nothing but the tricks to everyone else.

  7. Great Job Lady Rebels!

Taking care of business is the order of the day and you did. Three straight games and it's on to the playoffs as a #1 seed. You have played through lots of things this season and everyone in Evadale wishes you continued success as you move into the second season. Keep you goals set high and you can go far.

  8. I am not a person who believes in luck. A sign above the locker room door in the field house at my high school read...

Luck occurs when preparation meats opportunity!

Well you have prepared an entire season and the playoffs for you start today so there is the opportunity. You get a chance to show that the first game in district was a fluke and that you as a team should have been the outright district champs, but you can eliminate all doubt in who the top ream in district 23A is by taking care of business against Goodrich this afternoon in Spurger.

Happy Hunting Lady Rebels go get what is there for the taking!

  9. Last night the Evadale JV played the Anahuac Freshman Team.

This was the second time these two teams have played this year. It was a hard fought contest with plenty of hitting. The Rebels won 30 to 6, but for a moment in time a couple of special athletes shined brighter than the game.

Each team has a player who is "special", I know all of the guys are special to someone, but I think you understand what my description means. I won't mention their names, but if you know Evadale and Anahuac, you know the two boys I am talking about.

The coaches met before the game and arranged a couple of special events. With just over a minute left and the outcome having been decided. The Rebels lined up and ran a play with full announcing and the pursuit of the Panthers the Rebel scored from about 50 yards out. The Rebels and even a few Panthers were in the end zone to congratulate their teammate. Then it was the young man from Anahuac who got the chance. The Panthers snapped the ball at about their 40 and around the right side the special running back started. With a convoy of teammates and the PA announcer doing an impression of ESPN's Chris Berman say "He could go all the way!!!!!" The young man took it over for the touchdown.

It was a glorious moment for both boys and their teammates. After the teams huddled with their respective coaches out on the field and people began to filter out. The Panthers finished their huddle and the young man from Anahuac made a dash towards the Rebels sidelines and told everyone still in the stands, "See you next time!"

The sayings about 2nd place is first loser and that winning is everything can take a back seat on occasion as we teach a different lesson that it is always OK to do the right thing. There will be hundreds of touchdowns scored this weekend. Those will be scored by some terrific athletes as well as some average one, but you would be hard pressed to find two more "special" touchdowns this or any week.

Thanks to the coaches from Evadale and Anahuac for a shining moment in time that will truly leave a mark on a couple of boys, a couple of families and a couple of communities.

  10. It was a three way tie with Goodrich, West Hardin and Evadale all at 6-1 in the district.

Goodrich beat Evadale, West Hardin beat Goodrich and Evadale beat West Hardin.

Goodrich and West Hardin play Thursday with Evadale to meet the winner.

The Goodrich/West Hardin loser will be the #3 seed from the district, The winner will play Evadale with that winner being the #1 seed.

  11. It is of course early in the season and I am a huge Spurs fan. I caught the last bit of the Spurs/Suns game last night on ESPN. All I can say to Shaq is that if you thought you were going to come in and do damage to the Pop and Spurs for last years Hack-A-Shaq in the playoffs you are sadly mistaken.

Yes you won the game, but lets see who wins the war. The Spurs did not look bad in the loss and everyone needs to remember that Manu is still out with due to his injury. Do you think he would have been worth at least 10 points on any given night and changed the outcome of the game....I do!

  12. I went to www.buckinfootball.com this morning and found the Evadale Rebels at #12 in the Region III standings.

In looking into this site more they take into consideration the strength of schedule when placing teams on their list. Wins are important, but it takes who the losses were to into the equation.

Tomorrow night when the Rebels and the Oilers get it on it will be a test for both teams as the Oilers are #16 on the same list. Whichever team wins will likely benefit from playing a team up in the rankings.

Great game to both teams, but of course I will be pulling for the Rebs!

  13. Leroy

I do not know where you get your information about who is who on this, but I can assure you that BigMo's playing days are long gone, he might wish he could be on the field again, but he never will. The other thing is the fact that players have been told to stay off this site and I also know that at least a couple of the coaches monitor the site to insure that no one gets on.

I do not really know what your problem is with the Rebels or players on this years squad, but do us all a favor and drop the attitude from your threads or the reb from your name, PLEASE.

Sorry about Leroy to everyone else!

  14. Ten days ago Evadale junior, Bud Tanton was severely injured in a four wheller accident near Silsbee. Bud has been in the hospital in Houston since he was lifeflighted there that same day.

I would like to report that Bud is improving and that things look good albeit what looks to be a long recovery.

He had surgery yesterday, that they had been putting off due to a fever he developed. The surgery went well in fact he could be moved from ICU to a regular room by the first of the week. He could also be released to come back to the hospital in Beaumont from Houston towards the end of next week.

He could be in the hospital (regular and rehab) for up to six months. He is out of the halo and is now in a neck brace another good sign.

The Rebel football teams are all sporting a #64 on the back of their helmets as a tribute to their teammate. Bud played center for the JV team and had been impressive in the early games.

Please continue to pray for Bud and his family, I am sure that this has been a huge drain on the family in so many ways. Thank you SETX Sports community for all your thoughts and prayers.

  15. I don't think anyone will pick SP over HD. The Sharks got shell shocked last week and that is after the emotional return to the field the week before at Colmesneil.

The team and the coaching staff have done a great job to get to this point and I would love to see them win one post Ike, I just don't see it this week against HD and the last game is against Evadale, so I don't see it there either.

Who do they play next week?

    HD 35

    SP  14
